There were 134 additional COVID-19 cases reported Saturday in Escambia County by the Florida Department of Health.

Pedestrian Struck And Killed By Two Vehicles On Highway 29 At West Roberts
November 14, 2020
A 29-year old Pensacola man was killed when he was struck by two vehicles Friday night on Highway 29 at West Roberts Road.
The Florida Highway Patrol said both vehicles were northbound on Highway 29 in the outside lane as the pedestrian was walking from the shoulder into the roadway at 6:36 p.m. Troopers said he walked into the path of a SUV driven by a 50-year old Brewton man. The pedestrian was then hit by a box truck driven by a 23-year old Cantonment man.
The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by Escambia County EMS. The two drivers were not injured.
The Florida Highway Patrol no longer releases the names of traffic crash victims.

Northview Gets Exciting 32-12 Playoff Win Over Chipley (With Photo Gallery)

The Northview Chiefs beat the Chipley Tigers 32-12 Friday night in the 1A regional quarterfinals.
Just two weeks ago, Northview handily beat Chipley 45-13.
After scoreless first quarter Friday night at Tommy Weaver Memorial Stadium in Bratt, sophomore Kaden Odom scrambled on a quarterback keeper for a touchdown to put the Chiefs on the scoreboard first at 7-0 with 9:55 remaining in the second.
After a Chipley score, senior standout Jayden Jackson stepped in as QB and scored from 67-yards out to put Northview back on top 13-6.
With 1:07 to go in the half, the Chiefs snapped to Jackson again, and he was in from six yards out to make it 19-6. Jackson added another touchdown with 6:12 to go in the third, 26-6.
First year Northview High School head coach Wes Summerford stepped up to his team after the game and opened with “I’m excited”.
“I’m excited about the way they responded in the second half, you know had a little slower start which was kind of unusual as a late, but I loved the way they responded,” Summerford told NorthEscambia.com after the win. “I’m excited for these guys. I preached all week about the playoffs. I said you stick together, and you play together anything can happen.”
The Chiefs (7-1) will host the Vernon Yellowjackets (5-1) next Friday night at 7:30 in the regional semifinals. Summerford said he believes his team is ready, with just a little fine tuning needed to prepare.
“I think that we have a good defensive game and our offense has been rolling is it,” Summerford said. “We are just gonna touch up on the little things. We are always going to do what we do, but we’re gonna touch up on the fundamentals.”
The Northview Chiefs are in a unique position if they roll on with the wins. They will play the next three playoff games at home before the state championship game on December 12 in Tallahassee.

Garcon Point Toll Suspended Another 30 Days As Pensacola Bay Bridge Repairs Continue

The toll on the Garcon Point Bridge has been extended another 30 days until Sunday, December 13.
The extension allows the Garcon Point Bridge to continue serving as a temporary detour route while the Pensacola Bay Bridge is being repaired from damage sustained during Hurricane Sally.
Meanwhile, repairs are continuing on the Pensacola Bay Bridge, which was damaged by barges belonging to bridge contractor Skanska during Hurricane Sally.
Three bridge contractors mobilized by FDOT are working around the clock, focusing their efforts at the outermost spans of the bridge to facilitate construction and minimize impacts to the existing structure. To date, more than 300 additional workers have been brought in to increase resources for demolition and reconstruction, salvage and pile operations, and concrete fabrication.
FDOT has approved multiple construction design plans and is reviewing additional design plans for the permanent repairs that address the reconstruction of spans for the bridge and reestablishment of four lanes of traffic on the bridge at the same condition as expected for new construction. The fabrication of multiple concrete piles, piers, and beams continues in preparation for reconstruction. The inventory of concrete piles and beams continues to increase with production coming from the Pensacola precast yard and a facility in Tampa.
Reminder: Saturday Is The Last Day To Register In Person For FEMA Hurricane Sally Help

FEMA mobile registration centers in Escambia County will close permanently at 5 p.m. Saturday.
The State of Florida and FEMA have determined that these centers have satisfied the need for helping Hurricane Sally survivors in the area register for disaster assistance. The centers are located at:
Escambia County Equestrian Center 7750 Mobile Hwy
Brownsville Community Center 320 W. DeSoto St.
Lexington Terrace Community Center 700 S. Old Corry Field Rd
Each center is open 9 a.. until 5 p.m. and offers document scanning.
The centers operate under COVID-19 protocols to ensure visitors and FEMA personnel are safe. Distancing and face coverings are required.
It is not necessary to visit a center to register with FEMA. Disaster survivors with uninsured losses can also apply by:
- Visiting DisasterAssistance.gov;
- Downloading the FEMA App; or by
- Calling 800-621-3362 (800-462-7585 TTY). Multilingual operators are available. The toll-free numbers are open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time, seven days a week. Those who use a relay service such as a videophone, InnoCaption or CapTel should provide FEMA with their specific phone number assigned to that service.
The deadline to register is December 1, 2020.
Escambia Academy Headed to AISA Class 2A Championship After Win Over Macon East

The Escambia Academy Cougars area headed to the AISA Class 2A championship game after a 54-13 win over the Macon East Cougars Friday night in Canoe.
It will be the fifth consecutive state championship game for the Cougars (9-1).
The Knights jumped out to any early 7-0 lead, but the Cougars answered on the next play from scrimmage with a 66-yard touchdown run from Landon Sims.
Tyler Ray-Cloud forced a fumble, and it was picked up by Caleb Davis for a 74-yard touchdown to put the Cougars on top 13-7. With a 39-yard TD run from Bubba Nettles, the Cougars expanded their advantage to 21-7 on their way to the win.
The Cougars will take one Chambers in the state championship game at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.
