Fred Carlton Ward, Jr.

Fred Carlton Ward, Jr., age 58, passed away on June 1, 2026, in Atmore, Alabama, where he lived most of his life. He was of the Holiness faith; and a member of Friendly Holiness Church. He was an avid Florida State Seminoles supporter and had a passion for dirt track racing. He cherished moments spent with family and friends, loved dancing, coaching children’s sports, and was always known for his humor and lively spirit. Professionally, he built homes through his work in construction.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brother Tommy and sister Phyllis Ward.

He leaves behind three daughters: Chelsea Ward (Christopher Raines) of Houston, Texas; Kristie Ward of Texas; and Brittney Christine Ward. He is also survived by three brothers—Ray (Christine) Ward and Randall (Janet) Ward, both of Poarch, Alabama, and Carl (Melissa) Ward of Atmore—and two sisters, Tena (David) Bryars of Bay Minette, Alabama, and Juanita Fears of Poarch, Alabama. His legacy continues through numerous grandchildren, step-children, nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 5, 2026, at noon at Friendly Holiness Church, with Reverend Ray Ward and Reverend David Bryars officiating.

Burial will follow at New Home Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 5, 2026 from 11 a.m. until service time at noon at Friendly Holiness Church.

Pallbearers will be Kendall Reed, Heath Bryars, Jonathan Bryars, Tyler Hilburn, Dylan McGhee and Jamie Barber.

Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Richard.

B. Wayne Dunn

B. Wayne Dunn, current resident of Logan Martin Lake, Talladega County, Alabama, passed away at home on Thursday, May 28, 2026. He had battled cancer for over 3 years.

He was born on July 28, 1948, in the Fackler community in Jackson County, Alabama, and attended school at Pisgah, Alabama, and graduated in 1966. He attended North Florida College on a basketball scholarship and, 2 years later, transferred to Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL, on a basketball scholarship, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in accounting. He then attended Auburn University to further his accounting studies before sitting for the CPA exam. After marriage, he became a Board-Certified Jeweler and attended the Holland School to complete his certification.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Frances Earle Dunn, his two daughters, Kristie D. Dieguez and husband, Dr. Rogelio Dieguez, and Tracy D. Murphy, living in Birmingham, AL., one sister Peayleen D. Pope of Chattanooga, TN., and husband, James Pope; 6 grandchildren, Dr. Ashley Dieguez Lynn and husband Caleb, of Panama City, FL., Alex T. Dieguez of Charleston, S.C., Axel J. Dieguez of Auburn, AL., Grayson O. Murphy, Gabe Gentry Murphy, and Georgia Margarette Murphy, all of Helena (Birmingham), AL. Wayne is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and several great nephews and nieces.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and “Dessie” Dunn of Pisgah, AL., a sister, Mary Ruth Stills of Fackler, AL., a brother, Cecil E. Dunn, his niece, Karen D. Hardy, and sister-in-law, Juanita Crye Dunn of Rome, GA.

Mr. Dunn was a 40-year resident of Atmore, AL, and he and his wife owned Earle’s Jewelers and later owned Jasmine Place Bridal and formal wear on North Main Street.

He loved sports, was an avid Alabama fan, a patriot, an avid hunter, and loved fishing and golf. He and his wife loved their friends, their business life, their community, and their church family at First United Methodist Church in Atmore, AL.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore, AL, with Rev. Ron Headley of Brewton, AL. officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be members of the family.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, from 10-11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Atmore will always be home to the Dunn’s.

Rebecca Kay Schachle

Rebecca Kay Schachle, born on April 25, 1951, in Monticello, Minnesota to Lonza and Dorothy Sherouse, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with Dementia.

Becky lived a life filled with adventure, love, laughter, and deep devotion to those around her. She spent many years living in Alaska, where she discovered her love for downhill skiing and embraced the beauty and excitement of life outdoors. Becky especially cherished traveling with her beloved sister, Jackie. Together they created countless treasured memories, including many trips to Hawaii, a place she dearly loved.

It was in Alaska that Becky met the love of her life, Vincent, on a blind date. From that moment on, the two were inseparable, building a life centered around love, family, and friendship. After the birth of their first daughter, Whitney, Becky and Vincent moved to Florida to begin their life together and raise their family. It was in Florida where they welcomed their second daughter, Michelle.

