Escambia County Supervisor of Elections Robert Bender has announced several polling place location changes for the 2026 elections.

Voters in the following precincts will be mailed a notice of Permanent Polling Location Change and a new Voter Information Card for the following locations:

Century Kids’ College Students Learn About Government, Share Ideas For The Future

Participants from the Century Kids’ College at Pensacola State College visited Century Town Hall on Tuesday to learn more about how local government works.
The students met with council members John Bass and Sparkie Harrison, and Town Clerk Carrie Moore.
The children said their favorite town-related activities include the parks and splash pad, and many attended the July 3 fireworks sponsored in part by the town.
As for the future, they agreed that Century needs a pool and a place for video gaming.

Update: Jay Operations Manager Suspended Following Sex Offender Violation Arrest

Following her arrest on a sex offender violation charge, the Town of Jay’s operations manager has been suspended with pay.
April Burford Watson, 50, was booked into the Santa Rosa County Jail at approximately 10:47 a.m. on Monday. She is charged with a felony sex offender violation for failure to register as required. She was released from jail late Tuesday night on a $2,500 bond.
At the regularly scheduled Jay Town Council meeting Monday night, she was suspended without pay.
According to a statement from Town Clerk Donna Bullock: “The Town of Jay is aware that April Watson was arrested on July 20, 2026. At this time, the Town has limited information about the charges against Ms. Watson or any of the facts and circumstances which led to this arrest. The Town recognizes that any information represents only one side of any story and does not necessarily indicate that the individual charged is guilty. As such, the Town of Jay owes it to all involved to act deliberately with full knowledge of the facts and with fairness towards all.”
“The Town is currently working to gather information and will make a decision on how to proceed based on a thorough review of all the facts and circumstances. After a review is completed, the Council will determine what additional actions are needed,” the statement concluded.
Watson’s arrest was part of a morning sweep targeting registered sex offenders accused of violating state registration requirements. Early this year, she reportedly spent a week beginning May 29 at an RV park in Milton without reporting it as a temporary address as required by Florida’s sex offender laws.
Until Monday, Watson served as the operations manager for the Town of Jay. Earlier this month, she was under consideration to become the next town manager. However, the town council opted on July 7 not to fill the position.
Watson’s requirement to register as a sexual offender stems from an August 2009 arrest. At the time, Watson and another former Jay High School teacher were charged with engaging in unlawful sexual activity with three 17-year-old male students during July and October of 2007.
In April 2010, Watson was found guilty on three counts of unlawful sexual activity with certain minors. She was sentenced to 15 months in state prison, serving one year behind bars. Her sentence was followed by 18 months of community control and five years of probation, along with a lifelong requirement to register as a sexual offender under Florida law.
Blue Wahoos, Clingstones Postponed By Tropical Storm Bertha

Tuesday’s game at Blue Wahoos Stadium between the Pensacola Blue Wahoos and Columbus Clingstones was postponed due to high winds associated with Tropical Storm Bertha. The decision was made in collaboration with Major League Baseball officials out of consideration for player and fan safety.
The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Thursday, July 23, with a pair of seven-inning games beginning at 4:05 p.m. CT. Game two will begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
Fans planning to attend Tuesday’s postponed game can exchange their tickets for a future 2026 regular season home game of equal or lesser value at the Blue Wahoos Stadium ticket office. As stated on tickets, no refunds will be given.
Fans with tickets to Thursday’s regularly scheduled game will gain admittance to both games in the doubleheader, in the seats they have been assigned.
Louie Eugene ‘Gene’ Findley

