Driver’s License, Tax Collector Services Available Thursday In Century

Driver’s license and other tax collector services will be available in Century on Thursday, May 16 from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Billy G. Ward Courthouse.
Mobile Licensing and Identification Office (MILO) is a fully functional tax collector office on wheels, offering a range of services. The mobile unit provides a convenient method to renew a driver license, obtain a replacement driver license, conversion/reciprocation of out-of-state license, change a name or address on a current driver license or identification card, and get a first-time identification card. In addition to licensing services, the mobile unit also provides an opportunity to renew or replace a vehicle registration, receive a parking placard, transfer a title, pay property taxes, and apply for a business tax receipt. Written and driving tests are not available from the MILO unit.

Escambia Schools Hope To Dismiss At Regular Time Today
May 13, 2024
Escambia County Public Schools will be dismissed at normal time Monday afternoon.
Superintendent Keith Leonard tells us that students are safely sheltered and indoors at all schools.
“We hope to dismiss as normal this afternoon,” Leonard said. “But some routes may be delayed. Student safety is at the forefront.”
If the weather is hazardous at dismissal time, bus routes will be delayed accordingly. Parents will be notified by callout.
All after school activities for Monday are canceled.

Reminder: Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Is Saturday

Letter carriers to pick up tons of much-needed food donations at mailboxes across Escambia and Santa Rosa counties this Saturday, May 11, as part of the Stamp Out Hunger food drive.
Residents can participate by leaving non-perishable food donations at their mailboxes on Saturday for letter carriers to collect. Bags for the donations were previously delivered, but any bag can be used.
“People right here in our Northwest Florida community – your neighbors and mine – are struggling every day to put food on the table. They do not have enough money to pay their bills and buy healthy groceries for their families,” said DeDe Flounlacker, Executive Director of Manna Food Pantries. “The Stamp Out Hunger food drive makes it possible for Manna and many of the area’s food pantries to feed thousands of children, senior citizens, veterans, families, and individuals in need in the months to come.”
Suggested healthy, non-perishable food items include canned fruit in 100% juice, canned mixed vegetables, canned chicken, canned tuna, dry breakfast items (oatmeal, whole-grain cereal), peanut butter, and/or dry beans. Residents should not donate items in glass containers or items that have been opened or homemade.
Donations will benefit local food banks and pantries in both counties, helping to ensure that families in need have access to nutritious food. Locally collected food donations will assist individuals and families served by Manna Food Pantries, Feeding the Gulf Coast, ACTS Ministries, We Care Ministries, and Warrington Emergency Aid Center.
“We are grateful to the National Association of Letter Carriers and our community for their support through this annual food drive. As our largest single food drive of the year, Stamp Out Hunger is deeply impactful for our one in seven neighbors, including 1 in 5 children right here in Northwest Florida who face the challenge of hunger,” says Michael Ledger, President & CEO of Feeding the Gulf Coast. “Partnerships and community support like this food drive made it possible for Feeding the Gulf Coast to distribute more than 5.7 million meals into Santa Rosa and Escambia Counties in 2023. As we continue to see an increase in hardworking families and individuals, children, and seniors facing hunger, we are hopeful there will be strong community support this year.”
The Stamp Out Hunger food drive, organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), is in its 32nd year. It is the largest one-day food drive in the country. Last year Escambia and Santa Rosa letter carriers collected 190,853 pounds of food from generous residents, providing 219,862 healthy meals!

Tate Aggies Crimson and Grey Game Is Tonight

The Tate High School Aggies will hold their annual Crimson and Grey game tonight.
Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. The Tate Quarterback Club will be selling concessions in the Aggie Shack with al proceeds going directly to the program. Tickets are available on GoFan.
The Tate Aggies will travel to Panama City for a Spring Game against Bay High at 7 p.m. next Thursday, May 16.
Escambia (FL) Delays School Start By One Hour Friday; Santa Rosa Two Hours

Escambia County (FL) Public Schools are delaying school start times by one hour on Friday due to possible severe weather. Santa Rosa County Schools are delaying start times by two hours.
Parents should plan to have Escambia students at bus stops one hour later than normal or make plans to drop their children off at schools one hour later than normal. All scheduled before-school activities are canceled.
All employees should plan to adjust their schedules accordingly and arrive at their work locations one hour later than their usual start time.
Lunch service will not be affected. Additionally, schools will dismiss at their normal times.
Note: Jay High School will move Algebra 1 and Geometry testing to Monday.
