Driver Flees Scene After Crashing Into Tree On Highway 29

A driver ran off Highway 29 and struck a tree Wednesday afternoon before fleeing the scene.
It happened about 3:35 p.m. in the area of Highway 29 and Neal Road. The driver also traveled through a large utility construction hole before hitting the tree. First responders were unable to locate the driver.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating. The Molino Station of Escambia Fire Rescue, Escambia County EMS and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office also responded.

UF/IFAS Cover Crops And Soil Moisture Field Day Postponed Due To Rain

The UF/IFAS Extension Escambia County 2021 Cover Crops and Soil Moisture Field Day that was set for this Thursday has been postponed due to the probability of rain.
It will now be held at Sam and Scott Walker’s field on April 22, 2021. The event and demonstration will take place at the field located on the corner of North Highway 99 and Melvin Road in Oak Grove, about a mile south of the Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Speakers include the following:
- Sam and Scott Walker: Interest in the Project
- Dr. Mike Mulvaney: Soil Moisture and Cover Crops
- Dr. Audrey Gamble: Nutrient Management and Soil Health
- Drew Schrimsher: Cover Cropping in Florida and Alabama

Molino Woman Facing Multiple Weapons Charges After a Traffic Stop In Cantonment

A Molino woman is facing several weapons charges after a traffic stop in Cantonment.
Maigan Elizabeth Brown, 31, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of a concealed firearm, possession of a short-barreled shotgun, and possession of marijuana. She was also ticketed for knowingly driving while license suspended, failing to register a motor vehicle and attached tag not assigned or legally transferred.
An Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Brown on Highway 95A near Highway 29 in Cantonment.
A search of the vehicle revealed a 20-gauge shotgun with shortened stock and shortened barrel that measured about nine inches, one round in the chamber and three additional shotgun shells in the driver’s floorboard, according to an arrest report. Deputies also reported finding marijuana in the center armrest and the glove compartment.
According to ECSO, Brown is a seven-time convicted felon. She remained in the Escambia County Jail with bond set at $42,500.
Rabies Alert For Jay Area After Fox Tests Positive

A rabies alert has been issued for the Jay area by the Florida Department of Health in Santa Rosa County. The alert is in response to a report of a positive result for rabies in a fox on Monday.
The rabies alert will be in effect for the next 60 days.
An animal with rabies may appear sick or lethargic, have problems swallowing, or drool or salivate excessively. A wild animal may appear tamer than usual and some animals may have no visible symptoms.
All residents and visitors in Santa Rosa County should be aware that rabies is present in the wild animal population and domestic animals are at risk if not vaccinated. Alerts are designed to increase awareness to the public, but they should not give a false sense of security to areas that have not been named as under an alert.
An animal with rabies could infect other wild or domestic animals that have not been vaccinated against rabies. All domestic animals should be vaccinated against rabies and all contact with wildlife should be avoided, particularly raccoons, bats, foxes, skunks, otters, bobcats and coyotes. Rabies is a disease of the nervous system and is fatal to warm blooded animals and humans. The only treatment for human exposure to rabies is rabies specific immune globulin and rabies immunization. Appropriate treatment started soon after the exposure will protect an exposed person from the disease.

Northview Baseball Shuts Out ECHS 22-0; Tate Beats Gulf Breeze

With a six run seventh inning surge, the Tate Aggies beat Gulf Breeze 10-2 Tuesday night.
Josiah Glodfelter pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on three hits, walking none and striking out 15 in seven innings.
Drew Reaves had a third inning home run and led the Aggies at bat, going 3-5 with two runs and a RBI. Zak Licastro, Jordan Jorman, Frankie Randall, Jackson Penton, Bray Touchstone, and Cade Kelly each had a hit for Tate.

Tate and Gulf Breeze played to a 4-4 tie Tuesday afternoon.
Ehan McAnally had a grand slam home run in the fourth inning for Tate. Michael Sardar and Tristin Lynn also hat had hits for the Aggies.

