Ronald Wayne Sims ‘Ronnie’

Ronald Wayne Sims “Ronnie “passed away at home on Wednesday August 7, 2024 after an extended illness. He was born in Century Florida on March 8th 1948 to Alton Thomas Sims “Buck” and Annie Lou McClammy Sims “Boo-Boo” who have preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death is his beloved wife of 43 years, Ann. Also, brother Billy Sims.
Ronnie is survived by one son Randy Wayne Sims (Chasity Reid), one brother Gene Sims (Carol), three step-daughters and son in laws; Donna and Micheal Ishee, Paula and Greg Fabbro, Ronda and Hutch Hutchison. Seven grandchildren; Colton Sims (Sarah), Dylan Sims, Hayden Sims, Emily Ishee, Caleb Ishee, Madeleine Hutchison, and Hannah Fabbro Smith (Ben); five great grandchildren; Audrey Ann Sims, Lincoln Wayne Sims, and William, Gregory and Hattie Smith. Bonus grandchildren Tori Reid Brown (Joe), Blake Reid (Morgan). Bonus great grandchildren; Asher and Willow Brown, Eden Reid, Kensley and Elyzah Whitley as well as many nieces, nephews and friends who he loved as family.
Ronnie was a well-loved and lifelong member of the broader Century community having been raised on Cox Road in McDavid Florida and attending school in McDavid and Century. Ronnie truly never met a stranger, always greeting you with a warm smile, as if he had known you for years. Chances are that he had, having made so many friends through the years in the local oil field community and beyond.
He married Ann in 1971 and began his official career working with Brown & Root as a masterful heavy equipment operator and supervisor for many years before owning his own businesses and working with Charco until he and his son Randy started and ran S&S Construction for many years. At the time of his passing, he was employed with Campbells Sand and Gravel.
Ronnie was best known for kindness, generosity and a very strong work ethic. No doubt we often will find ourselves repeating some of his famous one liner. One of the families’ favorites is “Somebody’s got to work!”
Funeral service will be held Monday, August 12, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC.
Burial will follow at Godwin Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 11, 2024 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie’s grandsons and sons-in-laws.
Emily Christine (Black) Truesdell
August 7, 2024
Emily Christine (Black) Truesdell, age 95, passed away on August 5, 2024, at her home in Bogia, Florida, not far from where she was born on December 14, 1928. Christine trusted Jesus as her Savior as a young girl & continued her walked with the Lord faithfully through the years by reading her Bible & praying every day as she enjoyed her morning cup of coffee. She was a devoted, life-long member of Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church. Throughout her life, she willingly assumed the responsibility of any role that needed filling at the church, some of which included Sunday School teacher, nursery worker, choir member, & clerk. The last few years of her life, she impacted the congregations of 2 other churches with her talkative personality, Flag Chapel Baptist Church & Pensacola Baptist Temple.
Christine was a pillar of her community. Her legacy of involvement extends beyond her personal life. For many years, she was an active member of the McDavid Sew & Sew Club. She & her late husband, Raymond Truesdell, were members of Gideons International. They travelled the States with the church in their RV, conducting backyard Bible clubs. They also enjoyed travelling with the Good Sam RV Club. She was a talented lady, showcasing her ability as a model in a fashion show at Pensacola Junior College & singing in the county-wide choir long ago. Through the years, she enjoyed sewing, crafting, painting lessons, growing plants, & fishing.
After raising her family, her professional life included a short time at the Vanity Fair Sewing Factory, after which she pursued a career in nursing. She received her Practical Nursing License & worked for many years as a bed-side nurse at Brewton Memorial Hospital, Tuberville Memorial Hospital in Century, & finally retiring at University Hospital in Pensacola. Even after retirement, she continued to be active serving her community as a volunteer nurse at the Health & Hope Clinic in Century.
Christine loved her family & was proud of them. Though many passed before her, she enjoyed spending time with her friends for as long as she was able. Many who know her well, will tell you she never wanted you to bring her chocolates, preferring instead any hard, colorful candy & she loved sharing them with others.
Perhaps her most enduring legacy of love will be the care she & Raymond gave to numerous foster children down through the years. Their home was always open to anyone, family or stranger, no matter the need. She will be remembered for the caring, hardworking, & capable lady she was & for the hospitality she administered to so many.
She is survived by her daughter, June Capps, & her son, Rev. Dexter Truesdell (Laura), both of Bogia, Florida; son-in-law, Bobbie Robbins & brother-in-law, Fred Petty, both of central Florida; 6 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; & many nephews, nieces, & cousins around the country. She is proceeded in death by her husband of 65 years, Raymond Truesdell; her parents, Rupert & Idell Black; her brother, Rubert Black Jr (Buddy); her sister, Joan Brooks; her daughter, Jane Baker Robbins; & her son-in-law, Andy Capps.
The family would like to thank Emerald Coast Hospice for making it possible to care for their mother & grandmother at home till the end.
Funeral service will be held Friday, August 9, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Ralph, Reverend Dexter Truesdell and Reverend Wesley Enfinger officiating.
Burial will follow at Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 9, 2024 from 9:30 AM until service time at 11:00 AM at Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church.

