One Airlifted After Two-Vehicle Crash On Highway 97 In Davisville

One person was airlifted to the hospital following a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon on Highway 97 in Davisville.

The crash occurred about 1:40 p.m. on Highway 97 at Nokomis Road, at the Marathon gas station.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a 16-year-old female from Flomaton turned her pickup truck left directly in front of a southbound SUV driven by a 66-year-old Atmore woman.

The crash involved a Chevrolet Silverado and a Kia Sorento. A passenger in the Kia, a 67-year-old Atmore man was extricated by firefighters and flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.

The drivers of the vehicles were not injured. A dog that was secured in a carrier in the bed of the pickup truck was not injured.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.

The Walnut Hill and McDavid stations of Escambia County Fire Rescue, Atmore Fire Department, Newman’s Ambulance, and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office responded.

Fire Destroys Mobile Home Near Century Sunday Night

December 29, 2025

Fire destroyed a mobile home south of Century Sunday night, and the cause is under investigation.

The fire was reported shortly before 9 p.m. in the 5000 block of North Century Boulevard, just south of Elsie Davis Road.

Heavy flames were showing from the mobile home when firefighters arrived on the scene. The homeowner was able to escape the home without injury.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

The Century, McDavid, Molino and Walnut Hill stations of Escambia Fire Rescue responded, along with the Jay and Flomaton fire departments, Escambia County EMS and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

Chick-fil-A Files Updated Plans to Relocate East Nine Mile Road Location

As Chick-fil-A on East Nine Mile Road prepares to relocate nearly across the street to a new building, updated plans have been filed with Escambia County.

Chick-fil-A at 1757 East Nine Mile Road has submitted plans to construct a new restaurant on the site of the former Dodge’s. The Dodge’s Southern Style convenience store on East Nine Mile Road closed abruptly in early September 2024.

Plans for the restaurant were first filed with the Escambia County Development Review Committee (DRC) in early 2025. In December 2025, updated plans were filed with the DRC. The new plans show a slightly larger building and a reconfiguration of planned parking.

Chick-fil-A plans to demolish the existing convenience store and construct a new 5,249-square-foot restaurant on 1.8 acres. The new location will feature dual drive-thru lanes to increase vehicle stacking capacity.

The proposal is in the internal review stage with the DRC and is not yet set for a public hearing.

Elected Officials To Hold District 5 Q&A Session Next Week

December 29, 2025

Residents of District 5 will have a direct line to their local leadership next week as ECUA District 5 Representative Kevin Stephens hosts a constituent Q&A session.

The event is scheduled for Tuesday, January 6, from 5-7 p.m. at the Molino Community Center at 6450-A North Highway 95A.

According to organizers, Stephens will be joined by other elected officials to meet with the public. The session is designed to give District 5 residents an opportunity to get direct assistance and connect with their Escambia County representatives regarding local issues and services.

Work Truck Destroyed by Fire Near Walnut Hill; Equipment Saved

Fire destroyed a pickup truck on South Highway 99 near Walnut Hill Sunday night.

The driver of the Ford F350 was able to pull to the side of the road on South Highway 99 just south of Lemon Road after the fire reportedly began in the engine compartment. The driver escaped the fire without injury.

The truck was a total loss, but firefighters were able to save a large air compressor and other equipment and tools in the bed of the truck.

The Walnut Hill and Molino Stations of Escambia County Fire Rescue responded.

Need To Get Rid Of A Christmas Tree? You Can Recycle It With ECUA

The Emerald Coast Utilities Authority (ECUA) will pick up real Christmas trees from customers for free with the regular collection of yard waste.

Customers are asked to remove all decorations from their trees and cut the trees so that no portion is longer than six feet. Trees can be placed at the curb with other yard trash, and should not be placed in the regular garbage or recycling containers.

ECUA will compost the trees with the other yard waste at the Biosolids Composting Facility.

Cantonment Man Charged As ‘Super Speeder’ For 124 MPH Street Racing On I-110

A 19-year-old Cantonment man was arrested recently under Florida “super speeder” law after allegedly being clocked at 124 mph on I-10 in Escambia County.

Aden Michael Lewis was charged with operating a vehicle exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 mph.

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was monitoring northbound traffic on I-110 just south of Fairfield Drive and observed two vehicles approaching at a high rate of speed that appeared to street racing, according to an arrest report. As the 2003 Nissan 350Z driven by Lewis overtook the other vehicle, the trooper clocked the vehicle at 124 mph in the posted 65 mph zone.

Lewis told the trooper that the was enticed by a Blue BMW to race, the report states.

The trooper described the incident at “wanton disregard to the motoring public” in the arrest report.

FDC: Century Inmate Serving Life For Murder Assaults Correctional Officer

December 28, 2025

A Century Correctional Institution inmate serving life for murder assaulted a correctional officer recently, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.

Kevin Johnson, 42, assaulted a correctional officer by striking the officer, according to FDC. The officer was not injured during the alleged assault.

Johnson was serving a life sentence out of Gadsden County on a 2010 conviction for first degree murder, plus 30-year sentences for carjacking and aggravated battery on a person 65 or older.
