These Are This Week’s Road Construction Delay Areas

Drivers will encounter traffic disruptions on the following state roads in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties as crews perform construction and maintenance activities.
Escambia County:
- Interstate 10 (I-10) Escambia County Welcome Center – The front parking lot is temporarily closed as crews work to resurface the pavement. All other parking areas remain open. Temporary sidewalk modifications are also in place while work is underway.
- U.S. 98 Pensacola Bay Bridge Replacement – Drivers will encounter alternating lane closures and lane shifts Sunday, Aug. 14 through Saturday, Aug. 20 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. On Tuesday, Aug. 16, U.S. 98 westbound (Gulf Breeze to Pensacola) will have lane closures beginning at 10 p.m. due to Bands on the Beach. Crews will be using lanes on the current bridge as a platform to pour concrete decks for the westbound (Gulf Breeze to Pensacola) structure.
- West Cervantes Street (U.S. 90) Pedestrian Safety Improvement – Drivers may encounter intermittent daytime and nighttime single lane closures and lane shifts, between A Street and Dominguez Street, as crews adjust manholes and pedestrian fencing.
- North Ninth Avenue (State Road (S.R.) 289) Carpenters Creek Bridge Replacement – All travel lanes are temporarily shifted to the southbound side of the bridge as crews construct the northbound portion. Additionally, drivers may encounter intermittent temporary lane closures Monday, Aug. 15 through Friday, Aug. 19 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. as crews mobilize materials and equipment.
- Pace Boulevard from Barrancas Avenue to Massachusetts Avenue – Pedestrians will encounter alternating sidewalk closures on Pace Boulevard, between Barrancas Avenue and North Palafox Street (U.S. 29), as crews perform sidewalk and curb improvements. Pedestrians will be detoured to the signalized intersections to access sidewalks on the opposite side of Pace Boulevard during this time.
- Pensacola Boulevard (U.S. 29) from Brent Lane to North of I-10 – Drivers will encounter alternating lane closures Sunday, Aug. 14 through Thursday, Aug. 18 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. for paving operations.
- I-10 at the Interstate 110 (I-110) Interchange – Drivers will encounter alternating lane closures Sunday, Aug. 14 through Thursday, Aug. 18 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. as crews clean the roadway and place high friction surface treatments on the following ramps:
- Davis Highway ramp to I-110 southbound.
- I-110 northbound ramp to I-10 eastbound.
- I-10 eastbound ramp to I-110 southbound.
- Sorrento Road (S.R. 292) Intersection Improvements at Innerarity Point (County Road 292A) – Motorists can expect intermittent daytime shoulder closures Monday, Aug. 15 through Friday, Aug. 19 for placement of a watermain.
- Sorrento Road Resurfacing from the Theo Baars Bridge to Bauer Road – Drivers will encounter alternating lane closures Monday, Aug. 15 through Friday, Aug. 19 from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. The closures will allow crews to place base material for construction of new paved shoulders
- Cervantes Street Routine Maintenance at Barcelona Street – Motorists will encounter intermittent lane closures Tuesday, Aug. 11 from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. for a routine bridge maintenance.
Santa Rosa County:
- Pensacola Bay Bridge (U.S. 98) Replacement – Drivers will encounter alternating lane closures and lane shifts Sunday, Aug. 14 through Saturday, Aug. 20 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. On Tuesday, Aug. 16, U.S. 98 westbound (Gulf Breeze to Pensacola) will have lane closures beginning at 10 p.m. due to Bands on the Beach. Crews will be using lanes on the current bridge as a platform to pour concrete decks for the westbound (Gulf Breeze to Pensacola) structure.
- U.S. 98 Widening from Bayshore Road to Portside Drive – Motorists will encounter the following traffic impacts:
- Median and turn-lane closures from Bayshore Road to Tiger Point Drive.
- Intermittent lane closures and additional median closures between S.R. 281 and Bayshore Road, Sunday, Aug. 14 through Friday, Aug. 19 from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. for paving operations.
- Beginning the week of Monday, Aug. 15, Settlers Colony Boulevard will be closed to complete necessary drainage improvements. This closure will remain in effect for 30 days. Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians will access Settlers Colony Boulevard via Venetian Way and Coronado Drive. Detour signs will be in place. Residents may experience noise, vibrations, and dust during daytime hours as part of this drainage improvement effort.
- I-10 Resurfacing East of S.R. 281 (Avalon Boulevard) to East of S.R. 87 – Motorists can expect intermittent nighttime and daytime lane closures the week of Monday, Aug. 15 for construction activities.
All activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.
Century To Hold Budget Workshop

