Tate High Aggies tennis defeated Escambia High Monday.
Tate Aggies Boys Tennis extended their district record to 5-1 with their 7-0 victory over Escambia. Aggies Girls tennis improveD to 3-2 in the district as they also swept Escambia 7-0.

Mrs. Tammy Ann Martin, age 56, passed away on Friday, March 19, 2021 in Pensacola, Florida.
Mrs. Martin was born in Atmore, AL, former resident of Louisiana, Bristol, England and had resided in Pensacola, FL for the past 21 years. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed music, reading, writing poetry and her grandchildren. She was a retired Legal Secretary, a retired Kindergarten Teacher and was a member of the Pine Forrest United Methodist Church and Liberty Inter Demonational Church.
She is survived by her parents, Alton & Muriel Killam of Bratt, FL; husband of 21 years, Timothy Scott Martin of Pensacola, FL; two sons, David Eugene (Jessica) Hawkins of Pensacola, FL and Nikolaus Salter of Pensacola, FL; one daughter, Kara (James) Sunday of Pensacola, FL; one brother, Tony Alton Killam of Bratt, FL; five grandchildren, Christian, Landon, Lexie, Brody and Brantley and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Matt Brown officiating.
Burial will follow at the Godwin Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 25, 2021 from 1:00 PM until service time at 2:00 PM at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home
Eight New COVID-19 Cases Added In Escambia County

On Monday, the Florida Department of Health reported eight new COVID-19 cases and no additional deaths in Escambia County.
It should be noted that an unusually low number of test results were returned Monday for Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.

Mary Louise Owen Jernigan

On March 22, 2021 at 6:00 am, God decided to call one of his special children home at the age of 78, Mary Louise Owen Jernigan. Mary was born to Robert P Owen and Cora E Sapp on November 18, 1942 and lived most of her life in Pensacola, Florida.
Mary was a graduate of Pensacola High School, Class of 1960. She decided to go back to college later in her life and graduated the University of West Florida in 1981 with a double major in Accounting and a minor in Computers. She retired from Civil Service where she served as a System Analyst in Accounting. She was an avid Red Hatter with her friend Nancy Shubrook, as well worked at the Ronald McDonald House volunteering to cook meals and sweets once a week. She was very involved in the PTAs of McArthur Elementary and Pine Meadow Elementary, where she worked tirelessly trying to help the students and teachers have memorable experiences. She loved to be involved with the field trips, carnivals, crafts, and other events for these schools. Mary decided to be involved with her grandchildren every opportunity she could. This also included the annual Orange Beach Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras parade which was a family favorite.
Mary was a twice lung cancer survivor and struggled with COPD. She would not let any disease get her down and was not known to complain at all. Even with the breathing difficulties, she would travel to many different places to see new and exciting things.
Mary was survived by her only daughter, Minette Louise Nodhturft and her son-in-love, William (Bill) Nodhturft, her two grandchildren, William (Billy) Paul Nodhturft III and Madison Louise Nodhturft, her sister, Vonda Phetteplace and her brother-in-law, James (Jimmy) Phetteplace, Sr., her two nephews, James Phetteplace, Jr and his wife, Dottie, and Eddy Phetteplace and his wife, Michelle, and one great nephew, Corey Phetteplace. She also leaves behind three precious lifetime friends, Jana Peaden Labrato, Ileane Sexton and Jonnie Mae Williams who shared many exciting adventures, travels and memories. And finally, she leaves her two daily fur companions, Duke and Penny who brought her great joy and were by her side tirelessly to the very end.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10AM on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at Faith Chapel North, 1000 Highway 29, Cantonment, Florida.
Susan Lovelace Murphy

