Betty Sherrer Jackson, 1927-2021, age 93. Lifetime resident of Myrtle Grove in Pensacola, Florida; peacefully reunited with the Lord on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. Born December 1, 1927 to Clarence H. Sherrer, and Mabel Adkinson Sherrer at the homestead in Myrtle Grove on 65th Avenue. Betty met, dated, and later married George M. Jackson on June 13, 1947. They raised two children, a daughter Marcia Jackson Gierisch and a son, George Douglas Jackson both of Pensacola. Betty attended Escambia County Schools, 1st through 12th grade, and then the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa 1945-1947. She returned home from Tuscaloosa, married George, and then raised a family. She decided to return to college at age 43 completing her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. She graduated from the University of West Florida, with Summa Cum Laude honors in 1973. Betty re-entered Escambia Public Schools in 1974, this time as an educator and teacher. She retired in 1988 with 14 years of service at West Pensacola Elementary in Myrtle Grove, Fl. Ms. Betty was not an idle woman during those years of marriage to George and rearing kids. She taught Kindergarten at Sunnyside on New Warrington Road until she and her sister, Anna Mary, purchased the name and built a new location at 719 North 63rd Avenue in Myrtle Grove. Sunnyside Kindergarten and Nursery School was a private kindergarten in Myrtle Grove opened 1960-1970. When Ms. Betty retired in 1988, she started painting and earned several ribbons and awards. She was a member of Quayside Gallery in Pensacola.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years George M. Jackson, both parents, a sister Anna Mary Sherrer Roberts, and two brothers Thomas and Hubert Sherrer. She is survived by sister in law Louise Jackson, her two children, Marcia Jackson Gierisch and George Douglas (Doug) Jackson, both of Pensacola. Four grandchildren, Tiffany Jackson Martin (Glenn), Nikki Gierisch, Megan Gierisch, George Franklin Jackson (Ruth Ellen). Three great grandchildren, Lily Abells, Jack Abells and George Ellis Jackson. There are numerous nieces and nephews of the Boone, Kee, Jackson and Roberts families.
Arrangements will be handled by Faith Chapel Funeral Home South. On Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Myrtle Grove United Methodist Church, 1030 North 57th Avenue (and Lillian Highway), Pensacola, Florida.
Visitation will begin at 2pm, with Celebration of Life at 3pm, followed with interment after the service at Myrtle Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. Following graveside committal, the family will receive guests at a reception in the church fellowship hall.

Malakai Alexander Marks

Malakai Alexander Marks was lovingly welcomed into the world on February 2, 2021. Four short months later, Malakai unexpectedly passed away on June 8, 2021. In his short life, he brought so much joy and love to all of those that knew him. His big “chinky” smile and bright blue eyes lit up the whole room and would put a smile on your face even in the worst of days. He was the happiest of little fellas but definitely would let you know when he was hangry. Heaven now has the most precious of little angels.
He is preceded in death by his angelbaby sibling, great-great grandparents, Donald F. Lewis, Sr. and Barbara L. Lewis; great-grandmother, Janice R. Honeycutt; several other great-great grandparents, great grandparents, great-aunts, great-uncles, and great-cousins.
He is survived by his Mommy (Brianna Marks); Daddy (Dalton Hartje); maternal grandparents, Mimi (Candice Marks) and Grumps (Tim Marks); paternal grandmother, Erika Hartje; great-grandparents, Dianna Bair, Harry L. Bair III, Paul and Helena Hartje; uncles, Tavarus Bair, Gregory Hartje, and Tyler Hartje; aunt, Hannah Olsen; cousins, Rosalie Olsen, Clarity Bair, Kailani Bair, Tegan Bair, Bellamy Bair; godparents, Daniel Abdelwahed and Cherokee Selwyn; several great-aunts, great-uncles, and great-cousins.
Visitation will be held on June 13, 2021, beginning at 12:00 p.m. for family and 1:00 p.m. for friends. The service/celebration of life will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Chapel North funeral home located at 1000 S. Highway 29, Cantonment, Florida 32533. Services to be officiated by Mike Rollwagen.

Blue Wahoos Offense Sputters In 6-1 Loss At Chattanooga

The Blue Wahoos offense sputtered again for the Wahoos as they fell 6-1 to the Lookouts on Saturday night at AT&T Field.
In another highly anticipated pitching matchup, neither starter turned in the performance many expected.
Jake Eder (L, 1-2) battled with his command early in his start and was tagged with a pair of runs in the first inning. Chattanooga would add another run in the second inning to make it 3-0. Eder finished the night with six innings pitched and allowed four runs (3ER) with two walks and five strikeouts. He tied his career-high with 88 pitches.
Eder—who entered today’s start with the lowest ERA in the Double-A South—now has an ERA of 1.26, which is the second-lowest in the league.
Chattanooga starter Nick Lodolo looked poised to turn a solid inning up until an injury derailed his outing. Lodolo had seven strikeouts 3.1 innings before a 2-1 slider to J.D. Osborne forced the former first round pick to exit the game due to injury.
After Lodolo left the game, the Lookouts used four different relievers to hold the Blue Wahoos to one run despite having 10 hits on the night. Pensacola went 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left 14 men on base.
Offensively, JJ Bleday led the way for the Wahoos tallying three hits on the night while Nick Fortes went 2-for-5. Pensacola avoided being shutout for the second night in a row courtesy of a sac fly to right field by Jerar Encarnacion in the top of the ninth inning.
The series concludes tomorrow afternoon before the Wahoos return home to Pensacola. LHP Brandon Leibrandt (1-3, 8.17) gets the green light for the Wahoos and he will be opposed by Randy Wynne (1-1, 6.14). First pitch is scheduled for 1:15 PM CT.