The Century Town Council will hold a workshop this week on the town’s proposed budget for the 2022-2023 fiscal year that begins October 1.
According to the town’s accountant, the proposed budget projects $51,000 more in income than expenses.
The council had their first look at the budget on August 8. This Thursday, August 18 at 7 p.m., the council will hold their second budget workshop

Escambia County Building Services To Host ‘Protect Your Project’ Workshop On August 25

Escambia County Building Services will host a “Protect Your Project” workshop on August 25.
The workshop is open to the public and will cover several topics to help citizens make informed decisions when deciding to hire a contractor or handle a project themselves.
During the workshop, attendees will learn about contractor requirements, verification of licensure, how to file a complaint against a contractor and more. Escambia County Director of Building Services Tim Tolber will give a presentation followed by a question-and-answer session. Stephan Moorhead, Board Certified Real Estate Lawyer with Moorhead Law Group, will discuss construction contracts from a consumer’s perspective, liens and how citizens can protect themselves if they receive a Notice to Owner. Personnel from the Department of Business and Professional Regulation and City of Pensacola Building Inspections will also be in attendance.
The program will be held from 5-7 p.m. on August 25 at the Escambia County Central Office Complex, 3363 West Park Place, room 104.
2022 Extension Farm Field Day To Be Held August 25

The 2022 Extension Farm Field Day will be held at the West Florida Research and Education Center in Jay on Thursday, August 25.
The event will begin with registration at 7:30 a.m. and end with a 75th Anniversary Luncheon onsite. CEU sign-in will be available during the registration process at 7:30 a.m., and field tours will start promptly at 8 a.m.
The Field Tour will include six field stops. Topics to be addressed include nutrient, insect, disease, and weed management, and variety updates for row crops. This event has been approved for two category CEU’s and one core CEU for managing pesticide leaching, drift, and runoff.

Conine Blasts Two Homers As Blue Wahoos Cruise To 10-2 Win

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos put together a team effort on “Do-It-Yourself Jersey Night,” defeating the Birmingham Barons 10-2 in front of a sellout crowd on Saturday.
Griffin Conine hit a pair of home runs, Will Banfield hit his first at the Double-A level, and Cobie Fletcher-Vance went 4-for-5 for Pensacola’s most lopsided win in more than two months.
Birmingham’s Jose Rodriguez blasted the first pitch of the game for a solo homer to put the Barons ahead 1-0, but Pensacola starter Patrick Monteverde settled in from there. The lefty allowed two runs over 4.2 innings, striking out seven in his second Double-A start.
Conine answered back immediately in the bottom of the first with his 18th home run of the season against Barons starter Garrett Davila (L, 5-4) to give the Blue Wahoos a 2-1 edge. A Banfield sacrifice fly in the third stretched the Pensacola lead to 3-1.
J.J. Muno hit an RBI single against Monteverde in the fifth to draw the Barons to within a run, but Justin Evans (W, 1-0) entered in relief to prevent further damage. Evans retired all seven men he faced, and Conine’s second homer of the night in the bottom of the fifth stretched the Pensacola advantage back to a pair of runs at 4-2.
Pensacola broke the game open in the seventh inning, scoring six runs on only three hits to take a 10-2 lead that would hold for the final score. Banfield launched a two-run homer, a pair of runs scored on a throwing error from Rodriguez, and Fletcher-Vance capped his four-hit night with a two-run single.
The Birmingham bats were kept completely quiet for the back half of the ballgame, as Evans and Josh Simpson combined to retire all 13 men they faced. Thomas Jones contributed defensively, robbing Oscar Colas of a home run with a leaping catch at the center field wall in the sixth.
The Blue Wahoos wrap up their series against the Barons on Sunday.

UPDATE: ECSO Locates Missing, Endangered Adult Female

UPDATE: This missing and endangered adult has been safely located.
Previous story:
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a missing and endangered adult female.
ECSO said Saturday afternoon that 30-year old Deborah Leigh Troyer was last seen about 3:45 Thursday afternoon in the 1200 block of Greenbrier Boulevard.
She is 5-feet, 5-inches tall, 165 pounds with blonde hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and dark shorts pushing a dark colored stroller (pictured). There was not a child in the stroller.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 436-9620.

Early Voting Opens In Escambia County

Early voting for the 2022 Primary Election in Escambia County continues through Saturday, August 20 at 10 locations throughout the county.
Those locations open daily are:
- Billy G. Ward Courthouse, 7500 N. Century Boulevard, Century (9 a.m. – 6 p.m.)
- Molino Community Center, 6450-A Highway 95A, Molino (9 a.m. – 6 p.m.)
- Escambia County Extension, 3740 Stefani Road, Cantonment (9 a.m. – 6 p.m.)
- Pensacola Interstate Fairgrounds, 6655 Mobile Highway (9 a.m. – 6 p.m.)
- UWF Center for Fine and Performing Arts, Building 82, University Parkway (9 a.m. – 6 p.m.)

