Operation Christmas Child Collections This Week At Highland Baptist, First Baptist Bratt

Highland Baptist Church in Molino and the First Baptist Church of Bratt are Operation Christmas Child collection sites.
The collection continue through Monday, November 21.
Churches can drop off their OCC boxes during the times below for them to be packed for processing.

Operation Christmas Child has been collecting and delivering shoebox gifts—filled with school supplies, hygiene items and fun toys—to children worldwide since 1993. Anyone can pack a shoebox! In 2022, Operation Christmas Child hopes to collect enough shoeboxes to reach another 11 million children.

Schools across the North Escambia area honored veterans this week.
Bratt Elementary held a veterans parade and presented a special musical. During the program, Army Staff Sergeant Andrew Bolen was interviewed by his nephew Levi Bolen.
Pine Meadow Elementary School honored veterans with a parade, speakers, music, a Wall of Heroes, and breakfast.
At Jim Allen Elementary School, students drew pictures to honor veterans.

Ernest Ward Middle Honors Veterans (With Photo Gallery)

Ernest Ward Middle School in Walnut Hill paused to honor veterans from across the area Thursday morning.
The program featured the Presentation of Colors from the Northview High School NJROTC Color Guard, a moment of silence and the Pledge of Allegiance from the Ernest Ward SGA, patriotic music from the EWMS Band and others, a live human video from the EWMS Drama Club and more. Guest speaker was EWMS teacher and retired Navy Yeoman 2nd Class Stephen B. Dillard.
The annual Veterans Day program at Ernest Ward is a longstanding community tradition, held annually (except 2020) for over 25 years.

Ernest Ward Middle’s Tyvanna Boulanger Named County’s Assistant Principal Of The Year

Ernest Ward Middle School Assistant Principal Tyvanna Boulanger has been named the Escambia County Public School’s Assistant Principal of the Year.
The announcement was made this week at the school; she will be recognized at a school board meeting later this month.
Navy Point Elementary School Principal Dr. Monica Ford-Harris was named the district’s Principal of the Year.

Employee Work Day Preps Ascend Park For New Playground Equipment
November 10, 2022
The original playground equipment has been removed from Ascend Park, and employees held a work day to clean, paint and repair areas around the park.
Entirely new playground equipment is still on track for December; NorthEscambia.com will let readers know when the park is set for reopening.
The park on Old Chemstrand Road closed after it was damaged by Hurricane Sally back in 2020.
The playground renovations are being paid for by funds from the Ascend Cares Foundation and the Ascend Performance Materials Pensacola site.

Season Of Giving: Faith Bible Church Supports Byrneville Elementary Staff

Teacher and staff at Byrneville Elementary School had a little surprise when they arrived at work Wednesday morning.
Faith Bible Church delivered gifts bags and snacks to the school.
The items were accompanied by a note: “To start the season of giving – We appreciate all you do. We love and pray for you.”

Inez Chancery of McDavid Celebrates Her 100th Birthday

Inez Chancery of McDavid is celebrating her 100th birthday.
She has five children, eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Her birthday is Tuesday, but friends and family celebrated with her Saturday afternoon at Grace Baptist Church.

International Paper Awards $20,000 To UWF Community Garden

The International Paper Pensacola Mill has awarded the University of West Florida a $20,000 capital grant from the International Paper Foundation. The grant funding will be used to support the UWF Community Garden master plan in extending pathway lighting throughout the garden and into the gazebo.
“Together, International Paper and UWF are living up to our shared values of sustainability and community engagement,” said Dr. Greg Tomso, vice president for the Division of Academic Engagement and Student Affairs, faculty garden director and garden founder. “Through our ongoing partnership, we are building a legacy that will be enjoyed by our community for generations to come. We are very grateful for International Paper’s generosity and stewardship in making this project so successful.”
Bringing light to the garden at night will make the garden safe for visitors during evening events and allow use of the garden for evening classes, community meetings, concerts and other events that require a safe, well-lit environment.
“The University of West Florida continues to work toward building a sustainable and health conscious community and we appreciate the opportunity to contribute to UWF’s involvement in Pensacola,” said Scott Taylor, International Paper Pensacola Mill manager.
International Paper Foundation has supported University of West Florida Community Garden and their Edible Campus initiatives with more than $70,000 in grant funding since 2016.
With the help of International Paper, UWF staff, students and volunteers have transformed the UWF campus into a hub of sustainable food production and native plant habitats and accomplished the follow major goals:
Completed main vegetable growing areas at the community garden
Planted hundreds of new fruit trees and edible plants on campus
Completed construction and installation of grape arbor
Installed a new tea garden
Replenished growing beds several times with organic mushroom compost
Expanded irrigation to many areas of the garden
“Investing in our community is part of the IP Way, which is doing the right things, in the right ways, for the right reasons, all of the time,” said Whitney Fike, International Paper communications manager. “We are proud to support the University of West Florida as they make a positive impact within our community through International Paper signature causes of education, hunger, and health and wellness.”
