Northview’s Anna Kunkel Signs With D-1 UAB Golf

Northview High School senior Anna Kunkel signed Monday afternoon to continue her golf career at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
The UAB Blazers are a NCAA Division 1 school.

Escambia Man Pleads Guilty To Narcotic And Firearms Charges
December 2, 2025
An Escambia county man has pleaded guilty to federal narcotic and firearms charges.
Jujuan Andre George, 33, pleaded guilty in federal court to two counts of distribution of controlled substances, one count of possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute, one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense, and one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.
Prosecutors said that in May of 2025, George sold cocaine and fentanyl during an undercover operation. In June 2025, law enforcement executed a search warrant at a suite in a Pensacola strip mall that the het was known to distribute drugs out of. Law enforcement located approximately 285 grams of fentanyl as well as methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, six firearms, ammunition, and other items indicative of drug distribution. George is a multi-time convicted felon.
George faces up to life imprisonment.
NHS Chiefs Drop Two To Bayshore Christian Academy (With Gallery)

The Northview Chiefs dropped two basketball games to Bayshore Christian of Fairhope Academy Monday in Bratt.
Bayshore’s JV defeated NHS 35-25, and the varsity defeated Northview 55-27.

Larry Morris
December 2, 2025
Larry Morris, age 81, of McDavid, FL, passed away on November 30, 2025, in Atmore, AL.
Larry was born on August 8, 1944, to Leslie Morris and Dorothy Hassebrock Morris in Santa Rosa County, FL. Larry was a farmer most of his life and enjoyed fishing, turkey, and deer hunting. Larry is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Linda Faye Morris Ard, and his nephews, Troy B. Ard.
Larry is survived by a host of family, and friends.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Bogia, FL with Bro. Don Sanks officiating. Interment will follow in Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Reggis Odom, Steve Reed, Willie Peebles, Wes Chancery, Lucky Hallford, and Doug Davis.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth Wayne Rodgers
December 2, 2025
Kenneth Wayne Rodgers, age 62, passed away on November 25, 2025, at his home in Atmore, AL. Kenny was born on November 29, 1962, in Butler, AL, a son of Herman and the late Donnie Lane Rodgers. Kenny served in the Army National Guard. During his years of employment, Kenny worked as a funeral director, truck driver, and an ordained minister.
In addition to his mother, Kenny was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Francis (Smith) Rodgers, and one unborn child.
Kenny is survived by his father, Herman Rodgers; two sons, Jonathan (Danielle) Rodgers and Joshua Rodgers; four grandchildren: Ryver (Mia), Blakeleigh, Jaxon, and Hayden; his brother, Richard (Sandy) Rodgers; many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, along with a host of family and friends.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Tim Tew officiating.
Inurnment will follow at a later date at Antioch East Baptist Church Cemetery in Greenville, AL.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made to help with funeral expenses.
Wildy Alvoid Boutwell
December 2, 2025
Mr. Wildy Alvoid Boutwell, who was 88 years old, sadly passed away on Monday, December 1, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his beloved family. He was originally from Flomaton, Alabama, and had spent many years living in Atmore, Alabama. His life was filled with love and memories shared with those closest to him. He loved his job and never missed a day of work unless someone else was having surgery or a family funeral.
He was a man who cherished his grandchildren and found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved to spend his days hunting and fishing, relishing the time spent outdoors. Each morning, he would feed his cow with a smile, enjoying her gentle company. In the evenings, he’d settle down to watch his favorite westerns, a twinkle in his eye as he got lost in the stories. He often said, “Ya’ll be particular on that road,” reminding everyone to tread carefully and appreciate the journey, just like he did.
Mr. Boutwell is preceded in death by his parents, Jefferson Davis and Ora Jane Lynch Boutwell; two sisters, Beatrice Emmons and Hazel Walston; brothers, J L Boutwell, Herman Boutwell, Floyd Boutwell, Jimmy Boutwell, Buddy Boutwell and Chester Boutwell.
He is survived by his son, Charles (Becky) Ward of Atmore, Alabama; daughters, Wanda (Ray) Lewis of Cantonment, Florida, Lucinda “Cindy” (Bubba) Tedder of Atmore, Alabama; brother, Aaron Coy (Diane) Boutwell of Flomaton, Alabama; sisters, Marie (Buddy) McMillian of Brewton, Alabama and Melba (Junior) Lambeth of Atmore, Alabama; eight grandchildren, Jessica Sawyer, Lisa (Jeremy) McGhee, Richey (Cassie) Tedder, Sissy (Alex) Rolin, Jacob Tedder, Adrienne (Braxton) Tedder, Chrissy (T.J.) Allen, and Joshua Lewis; thirteen great-grandchildren, Camden, Lagan, Emily, Izzy, Londyn, Ryder, Kayleigh, Mathieu, Kamryn, Sean, Russell, Delaney, and Trinity; one great-great grandchild, Baileigh.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Petty Funeral Homes, with Sister Cathy Stophel and Reverend Ricky Tedder officiating.
Burial will follow at Traveler’s Rest Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2025, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Petty Funeral Homes.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy McGhee, Richey Tedder, Alex Rolin, Jacob Tedder, Joshua Lewis, and Lagan Rolin.
Escambia County Grants Final Approval For New Molino Subdivision On Highway 97
December 1, 2025
On November 19, the Escambia County Development Review Committee gave final approval to Bluewater Creek Estates, a new residential subdivision in Molino.
The gated community will have 33 single family residential lots located on 185 acres in the 1400 block of Highway 97 just north of Sunshine Hill Road. Lots for single family homes range in size from 4-12 acres.
The development will be served by Molino Utilities for potable water and private septic systems for wastewater because sewer is not available.

There are now nearly three dozen Escambia County schools recognized as a Purple Star School of Distinction.
“Earning the Purple Star School of Distinction status reflects the hard work and dedication of our administrators, staff, and students,” said Monica Willis, military liaison for the Escambia County Public Schools. “This recognition from the Florida Department of Education highlights our ongoing commitment to supporting military families across the district.”
The purpose of the Purple Star School of Distinction Designation is to recognize schools that support the unique needs of military families, help military-connected students navigate critical challenges and provide resources for military-connected students when transitioning to a new school environment. The program was established by the Florida Legislature (House Bill 429) and signed into law in June 2021.

- Staff professional development to identify and respond to the needs of military families.
- Five (5) percent open enrollment seats for military students and families.
- Three additional activities to support military families such as participating in a service project to connect the school with the military community, hosting an annual military recognition event, or offering a JROTC program, among others.
Smokey Bear, Florida Forest Service Visits Jim Allen First Graders

Smokey Bear and the Florida Forest Service recently visited with first grade students at Jim Allen Elementary School.
With a special story, they learned all about fire safety and the importance of asking trusted adults for help. They also had a chance to meet Smokey and share high-fives.

Tate High Swim Team Make School History At State
December 1, 2025
The Tate High School swim team made school history recently at the FHSAA 3A State Swim Meet in Ocla.
Lauren Armstrong, Audrey Turner, Jordana Wright, Kiley Menser and alternate Izzy Eden became the first Girls 400 Freestyle Relay team in Tate history to make it to the state swim meet.