Cantonment Five-Time Convicted Felon Arrested On Drug And Weapons Charges

A Cantonment man is facing multiple felony charges after being caught with drugs and a weapon as deputies tried to arrest him on an outstanding warrant.
Mako Christopher Pert, 35, was charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, fleeing and eluding and driving with a suspended license.
Deputies from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Gun Crimes Unit and Warrants Unit spotted Pert on Pen Haven Drive. A vehicle takedown was conducted and Pert was detained.
Deputies observed a pistol in plain view on the floorboard behind the front passenger seat, according to an arrest report. A clear plastic bag containing 21 grams of methamphetamine was located in the center console, $600 in cash was located in his left front pocket and empty clear baggies were in his right pocket. A digital scale and a gun holster were also located.
On July 29, Pert fled from deputies at a high rate of speed when they attempted to stop his vehicle, according to a second report, and a warrant was issued.
Pert is a five-time convicted felon, according to the ECSO. He remained in the Escambia County Jail with bond set at $127,000.
FWC Law Enforcement Report: Fishing And Boating Violations

The Florida FWC Division of Law Enforcement reported the following recent activity:
ESCAMBIA COUNTY
Officers Cushing, Land and Bower were patrolling both state and federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Several miles away they observed an Alabama charter vessel in Florida state waters holding in the same location consistent with bottom fishing. Upon approach, the vessel turned in a different direction. When officers contacted the captain, he stated that he was having generator issues. The officers determined that there was red snapper on board during the closed season. They also determined that the passengers on board were fishing at that location. Further investigation and interviews revealed that the captain directed the deckhand to throw a fishing rod overboard to attempt to prevent the officers from realizing they were actively fishing. The captain was cited for the violation.
Officers Land and Cushing were on patrol in state waters of the Gulf of Mexico south of Pensacola working a detail targeting illegal red snapper harvest. Throughout their four days of patrolling, Officers Land and Cushing issued eight resource citations. Seven were for closed season red snapper and one to an Alabama charter captain that was actively fishing in Florida state waters without a Florida charter license.
Officers Cushing, Land and Bower were patrolling both state and federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico. They conducted several resource inspections south of Pensacola and located individuals in possession of red snapper during closed season. Citations were issued to persons on board two of the vessels for being in possession of red snapper.
Officer Cushing conducted a marine resource inspection of a vessel returning to the boat ramp. Officer Cushing questioned the fisherman and he stated that he had one small redfish. The officer asked him what the size limit was, and the fisherman stated 17 inches to 27-inch slot limit. Officer Cushing asked how big his fish was and the individual responded, “26 inches”. An inspection of the fish and measurement revealed the fish to be 34.5 inches. A citation was issued for the violation.
SANTA ROSA COUNTY
Officer Corbin received a complaint of a derelict vessel in Maquis Bayou. Officer Corbin located the vessel, and it was approximately 30 percent sunk and sitting on bottom. The vessel was previously tied off to the shoreline and appeared abandoned. Officer Corbin located the registered owner of the vessel, who was unaware his vessel had sunk and had not been checking on his vessel for some time. The registered owner has no means to remove the vessel and was issued a notice to appear citation for storing a derelict vessel on state waters. The registered owner was also cited for the vessel having expired registration, over 6 months, and warned for failure to update the address on the vessel registration.
Officer Corbin was on patrol at Shoreline boat ramp when he observed a subject operating a personal watercraft (PWC) carelessly around other vessels and in a congested area. The operator retuned to the boat ramp and pulled the vessel from the water. The operator had difficulty backing the trailer down the boat ramp and was not wearing a life jacket while operating the PWC. Officer Corbin contacted the operator and conducted a boating safety inspection. Throughout the inspection the operator’s movements were slow, he could not remember where he had placed items, he had bloodshot and watery eyes, and a moderate odor of alcohol coming from his breath. During the inspection the operator advised he had medical marijuana on board and had smoked marijuana within the hour. The operator provided a plastic tube containing marijuana that was not sealed nor labeled as medical marijuana. The operator agreed to conduct Standard Field Sobriety Tasks (SFST) and showed numerous clues of impairment throughout the tasks. The operator was placed under arrest for Boating Under the Influence (BUI). The operator was charged with operating a vessel with an unlawful breath alcohol level, possession of marijuana under 20 grams, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The operator was also cited for careless operation and not wearing a life jacket while operating a PWC.