During her years in Florida, Becky created a home filled with love, laughter, and animals she adored. She had horses and many beloved pets over the years, each of which brought her tremendous joy and companionship. Becky also loved camping at Fort Pickens with her family and dear friends. Those trips were some of her happiest memories, filled with laughter, fun, and the simple joy of being surrounded by the people she loved most.

One of Becky’s greatest joys in life was giving to others. She loved buying thoughtful gifts for the people she loved and found so much happiness in making others feel special. Christmas was especially magical because of her generosity and loving spirit. She took great joy in making the holiday unforgettable for her grandchildren, carefully choosing gifts and creating cherished memories they will carry with them forever.

Becky had a remarkable gift for connecting with people and never met a stranger. Her warm heart, kind spirit, and contagious laugh left lasting impressions on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She will be remembered as a strong, beautiful, loving, and generous woman who always found joy in giving to her family and friends. Her strength through life’s hardships, combined with her unwavering kindness and love for others, will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Becky is preceded in death by her sister, Jackie Sherouse, her mother, Dorothy Sherouse, and her father, Lonza Sherouse.

Becky is survived by her brother, Bob Sherouse, beloved husband, Vincent; her daughters, Whitney and Michelle, her cherished grandchildren, Seth, Hayden, Natalie, Amelia, Mason, and Asher; and her sweet dog, Tisha.

Though her absence leaves an immeasurable void, the love, laughter, and memories she shared will live on forever in the hearts of her family and friends.

Donald Wales Hendrix

Donald Wales Hendrix, aged 89, stepped into the arms of Jesus on May 26, 2026, after a lengthy illness. Dad was born to James and Fannie Lou Hendrix on October 4, 1936, in Pensacola, Florida. He graduated from J.M. Tate High School in 1954. After working alongside his dad at Hendrix Garage for many years growing up, he went to work in the service station of Carlton Abbott’s store as a mechanic for a time. He left to work as a mail carrier in the Cantonment area for a brief time then returned to work at Abbott’s store until he gained employment at Chemstrand. During his time at Chemstrand, he enrolled in night school at Pensacola Junior College, where he obtained his associate’s degree. After obtaining his degree he became a production technician at Chemstrand, later Monsanto, where he retired after 30+ years. While employed at Chemstrand, he met the love of his life, Catherine Brown, and they were married on February 16, 1957, at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Eliska, Alabama. They had two wonderful children, Janice and Garry. Dad and Mom enjoyed many years traveling around the United States and Canada in their motorhomes. They were active members of the Winnebago Club, where he served as President. They included their grandchildren on many of their motorhome adventures. Dad loved fishing and hunting and staying in his cabin that he and his family built on the Alabama River. Dad had a special relationship with each of his grandchildren and loved playing practical jokes on them. His sense of humor was unique. Dad was a long-time member of Highland Baptist Church where he faithfully served many years as deacon, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Director, and in many other leadership positions. He was kind, generous, and gracious, and was the epitome of a true man of God. He truly lived his life in service of others,, and his life fully reflected his relationship with Jesus Christ. Some of the greatest joys later in his life were seeing his great-grandchildren come to have a personal relationship with Jesus.

Dad was welcomed into heaven by his wife of 65 years, Cathy; his parents, James and Fannie Lou Hendrix; and his siblings, Howard Hendrix, Jewel Marlin, Charles Hendrix, and Wilbur Hendrix.

He is survived by his daughter, Janice (Joe) Roman; and his son, Garry (Paula) Hendrix; four grandchildren, Lindsay (Nicholas) Davis, Rebecca (Logan) Szuch, Michael Roman, and Jacob Hendrix; and five great-grandchildren, Donovan Szuch, Connor Davis, Emma Davis, Norah Szuch and Piper Jane Szuch. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Lou Moss and Sarah Jenness; and his brother Winford Hendrix.

Pallbearers will be Michael Roman, Jacob Hendrix, Nicholas Davis, Logan Szuch, Eddie Cooper, and Archie Weaver.

The family wishes to thank Ms. Mary Purifoy and Ms. Virginia Brown for the compassionate and loving care they gave to our dad and granddaddy during his last years.