Mrs. Susan Lovelace Murphy, age 78 of Excel, AL passed away on Monday, March 22, 2021 at her residence. She lived most of her life in Escambia and Monroe Counties. Mrs. Murphy was a native of Pensacola, FL where she was born to the late Samuel L. Lovelace, Sr. and Ruby Cottle Lovelace. The bridge entering into NAS Pensacola was named in her father’s memory. Mrs. Murphy was a 1960 graduate of Pensacola High School. She was a 1964 graduate of Auburn University and earned her AA and a Master Degrees from Troy University. Mrs. Murphy retired after 32 years of teaching and was a member of Excel Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents Samuel L. Lovelace, Sr. and Ruby Cottle Lovelace and husband Cecil M. Murphy, Jr.
Mrs. Murphy is survived by two sons Mark (Cindy) Murphy of Excel, AL and Mike (Jimmie Lynn) Murphy of Bay Minette, AL; brother Samuel (Pat) Lovelace, Jr. of Johns Creek, GA; sister-in-law Charlotte Murphy of Pensacola, FL; grandsons Matthew Murphy, Morgan Murphy, Logan Murphy and Wesley Parker; granddaughters Mallorie Murphy and Micah Murphy; great grandchildren Matison Murphy, Maddox Murphy, Marshall Cullen Murphy, Myles Murphy and Joanna Cobb; five nieces and one nephew.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at 1PM at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore with the Rev. Terry Harden officiating. Johnson Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements. Special thanks to Hospice of Monroe County Hospital and Care Givers of Loving Hands Personal Care. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Pilots For Christ of Monroeville..
Silver Alert Canceled: Missing 69-Year Old Man Found Safe

On Monday, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office canceled a Silver Alert for a missing 69-year old man after he was located safe.

Robert William Scanlon was last seen on March 20th wearing multi-colored pajama pants, a navy blue sweatshirt, and a red and black toboggan hat. He was driving a 2020 white Kia Sorrento with Florida tag number PTEE92. He could possibly be driving to Franklin, Tennessee.
Scanlon is 5-feet, 8-inches tall, 150 pounds and has hazel eyes.

Man Arrested In Connection With Multiple Catalytic Converter Thefts

A man wanted in connection with several catalytic converter thefts has been arrested.
Brett Andrew Bass, 33, was charged with criminal mischief, burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, possession with burglary tools with intent to use and grand theft. He was booked into the Santa Rosa County Jail Monday morning without bond.
The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office said called Bass a “big piece of the puzzle” is solving “extensive” catalytic converter thefts.
His arrest came the day after a story about his arrest warrants was published on NorthEscambia.com.
Dozens Of Shots Fired Between Bikers, Man At Nine Mile Road Gas Station (With Photo Gallery)

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting incident at a Nine Mile Road gas station Sunday afternoon.
Multiple shots were fired between a group of bikers and a man about 4 p.m., according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect was described only a black male wearing a plaid shirt that was driving a new model white Honda Civic with custom black rims.
No one was reported to be injured in the incident, but several motorcycles were hit by the gunfire.

The ECSO said the gunfire erupted after some sort of altercation between the man the group of bikers.
Dozens of shell casings were scattered across the parking lot of the Circle K on Nine Mile Road at I-10. Evidence markers numbered into the 40s marked shell casings and other evidence across about 175 feet of the parking lot. Most of the markers were next to shell casings, while others marked two $1 bills and a credit card.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (850) 436-9620.

Kingsfield Elementary Teachers Get Pied In The Face For Relay For Life (With Photo Gallery)

Kingsfield Elementary School students recently had a chance to pie their teachers in the face.
It was all part of an annual fundraiser for Relay for Life, and they collected $1,101.37, twice as much as last year.
“We took nominations for teachers who wanted to be pied. Throughout the week students brought in money to add to the jars for the teacher they wanted pied,” said Kenli Rowe, a fundraising project coordinator and proud recipient of a pie plate full of whipped cream.
“We had daily totals and at the end of the event the top 5 teachers would be pied. But. in reality, most of the teachers who had volunteered took a seat and got pied anyway! This has been an annual event for Relay each year since the school opened and the kids, and the teachers, look forward to it,” Rowe said.
The top five classes were
- Hope Tourney, first grade, $202.77, Kenli Rowe, fourth grade $202.77 (tie)

- Melissa Venable, kindergarten, $110.43
- Stephanie Harris, kindergarten, $100.77

Highway 29 Crash In Cantonment Injures At Least One Person
March 22, 2021
At least one person was injured a in a wreck in Cantonment Sunday afternoon.
The crash happened on Highway 29 at Woodland Street about 4:20 p.m., near the Cantonment Fire Station.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating. The Cantonment Station of Escambia Fire Rescue, Escambia County EMS and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office also responded.
