Man Charged With Kicking, Holding Girlfriend Against Her Will

A Flomaton man has been charged with kicking his girlfriend and holding her against her will in Cantonment.
Jorge Escobedo Saldana was charged with battery and false imprisonment.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office arrived at a disturbance call on Pinebrook Circle off Highway 297A.
The victim told deputies that she was ending the relationship with Saldana, her boyfriend. She said they have a child together.
As they drove onto Pinebrook Circle, they were involved in a verbal altercation. When she tried to exit the vehicle, Saldana grabbed her by the throat and told her that she was not going anywhere, according to an arrest report.
She ran, but fell. Saldana then kicked her in her side, the report continues. She was able to run away and hide under a vehicle.
He was released from the Escambia County Jail on a $3,000 bond.
Gilmore Knocks Grand Slam As Northview Beats The Escambia Gators 14-2; Tate Splits With Milton

Emma Gilmore hit a grand slam for the Northview Lady Chiefs Thursday night as they powered past the Escambia Gators 14-2 in Bratt.
Gilmore’s grand slam to center field scored Chloe Ragsdale, Jamison Gilman and Payton Gilchrist.
Ragsdale, Gilchrist, Makayla Golson and Aubrie Stuckey had two hits each for the Lady Chiefs. Gilmore, Alana Roberson, Gilman and Gracie Godwin had one hit each.
Stuckey pitched four and two-thirds innings for Northview, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out five. Alexis Barnhill closed in relief.

The junior varsity Northview Chiefs also defeated Escambia 6-4 Thursday in Bratt.
Milton 8, Tate 7
Milton topped the Tate Aggies 8-7 Thursday night.
Courtney Lundquist went seven innings, allow 11 eights and eight runs while striking out three.
Kennedy Turner had a home run for the Lady Aggies in the third inning.
Sophia Jones led at the plate for the Aggies, going 3-4.

The Northview Chiefs defeated Central 13-3 Thursday night in Bratt.
Jamarkus Jefferson went 3-3 at the plate to lead the Chiefs. Trent Knighten, Josh Landis and Kaden Odom had two hits each, while Rustin Pope and Wyatt Scruggs both had one.
Cason Burkett went three innings for Northview, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out two. Jefferson pitched one, allowing one run on one hits an striking out two. Ethan Collier went for two, striking out four.

Tate 8, Navarre 1 (Freshmen)
The Tate Aggie Freshmen defeated Navarre 8-1 Thursday.
Sheppard Edgar went two innings, allowing no runs, no hits and striking out five to earn the win for Tate. Trever Land, and Nathan Ozuna pitched in relief.
The Freshmen Aggies were led at the plate by Tyler Folder with two hits.

Suspect Evades Capture In Cantonment Manhunt

A suspect evaded capture during a manhunt Thursday afternoon in Cantonment.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic disturbance about 4:35 p.m. on Madrid Road. The domestic violence suspect allegedly hit his girlfriend before fleeing.
A perimeter was established and a K-9 search followed in the area of the Santa Maria Plaza/Farm Hill Park around Madrid, DeSoto and Santa Rosa roads. The sheriff’s office says the suspect was not located.
No suspect description or other information was provided.

ECSO Finds $500,000 Worth Of Meth, Plus Fentanyl During Search Warrant

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office seized nearly 20 pounds of meth — worth a half million dollars on the street – from a single house.
The ECSO Narcotics Unit SWAT team served a search warrant at a home in the 7700 block of Deborah Court, just south of Olive Road.
They also located over a half kilogram of cocaine and 37 grams of fentanyl, a stolen gun, and more than $6,900 in cash.
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is up to 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine. It is a major contributor to fatal and nonfatal overdoses in the U.S., according to the CDC..
“It is impossible to tell the exact impact of this seizure or the numbers of lives saved. Our narcotics unit worked hard on this investigation and these results are indicative of their commitment to the citizens of Escambia County,” Sheriff Chip Simmons said.
Jaquan Charmaine Xavier Smith was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana (under 20 grams), resisting arrest without violence, driving with a suspended license, and violation of probation.
This investigation is still ongoing and additional charges are likely against Smith, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
UPDATE: Child Safe, Amber Alert Canceled For Boy Last Seen In Northern Santa Rosa County

