Flomaton Police Seek Man In Alleged Theft

The Flomaton Police Department has named a Century man as the suspect in a business theft early Monday morning.
Flomaton Police have an active warrant for 37-year old Eubie Alexander Kennedy for theft of property fourth degree and criminal trespass second degree.
FPD said Kennedy is the man seen on surveillance video in a theft about 12:44 a.m. Monday at an auto repair business. The alleged theft was caught on cameras at a nearby gas station, and the video shows the suspect entered the store.
Anyone with information on the incident on Kennedy’s whereabouts is asked to call the Flomaton Police Department at (251) 296-5811.

Want To Be A Beach Lifeguard? Tryouts Are Scheduled For Late January

Pensacola Beach Lifeguards will host tryouts late this month.
The tryouts will be held Saturday, January 29 at 9:30 a.m. at the University of West Florida Aquatic Center, located at 11000 University Parkway, Bldg. 72. Applicants are asked to arrive at least 15 minutes early and to bring all relevant certifications to the tryout event.
Starting salary for the job is $14.57 per hour.
Position requirements for employment include the following:
- Able to swim 600 yards in a pool in 10 minutes or less
- Able to run 1.5 miles on a track in 12 minutes or less
- Be at least 16 years old
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is preferred
Attending and passing the tryout is required to be considered for employment. If you pass the physical tests in the allotted time and meet all of the other requirements, you will be scheduled for an interview. If selected to be hired, you will receive paid training. Training includes, but is not limited to, successfully passing 80 hours of open water training and emergency medical training.

ECSO Seeks Cantonment Ace Hardware Retail Theft Suspect

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man that allegedly stole several items from the Cantonment Ace Hardware Store in the 1500 block of south Highway 29 in late December.
He was wearing a blue hat, sunglasses, a gray hoodie over a blue shirt, jeans, and shoes that were black and white. The store noted that it was warm — in the middle 70’s — at the time of theft, making the jacket somewhat unusual.
The man allegedly took a power tool and two batteries.
“We are not a large corporation. We are a small business. We can not tolerate theft,” the store posted on their Facebook page.

No Injuries In Highway 29 Crash Monday Morning

There were no injuries in a two vehicle wreck Monday morning on Highway 29 near Highway 97.
Two pickup trucks collided about 9:50 a.m. The trucks came to rest about 200 feet apart, just off the southbound Highway 29 merge lane.
Both drivers refused transport by Escambia County EMS.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating, and the Molino Station of Escambia Fire Rescue responded.

Applications Open For Supervisors Of Elections College Scholarship

Escambia County Supervisor of Elections David H. Stafford has announced the 2022 Florida Supervisors of Elections (FSE) college scholarship. Four $1,200 scholarships will be awarded this summer by FSE for the 2022 school year.
The scholarship is available to juniors or seniors attending an accredited Florida university or college, with a major in political science, public or business administration, or journalism/mass communications. Among the requirements, students must have maintained a “C” average or above the previous year, demonstrate financial need and be registered to vote.
Copies of the application and full eligibility requirements may be downloaded from the Escambia County Supervisor of Elections website by clicking here or may be picked up at the Elections Office, 213 Palafox Place, Second Floor. Completed applications must reach the SOE office by close of business Friday, March 11, 2022.
Stafford will forward one application with a written recommendation to the FSE Scholarship Committee, which will review the submissions from all 67 Florida counties. The scholarships will be awarded by the association and the winner will be announced at the 2022 FSE Summer Conference in May.
Students from Escambia County were scholarship winners in 2006, 2009, 2010, 2016 and 2020.
Molino Man Recovering From Rattlesnake Bite

An adult male suffered an apparent bite from a rattlesnake Sunday in Molino.
The bite was reported to Escambia County EMS about 11 a.m. The man was transported by ambulance from North Barth Road to a Pensacola hospital.
The victim was reportedly released from the hospital on Monday and is expected to make a full recovery. The snake was encountered as the person was raking a pile of leaves.

Florida Gas Prices Slip Another Penny; Many Finding Much Deeper Discounts At The Pump

Florida gas prices dropped another penny last week, with some drivers finding much deeper discounts at the pump.
Although the state average was $3.20 per gallon on Sunday, 7% of Florida gas stations had pump prices below $3 a gallon. The average per gallon in Escambia County was $3.13 Sunday night.
A North Escambia low of $2.95 could be found at a Highway 29 station in Cantonment Sunday night, and a handful of Pensacola gas stations were also at $2.95.
“January gas prices are often driven down by lower fuel demand. Unfortunately, that downward trend at the pump may soon come to an end,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Oil prices shot up last week and that could restore upward pressure in prices at the pump.”
