Storm Surge Of 3-6 Feet Expected Along Escambia Coast

August 28, 2012

The National Service is expecting a storm surge of 6-9 feet along coastal Alabama, and 3-6 feet in Florida. The upper reaches of Mobile and Escambia Bays, Bayou La Batre, Coden and the upper reaches of the Dog River will be particularly affected, according to the weather service.

Water levels are expected to begin rising by mid morning and reach a peak later Tuesday afternoon and early evening as Isaac makes its closest approach. The time of high tide is a bit earlier. The NWS isĀ  forecasting the heaviest rainfall to being Tuesday night; by that time, the storm surge will have receded somewhat.

If Isaac should take a last minute jog to the east, the weather service said storm surge values would dramatically increase.