UPDATE: This amber alert has been canceled. FDLE says the boy is safe.
An amber alert has been issued for a six-year old boy last seen near Munson in northern Santa Rosa County.
Kanyen Kinsey, last seen in the area of the 7600 block of Buddy Hardy Road.
He was last seen wearing a fluorescent orange long sleeve jacket with yellow lettering on the back that says “Heritage Place”, blue jeans, and Nike shoes. The child may be traveling with an unknown adult in a white chevrolet long-bed diesel pickup truck.
Kinsey is four-feet, seven inches tall, 48 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes.
Anyone with information should call their local law enforcement agency or 911.
Cantonment Man Charged With Hitting His Brother In The Head With A Coffeepot

A Cantonment man is facing a felony charge after allegedly hitting his mentally disabled brother in the head with a coffeepot.
Blanchewon Freeman Nettles, 37, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
Nettles told deputies that his brother pushed him and continued to strike. Nettle went into his bedroom and grabbed a coffeepot and threatened to hit his brother with it, an arrest report states.
Nettle said that as his brother approached him again, he hit him in the head with the coffeepot, breaking it, the report continues.
The brother suffered cuts and was transported to West Florida Hospital for treatment.
Family told deputies that the victim is mentally handicapped and does not know right from wrong.
Nettles was released from the Escambia County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
Go Baby Go! Ascend Cares To Donate Modified Ride-On Cars To Escambia Westgate

Ascend Cares will donate “Go Baby Go” mobility cars to Escambia Westgate School.
“Go Baby Go” is a program that provides modified, ride-on cars to young children with disabilities so they can move around independently. The cars were created for the school’s younger students and will create an opportunity for students to learn and increase independent skills.
Ascend Cares and nearly 30 employees modified 11 of the cars back in December. The cars will be donated this Friday morning.
The modified toy cars give children with mobility disabilities a chance to play and socialize with their peers more easily. Research has shown that independent mobility is linked to cognitive, social, motor, language and other developmental benefits in young children. Being pushed in a stroller or being carried from one place to another is fundamentally different from having active control over one’s own exploration, which is where the developmental gains are seen.

With 1,142 Members, IMPACT 100 Will Award Over $1.1 Million To Local Nonprofits In 2022

IMPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area, a local women’s philanthropic organization, has announced 1,142 members for 2022.
IMPACT 100 will give back $1,142,000 by awarding 11 transformative project grants of $103,820 each to nonprofit organizations serving Escambia and Santa Rosa counties on October 16, 2022. This is the ninth consecutive year that IMPACT 100 has been able to award over one million dollars in grants to nonprofit organizations in the Greater Pensacola Bay Area.
This is the 19th year IMPACT 100 will have awarded grants to local nonprofit organizations. After awarding the 2022 grants, IMPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area will have funded 142 grants, totaling $15,092,000.
“I am so proud of the women of IMPACT 100. Through the combined efforts of 1,142 women, IMPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area will be able to award grants totaling $1,142,000 to 11 nonprofit organizations in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties,” said Roz Leahy, president of IMPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area. “What a wonderful, giving community we live in! The spirit of philanthropy is alive and well among us as demonstrated by the 1,142 women who have chosen to be a part of IMPACT 100 in 2022.”
In October of this year, IMPACT 100 will award grants in each of five focus areas for a total of 11 transformative grants in the areas of: Arts, Culture and History; Education; Environment & Recreation; Family; and Health & Wellness. Due to the overwhelming response to the membership drive, one additional grant will be awarded in one of the five focus areas for a total of 11 transformative grants.
IMPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area will host a free nonprofit workshop for those considering applying for a grant on Tuesday, April 19 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Brownsville Community Center. Speakers will be Dr. Irv Williams PHD, MCAP, director, Specialty Programs Lakeview Center Inc. and Emily Lalas, senior auditor of Saltmarsh, Cleaveland & Gund. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
Free Beans And Rice Giveaway Saturday In Cantonment

St. Monica’s Episcopal Church is continuing its food ministry with a free beans and rice giveaway this Saturday
On the last Saturday of every month, St. Monica’s gives away dried beans and white rice to anyone in need from 9-11 a.m., or while supplies last. Other non-perishable food items are included when available. There is no paperwork required.
St. Monica’s is located at 699 South Highway 95A, just north of Faith Chapel Funeral Home.