Mr. Louie Eugene “Gene” Findley, age 76, of Century, Florida, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Gene was born on December 1, 1949, in Century, Florida, to the late L.B. “Shorty” Findley and Jean Corum Findley. He spent most of his life in the Century community and worked in maintenance for Escambia County, where he made many lifelong friendships.
A faithful member of Poplar Dell Baptist Church for the past 27 years, Gene loved serving the Lord and helping others. He was known for his strong “vise-grip” hands, generous heart, and willingness to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on his tractor, gardening, grilling and cooking out, boating, watching Westerns and Fox News, and spending time in his shop visiting with friends. Gene also had a special love for animals and never hesitated to rescue one in need. Above all, Gene treasured his family. He shared 27 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sharon Cooper Findley. His greatest joy was his family, especially his granddaughter, McKayla, who lovingly knew him as “Papa Gene.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, L.B. “Shorty” Findley and Jean Gorum Findley.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Cooper Findley of Century, Florida; his daughter, McKayla Courington (Hayden) of Spanish Fort, Alabama; his stepdaughter, Heather Freeman (Aubry) of New York, New York; two grandchildren, Cameron Kalfus of Chester, Georgia, and Hayden Ealy of Cantonment, Florida; along with numerous extended family members and many dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Petty Funeral Homes, with Rev. Mitch Herring and Rev. Bill Stuckey officiating.
Burial will follow at Poplar Dell Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Petty Funeral Homes.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Yoder, DC Odom, Jimmy Morris, Doug Phillips, John Medici, and Marc Martin.
Honorary Pallbearers will be John Cook, Danny Findley, David Findley, Judson Carden, Joe Garrett and Bobby Bailey.
Gene’s family leaves these simple words for all who knew him:

Patricia Jeanette Hutto, age 71, born in Century, FL and a resident of Bay Minette, AL died Saturday, July 18, 2026 at Diversicare in Foley. She was a retired probate clerk for the Baldwin County Probate Office.
She is survived by her aunt, Mary Martin of Seminole, AL; her cousin, Randy (Mary Margaret) Martin of Seminole, AL and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Beckie White Hutto; a brother, Paul Harice Hutto and a sister, Veronica Salazar.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 24, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel of Norris Funeral Home with Reverend Dalton Stuart and Dr. Henry Cox officiating. Burial will be at Pineview Cemetery at a later time.
The family will receive Friday, July 24, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service at Norris Funeral Home.

New I-10 Exit At Beulah Road, Hwy 29 Improvements, Other Projects For Escambia County

Hundreds of millions of dollars in infrastructure projects have been funded in the state budget signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis.
All total, Sen. Don Gaetz said Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties were approved for $370 million in state funds for 86 projects.
Gaetz said, “If we are going to serve our current population, grow, create jobs, attract industry and expand our military missions, building out our transportation infrastructure is job one. I’m grateful for the $370 million secured for this year’s projects and I’m committed to finding the billion dollars we need to complete our five-year work plan and meet our transportation priorities.”
North Escambia Transportation Projects
Some of the key projects for the North Escambia area include:
- A new interchange on I-10 at Beulah Road (concept drawing above), along with widening 3.1 miles of I-10 to six lanes and extending Beulah Road.
- Intersection improvements at Highway 29 and Highway 196 with safety improvements.
- Resurface North Century Boulevard (Highway 29) from Tedder Road to East Highway 4 in Century.
- Install two pedestrian crossings on North Century Boulevard (Highway 29) in Century.
- Widen all approaches at Beulah Road and Frank Reeder Road, including new turn lanes while extending the northbound right-turn lane on Beulah Road and adding a westbound right-turn lane on Frank Reeder Road.
- Replace the I-10 bridge over Pine Forest Road with an extended layout configured to support an upcoming three-lane road system.

Jay Operations Manager, Recent City Manager Contender Arrested On Sex Offender Violation

The Town of Jay’s operations manager—who was recently considered for the town manager position—was arrested Monday morning during a sex offender compliance sweep.
April Burford Watson, 50, was booked into the Santa Rosa County Jail at approximately 10:47 a.m. She is charged with a felony sex offender violation for failure to register as required. As of early Tuesday morning, she was being held without bond.
Watson’s arrest was reportedly part of a morning targeting registered sex offenders accused of violating state registration requirements.
Watson currently serves as the operations manager for the Town of Jay. Earlier this month, she was under consideration to become the next town manager. However, the town council opted on July 7 not to fill the position.
Watson’s requirement to register as a sexual offender stems from an August 2009 arrest. At the time, Watson and another former Jay High School teacher were charged with engaging in unlawful sexual activity with three 17-year-old male students during July and October of 2007.
In April 2010, Watson was found guilty on three counts of unlawful sexual activity with certain minors. She was sentenced to 15 months in state prison, serving one year behind bars. Her sentence was followed by 18 months of community control and five years of probation, along with a lifelong requirement to register as a sexual offender under Florida law.
