Burks Throws Complete Game Shutout As Tate Beats Pine Forest 15-0

Abbie Burks threw a complete game shutout Thursday night at the Tate Lady Aggies beat Pine Forest 15-0.

Burks led the Aggies in the circle going four innings, allowing four hits, no hits, no walks and striking out four.

Cam Wolfenden and Ryleigh Cawby led Tate with three hits each.

Wolfenden went 3-4 with three RBIs; Cawby was 3-4 with three runs and two RBIs. Also for Tate: Hannah Halfacre 1-2, 2R; Gabby Locke 2-4, 4R, 4RBI; Lilly Locke 1-1, 2RBI; Madison Holland 2-2, 2R, 2RBI; Taylor Noack R; Courtney Adams R; Abbie Burks 1-2, R.

Tate Tennis Tops Navarre

West Florida Softball Defeats Gulf Breeze; Pine Forest Baseball Tops Crestview

West Florida 3, Gulf Breeze 1

Both teams were strong on the rubber Thursday ,but the West Florida Jags defeated Gulf Breeze 3-1. Jeya Prasad allowed just two hits to Gulf Breeze.

Prasad was the winning pitcher for the Lady Jags. She lasted seven innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out 15 and walking zero.

West Florida J racked up seven hits. MacKenzee Mcbride and Kenzi Wiley each racked up multiple hits the Lady Jags

Pine Forest 14, Crestview 1

Pine Forest Scored eight runs in the fourth on its way to a 14-1 victory over Crestview on Thursday.

Tekoah Roby, Nolan Rigby, Christian Munoz, Jaylen Bryant, Bryce Alderman, and Timmy Williams each had RBIs in the fourth.

Pine Forest fired up the offense in the first inning; the Eagles scored one run when Jason Roberts tripled.

Pine Forest put the pressure on, lead by walks by Rigby and Munoz, singles by Williams and Wyatt Gill, doubles by Roby and Alderman, and by Bryant.

Roberts was credited with the victory for Pine Forest. He allowed three hits and one run over four innings. Jared Riddell threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Pine Forest collected 10 hits on the day. Roberts and Roby managed multiple hits for Pine Forest.

West Florida Softball Moves Up To No. 1 In NFCA Poll

For the first time since 2005, the University of West Florida softball team holds the top spot in the National Fastpitch Coaches Assocation poll, the organization announced Wednesday. The Argonauts are 31-4 overall and 14-1 in Gulf South Conference play after sweeping Delta State last weekend.

UWF was ranked No. 3 in last week’s poll and has the second-best winning percentage (.886) in the country, behind only No. 2 Central Oklahoma (.926). The Argos are the seventh consecutive No. 1 team in the poll, earning eight first-place votes from voting members. Last week’s top team, North Georgia, finished third in the poll on Wednesday.

West Florida was last ranked No. 1 during its 60-6 season in 2005, a year that marked the most wins since the program moved to Division II.

The Argonauts are among the most well-rounded teams in the country this season, ranking fourth in DII in shutouts (11), fifth in ERA (1.36), ninth in batting (.350), 12th in on-base percentage (.425), and 13th in fielding percentage (.974).

West Florida will host Shorter for a GSC series on Saturday and Sunday, and UWF will hold “Bark at the Park” on Saturday.

The Tate Lady Aggies destroyed Washington 17-1 Tuesday night in a run-rule three inning game.

Avery Beauchaine earned the win for Tate, allowing one run, one hit, walking two and striking out five.

Ryleigh Cawby had a homer for the Aggies, going 3-3 with two runs and five RBIs. Also for Tate: Amber Decoux 1-2, 2R, RBI; Hannah Halfacre 2R; Beauchaine R; Madison Cawby R; Lilly Locke 2-2, 2R, RBI; Cam Wolfenden 1-3, 2R; RBI; Shelby McLean 1-2, 2R, RBI; Taylor Noack 1-2, 2R, RBI; Gabby Locke R.

Tate 18, Washington 0 (JV)

The Tate Aggies JV sent the Washington Wildcats packing in short order Tuesday afternoon with an 18-0 shutout in three innings.

Courtney Lundquist earned the win for the Aggies, allowing no run, no hits, walking one and striking out eight on 44 pitches.

West Florida 10, Fort Walton Beach 8

West Florida Jags Varsity nabbed the lead late in the game in a 10-8 victory over Fort Walton Beach on Tuesday.  West Florida Jags Varsity trailed 8-7 in the top of the fifth inning when McKenzi Kent singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.

Meredith Morgan led the West Florida Jags Varsity to victory in the pitcher’s circle. She allowed four hits and eight runs over five innings, striking out one.

