Are you up for a photo challenge? The Molino Photography Club has a September photo challenge, and you can participae.
Their September calendar has a different photo challenge for each day of the month. Simply take one photo each day as instructed on the calendar using your phone, DSLR or any camera. If you want, you can share your photoss with the club at their next meeting.

The Molino Photography Club will meet on Monday, September 22 at 2 p.m. at the library. Whether you are taking photos with your phone or a professional camera, the group is open to everyone regardless of skill level. Bring your camera or smartphone and join fellow photography enthusiasts.

Northview Homecoming Parade Is September 19

The Northview High School Homecoming Parade will take place Friday, October 4.
The parade will line up at noon and roll at 12:30 p.m. from Northview High School. It will travel east on Highway 4 before turning on Bratt Road by the Travis Nelson Park, around the park to Ashcraft Road to Highway 99, travel north past Bratt Elementary School, turn back onto Highway 4 and end at Northview. (Note that Ashcraft Road has a very narrow shoulder with no place to park.)
The parade officially begins when it reaches Bratt Elementary School.
Some guidelines for this year’s parade include:
- No cheer stunts while riding on floats.
- We will follow the same route as the immediate prior years.
- Do not throw candy till you get to Highway 4.
- Parking for parents and participants is located behind the NHS baseball field.
- Group leaders and parents make sure to watch all children you bring to pep rally in the gym.
- All floats should be decorated before you get to Northview, only touch ups should happen on campus.
- We will be lining up and parking floats in the field next to Northview Bus loop.
- There is NO parking in the bus loop
- All floats need to depart campus before buses get to the school or will have to wait till after dismissal at 3:20 p.m.
- Chaperones are responsible for students until parents pick them up.
- Parents can pick up their younger participants from behind the baseball field
- Bring water for your group
- Bring your own candy and throws.

County Says EMS Improvements Paid Off In Large Scale Response To Walnut Hill Crash Last Saturday

Escambia County says improvements in EMS staffing and the addition of new ambulances allowed for a large-scale response to afive vehicle crash last Saturday, August 23, in Walnut Hill.
The crash shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Highway 97 south of Ernest Ward Middle School led to multiple people needing immediate medical care, according to the county. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that eight victims were transported, with two of those going to the hospital by helicopter.
Escambia County said Friday that the emergency response demonstrated the significant strides Escambia County EMS has made in improving on-scene care for critically injured patients.
“Responding to a large-scale incident with multiple patients presents complex challenges, from coordinating resources and triaging patients to delivering rapid, life-saving interventions in a high-pressure environment,” Escambia County EMS Chief Chris Watts said Friday. “I was incredibly proud of how our EMS crews performed under pressure — delivering advanced clinical care, working seamlessly with fire rescue, air medical, emergency communications and law enforcement partners, and ensuring that every patient received timely treatment and transport.”
Volunteers from the Walnut Hill Fire Station were on scene moments after the first 911 calls and took command of the scene.

Escambia County said EMS improvements allowed then to dispatch nine EMS units to the scene without impacting emergency calls in other areas of the county or requiring assistance from other ambulance services.
Three medical helicopters — two from AirCare and one from LifeFlight — also responded. The Walnut Hill, McDavid and Molino stations of Escambia County Fire Rescue and the Atmore Fire Department responded, along with numerous FHPl troopers, several Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputies and a Florida Fish And Wildlife Conservation Commission officer.
In addition to fire and EMS, Escambia County also noted the significant role played in the event by Emergency Communications.
Watts added that the EMS improvements have left the department better prepared for mass casualty-type events, in addition to day-to-day operations
“While we never hope for these types of emergencies, this response demonstrated exactly why we’ve invested in expanding our EMS fleet, increasing staff levels, and enhancing training. These resources directly impact our ability to respond effectively, improve outcomes, and maintain the trust our community places in us every day. Escambia County EMS stands ready 24/7, because when lives are on the line, we are prepared to meet the call,” Watts said.