Donald Glenn Brock

Donald Glenn Brock passed away on June 10, 2021 in Pensacola, Florida. Donald was born in Cartersville, Georgia on June 24, 1928 to Jessie and Ida Brock. He joined the Army at the age of 17 and was a WWII veteran. Donald retired from AT&T after 36 years of service. He loved to camp, golf and square dance with the love of his life Lenora. Donald loved to meet his friends at Whataburger on Friday mornings and once a month he enjoyed going to the Biscuit & Gravy breakfast at the Ensley Lodge. He spent time transporting children to the Shriners Hospital and made over 60 trips. Donald was a long time member of Bellview Baptist Church.
Donald became a Master Mason in 1953 at the Oostanaula Lodge #113 in Rome, Georgia and was a charter member of the Hadji Shrine in Pensacola, Florida.
Donald is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Lenora Brock; mother and father; five brothers; and three sisters. He is survived by sons, Randy Brock (Diane) and David Brock (Deborah); grandchildren, Ryan Brock (Cathy), Dustin Brock (Debra) and Russell Brock (Stacy); great grandchildren, Megan, Erin, Amber, Hayley, Jaden, Michael, Myah, Macey Justin, Kaden, Rilee and Ash; and Special Lady Friend, Alice Burns.
Pallbearers are Ryan Brock, Dustin Brock, Russell Brock, Jaden Brock, Steve Dillard, James Wiggins, Kerry Dobbins and Bob Blaylock.
Visitation will be held on Mon. June 14, 2021 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South between 5:00 – 7:00 pm.
Services will be held on Tues. June 15, 2021 at Bellview Baptist Church, 4750 Saufley Field Road Pensacola, Florida 32526. Masonic Services to be observed. Youth Director Accused Of Hiding Camera In Church Bathroom Now Charged With Child Pornography Possession

The youth director arrested a week ago for allegedly recording people with a hidden camera in a church bathroom is now charged with possessing child porn.
Escambia County Sheriff’s Office investigators served a search warrant at the home of 37-year old David Patrick Nims located in the 7400 block of Hidden Valley Road after arresting him for video voyeurism.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office responded to Calvary Baptist Church on Pine Forest Road after a hidden video surveillance camera was located in a bathroom on June 7. Nims served as the volunteer youth director at the church.
Electronic devices which were seized during the search of Nims’ home, and a laptop containing more than 100 child pornography files discovered, according to the ECSO. Investigators said none of the child victims in the files appear to have a local connection but instead it appeared the images were downloaded from the internet.
Nims was charged with possession of child pornography, in addition to the original charge of second degree felony video voyeurism by a person 18 or older, who is responsible for the welfare of a child younger than 16. The ECSO said more charges could be added as Special Victims Unit investigators continue to analyze additional digital files.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said anyone that believes they may be a victim of Nims, or knows that someone that may be a victim, is asked to call them at (850) 436-9620.
Lane Closures This Week On Highway 29 Cantonment To Molino As Construction Nears Completion

The Florida Department of Transportation said drivers can expect possible delays Monday through Friday on Highway 29 between Molino and Cantonment.
FDOT said motorists will encounter intermittent day and night lane closures on Highway 29 front just south of Muscogee Road in Cantonment to Highway 97 in Molino. Contractors will be performing striping operations, signal work, and other miscellaneous items needed complete the project.

Pensacola Beach Fishing Pier Expected To Open In Two Weeks After Repairs

Temporary hurricane damage repairs on Pensacola Beach Fishing Pier will begin Monday, June 14. The repairs are expected to be completed within a couple of weeks.
“Public Works is working diligently to reopen the fishing pier at Casino Beach as soon as possible,” said Chairman and District 4 County Commissioner Robert Bender. “I am really looking forward to seeing anglers return to this recreational amenity on Pensacola Beach.”
After meeting onsite with FEMA representatives about Hurricane Sally damage, the county received approval to move forward with these temporary repairs. Escambia County is also working on receiving approval from DEP for temporary repairs to the walk overs at Park West.
Tax Collector to Resume Driving Skills Exams At Marcus Pointe Office

Driving tests for new drivers are transitioning back to the Escambia County Tax Collector’s Office at 6451 North W Street on June 21, according to Tax Collector Scott Lunsford.
Since April 2020, the tests have been administered at an outdoor range in downtown Pensacola in order to mitigate the risks of COVID-19 for the public and for staff.
For new drivers, an appointment is not required. The queue for driving tests will be open at the Marcus Pointe location from 8:00 a.m. until3:30 p.m. The virtual queue is available by choosing “Join the Line” at EscambiaTaxCollector.com. Once all available openings have been filled, the line will close for the day.
Driving tests resulting from a medical review or multiple crashes will be administered at the Warrington office, located at 4051 Barrancas Avenue, Suite A. Driving exams for medical reviews or multiple crashes will require an appointment. To schedule an appointment for a medical or crash related driving test, email ectc@EscambiaTaxCollector.com.