Michael Donald White, age 78, of Pensacola, Florida, passed away on Sunday May 3, 2026

He is preceded in death by his parents: Noah and Mattie Avis White (Welch). His sisters: Hazel Drummond, Betty Butcher, Deborah Gail White

He is survied by his loving wife, Ginger Faye White (McCaw): His children: Sonya Gause (Billy), Tammy White McManus (Brian), Donald Levi White : his grandchildren: Rhonda Floyd, Clayton Ryland, Corey Ryland and great granddaughter: Ansley Claire Ryland

He retired from PWC @ NAS Pensacola, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and fishing. He will be greatly missed.

Martha Lee Henderson

Martha Lee Henderson of Dothan, AL passed away at her home on Saturday, May 23rd, 2026. She was 86. Martha was born in Dadeville, Alabama to Juanita Warren and William Rich. She was a longstanding member of Liberty Church in Pensacola.

Services will be held at 11:30 am, on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory in Pensacola. Interment to follow at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola, Florida.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Walter Henderson; her parents, and a brother Frank Rich.

Survivors include her son Dan Henderson (Rhonda), daughter Christy Henderson, granddaughters Brittany Foster (William) and Courtney Bolling (Nicholas) and great granddaughters Elizabeth Rose and Olivia Marie Foster and Sarah Frances Bolling; sisters Marie Powell and Monica Bettencourt and brother Morris Jinks (Diane) and several nieces and nephews.

Claude Sidney Smith, Sr.

Claude Sidney Smith, Sr., age 71, of Century, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026 at his home. Born on January 3, 1955, in Anahuac, Texas, Claude was a man who deeply loved his family, the outdoors, and the simple joys of life. He spent many years working as a Correctional Officer with the Florida Department of Corrections, where he dedicated himself faithfully to his work and responsibilities. He also had other various jobs throughout his life.

Claude was known for his love of hunting, fishing, farming, and spending time outdoors. He especially enjoyed raising birds and racing pigeons, and he had a lifelong passion for animals. He also loved horseback riding, attending auction and estate sales, and collecting unique treasures over the years. Those who knew him understood that if there was an activity happening around him, Claude was likely involved and giving it his all. He competed in many types of arena activities and was known for his hardworking spirit and determination. Above all else, Claude loved his family. He cherished the time spent with those closest to him and leaves behind many treasured memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Smith and Matilda Shockley Smith; brother-in-law Butch Lambeth.

Claude is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Cheryl Smith of Century, Florida; his son, Claude Sidney Smith Jr. (Andrea) of Old Town, Florida, and their children Lorelei, Bailey, and Carter; daughters, Natalie Kidd of Allentown, Florida, and Monica Kidd of Bratt, Florida and her children Blaine, and Bionca; brothers, Clarence Smith of Pensacola, Florida, and Clinton Smith (Carrin) of Tallahassee, Florida; sisters, Clara Covan Gulsby of Byrneville, Florida, Teresa Lambeth of Flomaton, Alabama, and Claudia Williams (Tommy) of Berrydale, Florida; along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and special friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 1, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Petty Funeral Homes, LLC with Reverend Mitch Herring officiating.

Visitation will be held Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Petty Funeral Homes, LLC from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Ida Nette Cooper Franklin

Ida Nette Cooper Franklin, 92 of Pensacola, FL passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026, surrounded by her loving family after battling a lengthy illness. Born in Canoe, AL to parents Albert Preston Cooper and Viola Ray Cooper.

Nette (Nana) was known for her kindness and was a loving Wife, Mother, and Nana. She had a passion for painting her vision on canvas and spending time with family. She loved to cook and all the Grandchildren looked forward to her signature dish of Chicken and Dumplings.

Her faith and family were an important part of her life. She loved when everyone was able to get together and play card games around the kitchen table. Of course, if a John Wayne or Elvis Presley movie was on television she was ready to watch. Elvis was her favorite all time singer, attending several of his shows.

Even after her lengthy battle with dementia and struggles to communicate, Nette (Nana) never forgot the words “I Love You.”

Nette enjoyed working different interesting occupations at Monsanto, Gayfers, and her time at WXBM Radio.

She is preceded in death by her Parents, Son-Steve Mathis, Son-Buddy Franklin, Grandson- K.J. Groff Jr, and all but one of her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her husband of over 45 years Cecil Franklin, Daughters, Diane Kuykendall (Doug), Sandy Erb (Bob), and Kaye Antone (Ronnie). She is survived by one sister Mary Young. Nana’s legacy will continue with 13 Grandchildren, 15 Great Grandchildren, and 6 Great Great Grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on June 2, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Flannigan officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery Atmore, AL at 12:30 p.m.

