Bad News Is More Heat Now; Good News Is Rain And Cooler Next Week

October 4, 2019

The high temperature in Pensacola on Thursday “absolutely obliterated the previous daily high temperature record,” according to the National Weather Service Service in Mobile.

The bad news is more record heat is on tap for Friday as temperatures top out once again in the 90s.

The good news a cold front will push through the area after the weekend. It won’t be one of those grab the sweater kid of cold fronts, but it will lower temperatures more in line with normal for this time of the year. By next week, we are looking at highs in the 80s and lows into the lower 60s.

And more good news: the cold front will bring some rain.

Northview Homecoming: What You Need To Know About The Parade, Festivities

October 4, 2019

Today is homecoming for the Northview Chiefs, and here’s what you need to know about the parade, the game and other activities.

The homecoming parade will line up at 12:30 p.m. at Bratt Elementary School. Members of the public not involved in the parade should not enter the Bratt campus. The parade will depart at 1 p.m. and travel to Northview High.

North Highway 99 and West Highway 4 will be closed to all vehicular traffic from just before to just after the parade. Parking is available on the right of ways along Highway 4, at the First Baptist Church of Bratt and Travis Nelson Park at the corner of Highway 4 and Bratt Road. The Escambia County Road Department has mowed the grass along the entire route, so high grass will not be a concern.

A homecoming meal will available Friday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. from the football concession stand to support the Tommy Weaver Scholarship Fund. The $7 meal will include a barbecue sandwich, chips, cookie and a drink. Preorders were taken, but a limited number of meals may be available on a first come, first served basis.

Homecoming activities, including presentation of the court and crowning of the homecoming queen, will begin at 6 p.m. in the stadium. The Northview Chief’s homecoming game will kickoff at 7 p.m. Friday  against Walton.