Northview Chiefs Fall 26-14 To Opp (With Gallery)

The Northview Chiefs dropped their season home opener 26-14 to the Opp Bobcats Friday night in Bratt.
It wasn’t the win first-year Northview head coach Doug Vickery wanted, but it was the improvement he wanted to see over last week’s 37-2 loss to Destin.
“In that debacle, we tried to play a game but we had so many mistakes,” he said. “I told them we are going to be a 100% team; we will love one another no matter what happens. They are taking ownership as they make a mistake. They are owning it.”
This Friday, against the 4A Opp Bobcats, Vickery said his team performed a lot better, often coming within inches of big plays like interceptions versus a team he said is one of the best they will face this season.
Chiefs senior Nate Duff scored both of Northview’s touchdowns Friday night.

It’s the team that improves the most between week one and week two that wins,” Vickery told the players in the post-game huddle.
“I think we’ve got to work on our play action pass game, and that takes time,” Vickery said about next week. “You can see the difference from week one to week two, but we don’t seem as crisp.”
The Northview Chiefs (0-2) will host Freeport (2-0) on Friday, September 5. Freeport is coming off a 34-14 win over Jay on Friday night.

Powerball Jackpot Hits $1 Billion. And Yes, Officials Say There Have Been Previous Florida Winners

Saturday night’s Powerball jackpot has surged to $1 billion, the sixth largest in the game’s history, and state lottery officials want you to know that yes, Florida players do win.
Since joining the game in 2009, Florida has had more Powerball winners than any other state, continuing a legacy of major wins, lottery officials said Friday.
The last Powerball jackpot claimed in Florida was $214.9 million on May 6, 2024, and the state also shared in the world-record $1.586 billion jackpot in January 2016 alongside California and Tennessee. Florida has continued to see significant wins, including multiple second-tier million-dollar prizes during this current roll.
The record-setting run has driven unparalleled sales, with Floridians purchasing more than 7,000 Powerball tickets every minute leading up to the historic drawing.
Since its inception in 1988, the Florida Lottery has contributed more than $49 billion to education. A significant portion of these funds goes to the Bright Futures Scholarship Program, which has helped more than 1 million students pursue higher education.
Powerball alone has generated more than $3.16 billion for education in Florida since its inception, playing a critical role in supporting students and schools across the state. If the jackpot is claimed tomorrow night, the Florida Lottery will have generated approximately $42.70 million for the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund from this drawing alone.
“Every Powerball ticket purchased in Florida offers the chance to win big, but more importantly, it helps fund the educational dreams of students across our state,” said Florida Lottery Secretary John F. Tate Aggies Beat Gulf Breeze 48-13

The Tate High School Aggies beat the visiting Gulf Breeze Dolphins 48-13 Friday night in Pete Gindl Stadium.
The Dolphins took an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter. The Aggies then evened the score at 7-7 with a Miles Delarosa handoff to Tanner Clark.
After a big 60-yard touchdown run from Clark, the Aggies took a 14-7 lead. The Aggies expanded their advantage to 21-7 with a pass from sophomore QB Delarosa to Laquarius Bradford. With about a minute to go in the half, Clark was in for his third TD of the game to take a 28-7 lead at the half.
The Aggies (2-0) will be back in action Thursday night in their third game at home as they host the Pensacola High Tigers (0-2). PHS is coming off a 41-6 loss Friday night at the hands of the Milton Panthers.

Final Day For Free Dog And Cat Adoptions From Escambia County Animal Welfare

Today is the final day the Escambia County Department of Animal Welfare will offer free adoptions for all dogs and cats one year or older
A $15 licensing fee will be applied to all adoptions for Escambia County residents. To see a full list of adoptable pets in Escambia County, visit 24petconnect.com.
The adoption fee for pets younger than one year old will be $50 for puppies and $25 for kittens.
The Escambia County Animal Welfare and Adoption Center is located at 200 W. Fairfield Drive. Hours of operation are from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday.

Man, 22, Killed In Single Vehicle Crash In Beulah
August 30, 2025
A Thursday night single-vehicle crash in Beulah claimed the life of a 22-year-old Pensacola man.
At about 10:48 p.m., the man was traveling south on Beulah Road just south of Helms Road when his Honda Prelude ran off the road and struck several trees, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The man was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Sacred Heart Hospital where he passed away.