The Northview Chiefs shut out Escambia County 22-0 Tuesday night in Atmore.
Josh Landis earned the win for Northview Chiefs in three innings. He allowed one hit and no runs while striking out four and walking non. Ethan Collier tossed two innings in relief, giving up no runs, not hit, no walks and striking out four.
Jamarkus Jefferson and Josh Landis each had a couple of hits for NHS. Adding one hit each were Kaden Odom, Tyler Riggs, Braden McGhee, Cody Thomas, Peyton Gilliam, Wyatt Scruggs and Ethan Collier.

911, What’s Your Emergency? It’s National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

It’s National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. Through April 17, telecommunications personnel in the public safety community are being honored and celebrated for their service and dedication to their community.
The week celebrates the dedication and hard work of the men and women who serve as emergency dispatchers, 911 call-takers, radio and phone technicians and other communication experts.
“Public safety telecommunicators serve their community every single day,” said interim Escambia County Public Safety Director Eric Gilmore. “These first responders who are often “unseen” but still heard are essential in emergency situations. Dispatchers have to quickly and skillfully ask the right questions and provide lifesaving information and instructions in a crisis. I’d like to thank the men and women who serve Escambia County residents in our 9-1-1 Communications Center.”

Northview Softball Gets Senior Night Shutout Of Laurel Hill; Tate Tops West Florida

The Northview Lady Chiefs celebrated Senior Night Tuesday with a 10-0 shut out of the Laurel Hill Hoboes.
Aubrey Stuckey pitched the shutout, giving up no hits and striking out seven.
Stuckey and Kaitlyn Gafford went 2-2 at the plate to lead Northview. Rylee Huskey, Payton Gilchrist, Abigail Levins, Nevaeh Brown, and Anna Sullivan had one hit each.
Before the game, Northview honored seniors Anna Sullivan, Heather Knowles, Abigail Levins, Rylee Huskey and Libby Pugh (pictured).
TATE 12, West Florida 4
The Tate Lady Aggies had a 12-4 win over the West Florida Jaguars Tuesday.
Abbie Burks earned the win for Lady Aggies. She surrendered four runs on nine hits over seven innings, walking one and striking out six.
Michayla Kent, Cam Wolfenden, Courtney Adams and Courtney Lundquist all recorded two hits for Tate, while Hanna Halfacre, Kennedy Turner and Sophia James added one each.

Deadly Hit And Run Driver Now Charged With Vehicular Homicide

An Escambia County man accused in a deadly hit and run accident on Mobile Highway last week was formally charged Tuesday.
Charles Fitzgerald Levi Noble, 34, was booked into the Escambia County Jail on charges of vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of a crash and destruction of evidence. He is being held without bond.
Noble surrendered at the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office last week after the vehicle he was allegedly driving was located, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. He was not immediately arrested at that time.
The blue Mustang involved in the crash was recognized by a man who saw the vehicle description in the news, and he called authorities. It was parked outside the WoodSpring Suites in the 2000 block of West Detroit Boulevard with the damage covered by a tarp. Troopers responded to the scene and seized the vehicle, which FHP said had front end damage consistent with the fatal hit and pedestrian crash.
FHP said the 49-year old female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle sometime late Tuesday, April 6 or early Wednesday, April 7 on Mobile Highway near Houston Avenue., about one-third of a mile south of Saufley Field Road. The impact of the collision knocked her down into a deep ditch. Victim names are no longer released by FHP.

Driver Seriously Injured In Crash Involving Parked Vehicle, Residence

A Pensacola man was seriously injured in a crash involving a parked vehicle and a residence late Monday night in Escambia County.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the 25-year old man was traveling at a high rate of speed on Requin Lane at 11:35 p.m. when he failed to stop at a stop sign and traveled across Guidy Lane. His Ford pickup collided with an unoccupied Honda in a private driveway. That caused the Honda to travel forward and hit a residence, and the pickup overturned turned between two residences.
The driver was trapped in the vehicle and extricated by Escambia Fire Rescue. He was transported by Escambia County EMS to Sacred Heart Hospital for treatment. There were no injuries in either residence, but one was damaged.
FHP said their investigation is continuing and charges are pending. The driver’s name was not released.
