Flowers can’t solve all problems. But they’re a great start.
There’s a new roadside flower stand in Bratt, and it’s on the honor system.
The rustic stand is located next to a corn field on Highway 4, just east of Pine Barren Road and Northview High School. When we stopped by Friday, there were fresh cut bouquets priced at $10 and $20.

Traffic Shift On Nine Mile Road; Temporary Closures At Cove And Bowman Avenues

Nine Mile Road traffic between Klondike Road and Surrey Drive will be shifted to the newly constructed eastbound roadway (one lane in each direction) this week as crews build the new westbound lanes. Westbound traffic, west of Pinecone Drive, will open to two travel lanes.
Cove Avenue north of Nine Mile Road will be closed to traffic at 7 a.m. beginning Tuesday, June 16. Drivers may use 9 1/2 Road and Bowman Avenue as an alternate route.
Additionally, Bowman Avenue north of Nine Mile Road will be closed to traffic at 7 a.m. beginning Tuesday, June 23. Ashland Avenue and Ponderosa Drive will be used as an alternate route.
The temporary closures are anticipated to take seven to 10 days, each, to complete as crews perform construction activities. Detour signs and variable message boards are in place to alert drivers.
All activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.

Escambia County, Alabama, Tops 100 Positive COVID-19 Cases

The number of positive COVID-19 cases in Escambia County, Alabama, has passed 100.
The latest data from the Alabama Department of Public health shows 107 positive cases across the county as of Monday night, with 35 of those reported in the last two weeks. There have been three deaths.

Florida Gas Prices Stalling Due To Renewed COVID-19 Concerns, AAA Says

The average Florida gas prices exceeded $2 last week for the first time since March, but for now it appears they are holding steady.
“The recent upward momentum in pump prices is beginning to stall amid renewed concerns regarding the coronavirus,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Market-watchers are beginning to worry that elevated cases of Covid-19 in Florida and some other states could result in another drop in gasoline demand. For now, gas prices should hold steady this week with the possibility of a slight decline.”
The average price of gallon in the state is $2.02, about 50 cents per gallon less than a year ago.
In Escambia County, the average price was $1.97. In North Escambia, the low price was $1.89 at a couple of Cantonment stations, while in Pensacola one station was at $1.79
Beulah Food Trucks Are Back Once Per Month. Here’s The Schedule For This Tuesday.

During the pandemic, Escambia County started allowing food trucks daily in the parking lot of the Escambia County Equestrian Center at 7550 Mobile Highway.
The schedule has been cut back to just the third Tuesday of the month. The food trucks will be at the county-owned facility from 3-7 p.m. on June 16, July 21 and August 18.
This Tuesday, June 16, the following food trucks are scheduled:
- Dr. Sno’s Shaved Ice 3-7 p.m.
- 3-D Eats & Tea Pensacola 3-7 p.m.
- Rolling Embers Wood Fired Pizza 4-7 p.m.
- Beck’s Jamaican Kitchen 4-7 p.m.
And if if you are looking for a Taco Tuesday, we’re told Beck’s Jamaican Kitchen will be serving jerk chicken tacos.
The parking lot is a large area and provides ample room for residents to adhere to all CDC social distancing protocols, according to the county. To participate as a food truck vendor, call (850) 941-6042 for a vendor application. All Equestrian Center vendor fees will be waived.

Mr. Judge G. Lloyd, 78 of Atmore, AL. passed away June 8, 2020 in Atmore. He was born Aug. 14, 1941 in Frisco City, AL. to the late John and Issie Lloyd. He was a retired Forman from Scott Paper Company/Kimberly Clark with over 37 years of service. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Bessie, Charlie Mae, Luverne, Mable and one brother Ray. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Robinson Lloyd of Atmore, AL. One son Steven (Tonya) Lloyd of Walnut Hill, FL. Three daughters Melanie (Jamerson) Nelson of Excel, AL; Shala Stearns (Matthew Canning) of Atlanta, GA and Michelle Wright of Atmore, AL. Two sisters Sally Weatherford of Frisco City, AL. and Louise (Jimmy) Robards of Pensacola, FL. Four grandchildren Judd, Kaina, Kaitlin and Hunter.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, June 11, 2020 at 11 AM at Huxford Community of Christ Cemetery with Minister Beth Linam officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 11, 2020 from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.
Ernest Jerry Hall

Ernest Jerry Hall left this world on 12 June 2020 at the age of 86. He was the only son of Ernest and Velor Hall (Davis) of Oak Grove, Florida.
Mr. Hall’s life was one of adventures and world travel. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1955 as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a Farmer, Cattleman and a Merchant Marine Chief Engineer on various vessels sailing the world over.
Mr. Hall leaves behind a sister, Jackie Brown of Bratt; mother of his children, Mildred Marie Hadley Hall of Perdido, AL; a son, Mark Hall (Debra) of Oak Grove; 9 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren.
Mr. Hall is preceded in death by his wife Judith Hall Robbins of Walnut Hill; one son Alfred Bruce Hall of Oak Grove; and three sisters, Martez Rutherford of Pensacola, Julia Johnson of Oak Grove and Betty Wells of Bratt.
Mr. Hall will be laid to rest with a Private Service at the Godwin Cemetery in Bratt, Florida.

Mrs. Rosa Mae Carroll, age 88 of Monroeville, AL passed away on Monday, June 15, 2020 at her home.
Mrs. Carroll was born in Century, FL, and had spent the last 26 years residing in Monroeville coming from Century, FL. She was a homemaker, a mid-wife, loved sewing and making quilts, cooking and planting flowers. Mrs. Carroll was preceded in death by her husband, James Monroe Carroll; brother, Leroy Johnson, and son-in-law, Frank ‘Doc’ Rolin. She was of the Christian faith.
She is survived by her sons, James H. Carroll of Lancaster, OH, Thomas H. (Bobbie Jo) Carroll of Geneva, AL, John Wayne Carroll of Monroeville, AL and Ted (Vicky) Carroll of Monroeville, AL; daughters, Brenda Joyce Carroll of Monroeville, AL and Glenda Mae (Jimmy) Woods of Jay, FL; sister, Ruby Gunn of Pensacola, FL; numerous grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel from 6 to 8 P.M.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 19, 2020 at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel at 2 P.M.
Interment will be in Crary Memorial Cemetery, Century, FL.
Sunday Report: Escambia County COVID-19 Cases Increase By 24

The number of COVID-19 cases in Escambia County increased by 24 Sunday according to the Florida Department of Health.
The number of cases in Escambia County is now 985, and Santa Rosa County increased by six to 291.
Of the 38 deaths in Escambia County, 29 have been long-term care facility residents or staff. There have been nine deaths in Santa Rosa County, seven of those at the Blackwater River Correctional Facility and none in long-term care facilities.
Statewide, there were 75,568 cases including 73,650 Florida residents. There have been 11,942 hospitalizations* and 2,925 deaths. The Florida Department of Health does not have a clear standard or definition of “recovered” and does not report a number of recovered individuals.
