Belinda Christie (Perkins)

May 26, 2021

Belinda Christie (Perkins), 70, of Molino, Florida, suddenly passed on May 24, 2021. She was the first born child of 5 on September 19, 1950 to the late James R. Perkins and Maxine A. Booth.

Belinda was the first female police officer in Auburn, NH and subsequently retired after 25 years of service for the United States Post Office as a mail processing clerk. She enjoyed making quilts, walking the dogs, and especially spending time with her grandkids. As a child she traveled around the world as a military brat and her years spent as a lifeguard gave her a deeper appreciation of the water. She took the time to teach all the Nieces and Nephews how to swim – a lesson they will cherish for a lifetime. We share a poem to ease our pain:

“Look not where I was, for I am not there, My Spirit is free, I am everywhere. In the air that you breathe, In the sounds that you hear, please don’t cry for me now, my Spirit is near. I’ll watch for you from the other side, I’ll be the one running, new friends by my side. Smile at my memory, remember in your heart, this isn’t the end, it’s a brand new start.”

Belinda Christie is survived by her daughter, Karen (LeMire) Spencer and spouse Scott Spencer, her son James LeMire and spouse Rachel (Kiendle) LeMire, 5 grandchildren, her siblings, Cynthia Perkins, James Perkins and spouse Missy, preceded in death Robert Perkins, spouse Julie, Oneita Yuhasz and 8 nieces and nephews.

The family will host a private memorial celebration.

ECSO Deploys Speed-Checking Trailers That Use Technology To Battle Speeding

May 25, 2021

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office has new trailers that alert drivers to their speed while using technology to aid in the fight against speeders.

The trailers went into service after Sheriff Chip Simmons took office. They can be deployed to areas with known or citizen reported speed problems, according to Commander Andrew Hobbs.

Each of the 17 trailers display the speed of passing vehicles, complete with small flashing red and blue LED lights to attract driver attention, very much like similar equipment has done for years. But there’s more.

The units collect anonymous data on vehicle speeds, which Hobbs said allows the ECSO to work smarter.

“We can look at the statistics and average speed to determine what time to do traffic enforcement efforts,” he said.