Joyce Elaine (Alverson) Lambert

It is with great sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Joyce Elaine (Alverson) Lambert, of Atmore, AL, on May 13, 2026, at the age of 76.

She was born to the late William G. and Mary F. Alverson of Uriah, AL., on January 12, 1950, in Monroeville, AL.

She as preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents, Jack and Stella Qualls of Uriah, A., and a stepson, Brian Lambert of West Virginia.

She is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Mr. Billy Joe Lambert of Atmore, AL., her brother, Charles (Lenny) Alverson of Uriah, AL., two sons, Dennis (Janet) Jarrell of Atmore, AL., David Jarrell of Atlanta, GA., her daughter, Sherry (Terry) White of Atmore, AL., two stepson, Jeff (Regina) Lambert of Milton, FL., and Billy (Heidi) Lambert of Waldport, OR., 2 nephews, Michael and Jamie Alverson of Uriah, AL., one niece, Ashley Alverson House of Frisco City, AL.

She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, Nikki (Jake) McGhee of Atmore, AL., Tyler Jarrell of Century, FL., TJ (Ashley) Jarrell of Atmore, AL., Amy (Dustin) Bethea of Atmore, AL., Bailey (Jason) Lee of Milton, FL., Clayton (Alyssa) Lambert of Milton, FL., Josh Lambert of Elkins, WV, Oceanna and Avia Lambert of Waldport, OR. Her great-grandchildren, Mason, Maci, Maverick, and Mahaya McGhee, Kamden and Emberleigh Jarell, Eli Bowers, Daxton Bethea, Elijah and Grace Lambert, Delilah Lee, and many other friends and loved ones.

Growing up with her father being in the military, she traveled to many places with her family, finally settling in Uriah, AL., where she attended school at J.U. Blacksher. Later, she would attend Lurleen B. Wallace Community College in Andalusia, AL.

She held many jobs through the years, but her favorite was when she started in road and bridge construction, where she worked her way up from entry level to a first class truck and tractor driver. During this time, is when she met her husband, Billy, and together they settled in West Virginia for many years before returning to her hometown of Atmore, AL., where she spent her remaining years.

She enjoyed doing puzzles with her husband, cooking, baking, and reading, but sewing was her favorite.

Special thanks to the ladies of Southern Care Hospice for their amazing compassion and love that they have shown to our family during this difficult time.

Wayne Edward Lowrey

Wayne Edward Lowrey, of Atmore, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly at home on Wednesday evening, May 13, 2026.

Born on January 4, 1947, in Atmore, AL., Wayne was the son of the late Robert Lowrey and Mildred Lowrey.

Wayne was a Christian, hardworking, loyal, devoted man and loving brother who took immense pride in his family. He was married to the love of his life, Nellie Sue Jones Lowrey, for more than 57 wonderful years. Together they built a life centered on love, faith, and unwavering commitment to one another and to their children.

Wayne dedicated more than 35 years of his career to Monsanto and retired as an ECO. He was respected for his strong work ethic, dependability, and quiet leadership. In addition to his career, Wayne proudly served in the Army National Guard for many years and also served his community as an auxiliary officer with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

Wayne loved fishing and spending time in his work shed. He was a dedicated supporter of youth athletics and spent many years coaching and volunteering with Little League baseball at Myrtle Grove Ballpark. Through his coaching and volunteering he positively impacted countless young athletes and was a proud supporter of the Myrtle Grove Ballpark.

He was an avid fan of Auburn University athletics and never missed an opportunity to cheer on the Auburn Tigers. Wayne was known for his loyalty, his quick wit, and his wonderful sense of humor, which brought laughter and joy to those around him. Whether fishing, working in his shed, coaching at the ballpark, or spending time with family, he approached life with integrity, generosity, and a heart full of love.

Those who knew Wayne will remember him as a deeply loyal friend, a loving husband, a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and a man whose word could always be trusted. He was steady, dependable, and deeply devoted to his family.

Wayne is survived by his wife of more than 57 years, Nellie Sue Jones Lowrey of Pensacola; son, Ray Lowrey (Haley Lowrey and Sophia Jones Lowrey, and great-grandson Daxton Lett); daughter, Tammy Ridgley (Troy Ridgley and their sons Elias Ridgley and Maximus Ridgley); sister, Jan Kennedy; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

He will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of loyalty, hard work, laughter, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