Mr. William Anthony “Tony” Day age 70 of Old Flomaton Road in Flomaton, passed away Saturday August 3, 2024 in a Pensacola Florida hospice facility. Mr. Day was a native and life long resident of Century and was a farmer. He was a avid fisherman, hunter, loved outdoors, riding the river and loved to farm produce. Mr. Day loved Florida State Football and spending time with family and friends. He was of the Baptist Faith.

Sheila Donaldson, 68, of Atmore, passed away on August 2, 2024 in Pensacola, FL. She was born on April 12, 1956 in Atmore, AL to Harvey and Elma Lee Bradberry. She was a 1974 graduate of Ernest Ward High School. She was a retired loan processer at First National Bank & Trust. She was a dedicated Christian, mother and friend. She was a very talented pianist. She played the piano for Walnut Hill Baptist Church for over 20 years. She loved spending time with her family, especially her 6 grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her sons, Michael Donaldson (Beth Donaldson) of Daphne and Steven Donaldson (Lauren Donaldson) of Atmore; her brother, Harvey Bradberry of Walnut Hill, FL; 6 grandchildren, Paisley Donaldson, Ivey Donaldson, Christian Donaldson, Lux Donaldson, Silas Donaldson and Ellie Donaldson and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ted Bridges officiating.

Mrs. Helen Susan Barnes, age 72, of Bratt, FL., went to be with the Lord July 31, 2024.
Mrs. Barnes loved the lord with all of her heart. She loved her family, she loved to cook, she loved to play the piano and sing. She loved going to the mountains and traveling. She loved people and would go the last mile for anyone.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas (Louise) Fillingim; sister, Gail (Seabo) Chavers; and brother, Neil (Sonja) Fillingim.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Leslie Barnes; children, Blake (Heather) Barnes; Lindsay (Dustin) Rector; Ryleigh Sue Barnes; siblings, Butch (Faye) Fillingim; Johnny (Patsy) Fillingim; grandchildren, Naudia, Zack, Tyler, Sophia, Zander, Emma, Lucas, Dalton and Aiden. She had a lot of precious nieces and nephews, as well as, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Eveline A. Hollingshead, age 87, passed away, Friday, July 26, 2024, in Pensacola, FL. She was a lifelong resident of Century, FL; and attended Bratt Assembly of God Church.
Mrs. Hollingshead enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and her church family. She loved animals, going shopping, and fishing. She really liked to cook for family and friends, and sitting down watching a good western. In her pass-time she enjoyed gardening with flowers, and vegetables.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Sam (Lizzie Campbell) Andrews, husband, Gordon Junior Hollingshead, two sisters, Helen Williams, and Evelyn Bass.
Mrs. Hollingshead is survived by her one son, Randal Hollingshead, of Century, FL; two grandchildren, Anna Hollingshead, and Kayla Hollingshead.

James ‘Jim’ E. Way, Jr.

James “Jim” E. Way, Jr. passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.
Jim was born on January 6, 1964, in Pensacola to James E. Way Sr. and Linda {Holifield} Way. He started with the Escambia County Jail in 1983, retiring in 1996, at the rank of lieutenant. After retiring from the county jail, Jim joined his father at Way Bail Bond, Inc., which his father started in 1967. Jim became president of the company upon his father’s death in 2006. He poured his heart and soul into Way Bail Bond, Inc. for the last 28 years and became a respected businessman whose reputation and integrity was beyond reproach. Over the years, Jim helped countless individuals and families in the community and was known as a no-nonsense, straight shooter with a heart of gold. He was not only a bondsman but a mentor and friend to many. Nancy, his wife, joined him at Way Bail Bond in 2000, and together they worked hard building the company and life they shared together. Tammy Spainhower joined the company in 2019 and was so much more than an “employee”. She was Jim’s “pal” and they shared a special friendship dating back to the old days at the jail together. We also want to recognize Earl McKinney who started his bail bond career with us and eventually began his own company. Earl has stepped in to help tend to business related matters while the family lays Jim to rest. We are forever grateful for his love, friendship and support.
Jim’s first love was law enforcement. He maintained special relationships with both the Escambia and Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s offices after his law enforcement career concluded. Always a familiar face around the jail, he shared a special bond and continued to lend support to his law enforcement brothers and sisters. The family would like to thank both agencies for their unwavering support during this difficult time.
Jim loved his children with his whole heart and his grandbabies were the light of his life. He loved to spoil them and got so much joy seeing them smile. Being a protector and provider, his number one priority was taking care of those he loved. This included his pets, especially his office cats, Buddy and Vision, as well as the feral colony of cats he would feed and tend to within the surrounding area. At home, he would be greeted by his menagerie of dogs and cats with whom he loved so deeply.

