Cantonment Woman Charged With Felony For Hitting Her Boyfriend In The Head With A Vase, ECSO Says

A Cantonment woman is facing a felony charge after allegedly hitting her boyfriend in the head with a vase. Sallie Eva Denise Jimenez, 37, was charged with felony aggravated battery using a deadly weapon.
Sallie Eva Denise Jimenez and her boyfriend allegedly became involved in an argument over missing keys. He said she struck him on the back of the head with a vase, causing his ear to bleed. He was evaluated by Escambia County EMS but refused transport to the hospital.
Deputies determined that Jimenez was the primary aggressor in the altercation, according to an arrest report.
She was released from jail on a $7,500 bond.

The Poarch Band of Creek Indians on Thursday announced a significant addition to the ever-growing OWA Parks & Resort destination, with a $50 million resort-style hotel planned to open in May 2025. Located on the north-east side of the newly opened Tropic Falls waterpark, this exciting expansion will provide guests with another convenient lodging option just steps away from all that OWA has to offer.
Architects from Dale Partners of Jackson, Miss., were selected to create the colorful, sleek design and tropical-inspired theme. Rabren General Contractors, one of the largest general contractors in Alabama, has been selected to oversee the construction.
“We are very excited to add this tropical inspired resort hotel to our portfolio,” said Cody Williamson, President/CEO of Creek Indian Enterprises Development Authority. “This new hotel will give guests another option to relax in Coastal Alabama, while still enjoying all the fun amenities that OWA has to offer. We continue to focus on these types of investment projects, which enable us to remain a strong economic partner for the local tourism industry and State of Alabama.”
The vibrant, multi-story hotel is still in the design stages, but development plans call for tropical-themed guest rooms that include a kitchenette and workspace, along with optional bunk bed spaces for larger families. Other key resort amenities will include an outdoor resort-style pool with a bar and grill, 24-hour fitness center, meeting space, lounge, convenience store, and arcade; along with complimentary valet service, Wifi, and breakfast.”

Tate FFA Forestry Evaluation Team Places Sixth In State Competition

The Tate FFA Forestry Evaluation Team placed sixth at the State FFA Contest in Perry, Florida. The team also achieved the recognition as thirdrd highest team for timber cruising.
The Forestry Career Development Event (CDE) requires students to demonstrate their skills in diagnosing forest disorders, managing forests and forest inventory and applying approved silviculture practices. Participation in the event offers students experience relevant to a career choice in forestry and natural resources.
A team event for four students, this CDE provides recognition for those who have demonstrated skills and competencies resulting from forestry instruction in the agricultural education classroom. Team members contribute individually by completing a general forestry knowledge exam, rounds of tree identification and measurement, and individual practicums.
Skills learned from this event range from forestry equipment identification to calculating a forest business management problem and prepare students for a variety of careers in forestry and natural resources.
Team Members included Synoma Perea, Ryan Grace, Isabella Owens, and Lawsen Thiesen. Tate Their Agricultural Educator/FFA Advisor is Melissa Gibbs.

Rep. Michelle Salzman and Beulah Church in partnership with Farm Share and other community partners are sponsoring a 30,000 pound Food Distribution and Thanksgiving Meal Giveaway on Saturday, November 18, starting at 7:30 AM while supplies last at the Beulah Church.
The food distribution will help those who may be struggling and going through a hard time to supplement their family Thansgiving. There will be full Thanksgiving meals for the first 300 families.

Woman Faces Up To Life In Prison For Setting Store Clerk on Fire

On Wednesday, an Escambia County woman pleaded to attempted first degree premeditated murder for setting a store clerk on fire.
Betty Jean McFadden entered the before Judge Linda Nobles for attempted first degree premeditated murder with a weapon. The charge stems from an incident at a Circle K on North W St. on March 30, 2022, where McFadden poured gasoline on a store clerk and set her on fire.
McFadden is scheduled for sentencing on January 12, 2024, where she will be facing a maximum of life in state prison.
IP Names New Manager Of Cantonment Mill

International Paper announced Wednesday that Hunter Morris has been named Mill Manager of International Paper’s Pensacola Containerboard Mill in Cantonment. In his new position, Morris will assume overall responsibility for safety, people engagement, commercial and operational excellence and community stewardship at the Pensacola Mill.
Most recently, Morris was the Operations Manager for the company’s Savannah, Georgia Mill. Morris joined International Paper in 2007 at the company’s Riegelwood, North Carolina mill. He has worked in several manufacturing and technical leadership roles of i increasing responsibility throughout his career with the company.
“I am excited to join the Pensacola team and my family and I are excited to move to the area and learn more about the people and community,” said Hunter Morris. “Being able to lead the team in Pensacola is a wonderful opportunity, and I look forward to contributing to the continued success of the Pensacola Mill.”
In a related move, Pensacola Mill Manager Scott Taylor has been promoted to Director of Manufacturing, Containerboard. In his new leadership role, Taylor will have oversight of the Henderson, Ky., Newport, Ind., Rome, Ga., and Springfield, Ore., Containerboard Mills. Since 2017, Taylor has been the Mill Manager at the Pensacola Mill. Taylor and his family will be relocating to the Memphis, Tennessee area.
“The time I spent with the Pensacola team and community has been immensely rewarding,” said Scott Taylor. “While my family and I have a sense of sadness leaving Pensacola, I am confident in leaving the mill team with Hunter and look forward to hearing about the continued successes and achievements of the Pensacola Mill.”