McKenzi Kent went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead West Florida Jags Varsity in hits.  West Florida Jags Varsity tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Makayla Kent led the way with two.

BASEBALL

Escambia 7, Northview 4

The Northview Chiefs fell to Escambia 7-4 Tuesday night.

Northview opened with a double from Jackson Moore in the first and added three runs in the third powered by hits from Moore and Adam Aliff for a 4-3 advantage headed into the bottom of the sixth.

Seth Killam got with win for the Chiefs with one hit, no runs, no walks and three strikeouts. ick Venable and Tanner Levins entered the game as relief.

Pine Forest 4, West Florida 0

Pine Forest defeated West Florida 4-0 on Tuesday as Tekoah Roby and Timmy Williams combined for the shutout.

Pine Forest got on the board in the second inning scoring 3 times. Pine Forest added a late insurance run on an RBI single by 1st baseman Jalen Bryant.

Tekoah Roby earned the win for Pine Forest. He surrendered zero runs on three hits over five and a third innings, striking out ten. Timmy Williams threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. Williams recorded the last five outs to earn the save for Pine Forest.

Pine Forest collected eight hits. Nolan Rigby, Chase Gullatt, and Christian Munoz each collected multiple hits for Pine Forest. Pine Forest didn’t commit a single error in the field.

Tate 2, Gulf Breeze 1 (JV)

In freshman action, Tate defeated Gulf Breeze 2-1.

Dagan Guy grounded out, scoring one run for the Aggies in the first. In the third, Kirk Mosley singled on a 1-0 count for a run.

Conner Wright pitched Tate Aggies Freshman 2019 to victory. He surrendered one run on two hits over four innings, striking out five. Warren Henke threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen. Henke recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for the freshmen Aggies.

Tate Shuts Out PHS With Grand Slam From Land, Homers From LaFleur And McLean

The Tate Aggies shut out the Pensacola Tigers Monday night 8-0.

The Aggies exploded with home runs from Raymond LaFleur and Hunter McLean, and Mason Land hit a grand slam. Cole Fryman also had a couple of hits for Tate.

The winning pitcher for the Aggies was Sam Shackle, giving up no run on one hit and striking out seven in three and two-thirds innings. Ethan George threw three and a third innings in relief.

The varsity Aggies will be at Washington on Thursday at 7 p.m.

TC Venom Falls To Birmingham In Century Home Opener

The T.C. Venom minor league football team opened home play with a hard-fought 35-28 loss to the Birmingham Steel City Raptors Saturday night in Century.

The Venom struck first with 11:26 on the clock in the first to take a 7-0 lead on home turf at Anthony Pleasant Park.

With 9:25 on the clock in the second, the Raptors were up 13-7. But with 2:25 to go in the half, the Venom hit again for 14-13 that quickly reversed to 21-14 lead about a minute later.

In the third, the Venom capitalized on an interception to score on the ensuing drive. With a good two-point conversion, the Venom were back on top 22-21.

On the first play of the fourth quarter, oddly with no time off the clock, the Raptors scored to go back on top 28-22. At the 11:05 mark in the fourth, the Venom tied it up, but the Raptors went back on top for the win with 1:55 to go in the game.

The Venom will home the next two Saturday nights at 7:00, hosting the New Orleans Crescent City Kings on March 30 and the Greater Pensacola Jets on April 6. Admission is $10 for ages 13 and over.

Tate Wins Aggie Classic Championship (With Photo Gallery)

The Tate Aggies won the their third Aggie Classic championship in four years Thursday night with a 5-3 victory over Choctaw, OK.

The Aggies were down by three in the top of the of the fifth when Raymond Lafleur homered on a 3-1 count.

Brantley Culbertson earned the win for the Aggies. He allowed four hits and zero runs over four and a third innings while striking out three. Darrien McDowell started on the mound for Tate, allowing five hits and three runs over two and two-thirds innings while striking out two.

The Aggies recorded no errors.

Tate Beats Noble Oklahoma To Advance To Aggie Classic Championship Game

The Tate Aggies have advanced to the championship game of the 2019 Aggie Classic. Tate will host top seed Choctaw, OK, at 7 p.m.

The Aggies defeated Noble, OK, 3-1 Wednesday night under a rising outfield supermoon (pictured left).

Cole Fryman earned the win for Tate in six innings, allowing no runs and two hits while striking out eight and walking one. Easton Sidner threw one inning in relief, recording the last three outs to earn the save.

Darrien McDowell went 2-3 with a run, while Mason Land was 2-4 with a RBI. Also for Tate: Hunter McClean 1-3, R; Raymond Lafleur 1-3, RBI; Chase Tolbert 1-4, RBI; Michael Potts R.