Jim is preceded in death by his father and mother.
Jim is survived by his wife of 27 years, Nancy. His three sons, Eric (Chelsea) Kroll of Pensacola, FL, Shawn (Nirvana) Kroll of Jacksonville, NC and James Mitchell Way of Pace, FL. Along with his sister, Deborah (Al) Menard of Cantonment, FL. Finally, Jim’s precious grandchildren include Kortney, Hunter, Conner, Bryce, Everleigh and a great grandson, Austin.
Jim, you touched more lives than you will ever realize and to say you will be missed is a great understatement. The way that you lived your life and the love you gave will leave a hole in our hearts that will never be filled.

Mrs. Lois Montel, age 81, passed away, Wednesday, July 31, 2024, in Atmore, AL. She resided in Montgomery, AL; for many years before moving to Atmore, AL; the past 15 years. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church and enjoyed attending church services so much.
Mrs. Montel enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and watching them in sporting events. She was self-appointed “Mayor” of The Meadows and enjoyed interacting with the people there. She loved listening to gospel music and sitting with the elderly. She was a big “Alabama Football Fan and “Atlanta Braves Fan”.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lavon (Bertha Jackson) Brooks, husband, Daniel Montel, and one sister, Sue Wooten.
She is survived by her one son, Rusty (Jean) Montel, of Huxford, AL; one daughter, Teresa Eveline Montel (Jimmy) Stanton, of Century, FL; three brothers, Robert (Patricia) Brooks, of Montgomery, AL; Micky (Carol) Brooks, of Montgomery, AL; Johnny Brooks, of Sulphur, LA; two sisters, Donna (Carl) Smith, of Brownwood, TX; Jane (Dr. Jeff) Snyder, of Tallahassee, FL; five grandchildren, Aaron Rodgers; Jessika Bennett; Craig Montel; Josh Montel; Tyler Lessard; eight great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Mary Lou Irene Shaw

Mary Lou Irene Shaw, 89, of Pensacola, FL died peacefully after a long hard fight with dementia and CHF on Saturday, June 29, 2024.
She was born on March 28, 1935, in Port Huron, MI to the late Arthur and Madeline Stanyer. She grew up and spent most of her life in the Lake Port and Port Huron areas. In the last 4 years of her life, she moved to Pensacola, FL to live with her daughter.
Mary Lou had a true love for children. She worked for the Foster Grandparent program in Port Huron for over 11 years. She was honored with the annual Emperor Penguin Award in 2012 for her exceptional work in the Foster Grandparent program. The Penguin Award is given to foster grandparents who sustain the goal of providing excellence in children’s education. She loved to teach etiquette to the younger children so that they would grow up and be polite adults. She loved to dance as well. You could catch her on any dance floor…weddings, senior dances, at her senior independent living facility, etc. She loved to grab folks who may have been wallflowers and get them to dance with her. Even people in wheelchairs she would love to spin them around to make sure that they participated in the dances. Mary Lou loved to travel with her daughter to just about anywhere. She was able to travel to Australia, New Zealand, England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Italy, Spain, Mexico…and her favorite spot Kauai – Hawaii.
She is survived by her four children Gordon Albert Shaw (Debra), Frederick Arthur Shaw, Rodney Alan Shaw (Cristina) and Laura L. (Lorie) Shaw, 5 grandchildren – Whitney Provost (Adam), Jenna George (David), Aubrey Shaw, Leslie Ann Shaw-Shef (Nik), Rodney Allan Shaw II (Monica), and 9 great-grandchildren (Ashley, Kaylah, Rodney III, Hunter, Collette, Gabrielle, Brooks, Kyra, and Kalista).
There will be a memorial service in Pensacola, FL on August 3, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Faith Chapel – North, 1000 S. Highway 29, Cantonment, FL 32533. A meal will be provided at the conclusion of the memorial service at the event center at Faith Chapel North. The memorial service will be live-streamed for those who can’t make the service.
There will be a final resting place memorial service held in Port Huron, Mi September 28th, 2024. The grave site memorial will be held at 11 AM at the Ruby Cemetery, North Street, Michigan. A meal will follow at the Dorsey House, North Street, MI.
