COVID-19 Testing Available Wednesday And Friday In Cantonment

Community Health Northwest Florida will offer COVID-19 testing this week in Cantonment.
The drive-thru testing will be available at Cantonment Pediatrics from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday.
Community Health said that due to exceedingly high demand, the availability of rapid tests cannot be guaranteed at this time.
Cantonment Pediatrics is at 470 South Highway 29.

Portion Of I-10 Westbound Closed In Santa Rosa Due To Fuel Spill

A portion of I-10 westbound is closed in Santa Rosa County due to a fuel spill
I-10 westbound in Santa Rosa County is closed from Exit 31 (Milton) to Exit 22 (Avalon Blvd) due to the fuel spill. Authorities say to seek an alternate route and use caution when approaching the area.
It is not known how long the closure will be in effect.
A vehicle traveling that part of the interstate was leaking diesel fuel causing slick conditions.

- All public schools, UWF, PSC, and PCA are closed. More info…
- Escambia County offices will be closed Monday. Essential employees such as first responders and those contacted by their supervisors will be expected to maintain county operations
- Town of Century offices will be closed Monday.
- City of Pensacola office will be open an sanitation services will operate on a regular schedule.
- Courts in Escambia County will be closed Monday. Normal operations are anticipated to resume on Tuesday. Jurors summoned for the week in Escambia County should not report on Monday; but should plan to report on Tuesday at 8 a.m.
- Escambia County Property Appraiser’s offices will be closed due to weather Monday.
- Florida Department of Health in Escambia County — all clinics and services are closed for Monday and will reopen on Tuesday. Appointment can be rescheduled by calling (850) 595-6500.
- All Community Health Northwest Florida locations are closed Monday.
- Council on Aging of West Florida senior dining sites, including grab-and-go meals, are suspended Monday and will resume Tuesday. Meals on Wheels will be delivered as regularly scheduled Tuesday. The Retreat adult day care will also be closed Monday.
- Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller offices are closed Monday.
- ECAT bus service, UWF and Pensacola Beach trolley service are all suspended on Monday
- All West Florida Library locations will be closed on Monday.

All Escambia, Santa Rosa Schools Closed Monday

Most area schools will be closed on Monday due to Hurricane Ida concerns.
Escambia County, Florida
Superintendent Timothy A. Smith has announced that all schools and offices within the Escambia County School District (ECSD) will close Monday, August 30, 2021, due to Hurricane Ida. The cancellation of regular school district operations includes all extracurricular activities. Currently, the school district plans to reopen on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. This decision is based on current recommendations from the Escambia Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
- Gonzalez UMC Child Enrichment Center will be closed Monday
Pensacola Christian
Pensacola Christian Academy classes and all activities are canceled for Monday, August 30, because of potential winds and flash flooding from Hurricane Ida. School is currently scheduled to resume on Tuesday. Pensacola Christian College has not yet started fall semester classes.
Pensacola State
UPDATE – All locations of Pensacola State College will be closed Monday, August 30, and will reopen on Tuesday for regular hours. This includes all classes, events, campus activities and online courses. Essential employees such as public safety and those contacted by their supervisors will be asked to report to work.
University of West Florida
UPDATE – All UWF locations, including the Pensacola campus, UWF Emerald Coast and UWF Historic Trust, will close Sunday, Aug. 29 at 8 p.m. and will remain closed through Tuesday, Aug. 31 at 4:59 a.m. This includes all classes, events, campus activities and online courses. Normal University operations, classes, events and campus activities will resume Tuesday, Aug. 31 at 5 a.m.
Santa Rosa County
All Santa Rosa County District Schools will be closed Mon., Aug. 30, to include all after-school activities. School and after-school activities are expected to resume Tues., Aug. 31 as usual and a confirmation will be sent by Monday at 5 p.m.
Escambia County, Alabama
All Escambia County Alabama Schools and offices will be closed tomorrow due to the potential for hazardous conditions caused by Hurricane Ida.
“We feel it is in the best interest of all to close all schools tomorrow, Monday, August 30, 2021. We do plan for all Escambia County Alabama Schools and offices to be open effective Tuesday, August 31, 2021. We encourage you to monitor for weather reports and local information, and take caution to be safe,” Superintendent John Knott said.
Escambia Academy and Atmore Christian School will also be closed.

Category 4 Hurricane Ida made landfall Sunday as an extremely dangerous Category 4 hurricane near Port Fourchon, Louisiana, with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph and a minimum central pressure of 930 mb (27.46 inches). Landfall was about 15 miles southwest of Grand Isle.
What remains of Ida continues inland into Mississippi Monday.

UPDATE: Major Hurricane Ida made landfall Sunday as an extremely dangerous Category 4 hurricane near Port Fourchon, Louisiana, with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph and a minimum central pressure of 930 mb (27.46 inches). That is about 15 miles southwest of Grand Isle.
In North Escambia, there is a tornado watch, flash flood watch and a high wind advisory in effect.
- High threat for heavy rain leading to flash flooding that will persist through Tuesday
- Dangerous surf and a high risk of rip currents continues through early next week
- Tropical storm force winds, especially in gusts, are through Monday across southeast Mississippi and coastal Alabama
- Tornado threat will increase across far southeast Mississippi, coastal Alabama, and the western Florida Panhandle. This threat will spread further inland and persist through Monday.
- Life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet is expected across coastal Alabama, including Mobile Bay

Escambia County is offering free sand for residents living in flood-prone areas in advance of possible heavy tropical rain due to Hurricane Ida. The sand is available on a first come, first served basis at the following locations:
- John R. Jones Jr. Athletic Park – 555 E. Nine Mile Road
- Don Sutton Park – 2320 Crabtree Church Road, Molino
- Travis M. Nelson Park - 4541 Highway 4, Bratt
- Equestrian Center – 7750 Mobile Highway
- Escambia County Road Department – 601 Highway 297A
- Brent Athletic Park – 4711 N. W St., Pensacola
- Ferry Pass Middle School -available on northwest corner of school property on Parazine Street
- Baars Field Athletic Park – 13001 Sorrento Road, Pensacola
Residents must bring their own sandbags and shovels. Sandbags are usually available for purchase at home improvement and hardware stores.
