Lady Chiefs At State: Northview Chasing Championship Ring This Week

The Northview Lady Chiefs hit the road early Sunday morning on their way to the FHSAA Rural Division Final Four near Orlando.
On Tuesday, the No. 2 seeded Chiefs (20-5) will take on the No. 3 Liberty County Bulldogs (23-5) at 2 p.m. Central time at Boombah-Soldiers Creek Park in Longwood. The winner will advance to the state championship on Wednesday against either Trenton (23-3) or Madison County (19-3).
Trenton was Northview’s nemesis last year, when the Tigers defeated the Lady Chiefs 11-1 for the state championship.

“They want another shot at Trenton. They want another shot at that ring,” Northview head coach Amy Holland said on Friday afternoon as the team wrapped up a final practice at Northview. “They’re excited; they want this really bad this year.”
In cooperation with the FHSAA, the NFHS network will stream the games on Tuesday and Wednesday (click here). There are no other video streams; any other service is a scam.

Brendan Jones’ Two Homers Not Enough In Series Finale

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos dropped the series finale against the Chattanooga Lookouts on Sunday by a final score of 5-3 at Erlanger Park.
The Wahoos struck first in the third, when leadoff hitter Brendan Jones smacked his 5th home run of the year over the wall in right field off of Lookouts starter Javi Rivera. That 1-0 lead would quickly be matched though, when back-to-back doubles from Dominic Pitelli and Carlos Jorge would knot things up at 1-1 in the bottom of the third.
That score would remain until the 5th, when Jones would repeat his success from his first at-bat, knocking out his second homer of the game and his 6th of the season to put Pensacola back on top with a 2-1 score. They would add one more in the 6th, when Ian Lewis Jr. would be awarded home on a balk from Lookouts reliever Johnathan Harmon (W, 4-1) and extend their lead to 3-1.
Blue Wahoos starter Luis Moreno would pitch 5.0 complete innings, allowing just 2 hits, 1 run, 0 walks, and striking out 4. He would first be relieved by Jack Sellinger (BS, 1) who would pitch the next 1.2 innings and surrender the lead. Chattanooga would cut the lead to 3-2 on a Leo Balcazar longball. An inning later, they would tie things up when Austin Hendrick would follow up a Shane Sasaki triple with a run scoring single to make it a 3-3 game.
The Lookouts would deal the deciding blows off Logan Whitaker (L, 2-2) in the bottom of the 8th after Balcazar would lead things off with a double and Cam Collier would follow up with a double of his own, scoring Balcazar and bringing the score to 4-3. A Shane Sasaki RBI single later, Chattanooga had a 5-3 lead, and would hold onto it for a three up, three down 9th.
The Lookouts only used two pitchers, with Rivera going the first 4.0 and Harmon going the final 5.0. Pensacola still ended up with a series victory, taking 4 of the 6 games played and hitting 13 home runs while doing so.
The Blue Wahoos begin their home series against the Clingstones on Tuesday.

Milbrandt Marvelous As Wahoos Return To .500 With 6-2 Win

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos got another dominant start from top prospect Karson Milbrandt and secured a series win over the Chattanooga Lookouts on Saturday night, hitting three homers and cruising to a 6-2 victory.
Milbrandt (W, 3-1) tied a career high with 11 strikeouts over 6.0 scoreless, three-hit innings. He extended his scoreless streak to 17.0 consecutive innings dating back to May 2, and lowered his Southern League-leading ERA to 1.24.
With the win, the Blue Wahoos improved to 19-19 and returned to the .500 mark for the first time since Opening Day. They kept pace with first-place Columbus in the South Division race, and trail by only 0.5 games with 31 games to play in the first half.
Fenwick Trimble gave Milbrandt an early lead, hitting a three-run homer against Lookouts starter Easton Sikorski (L, 0-1) just three batters into the game. Garret Forrester hit a second-inning solo homer in his first at-bat since coming off the injured list, and Brendan Jones followed with an RBI triple for a 5-0 lead through two innings.
Jay Beshears added a solo homer in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 6-0. The Lookouts threatened with a pair of two-out singles in the bottom of the sixth, but Milbrandt fanned Chattanooga’s Cam Collier in a battle of two top prospects to finish 6.0 innings for the fourth start in a row and tie a professional career high of 11 strikeouts previously set in the Midwest League in 2025.
The Lookouts hit back-to-back doubles in the seventh, and Ruben Ibarra hit a solo homer in the ninth, but Pensacola relievers Nigel Belgrave and Kade Bragg recorded the final nine outs to give the Blue Wahoos their fourth win in five games against the team with the Southern League’s best record.

Aggies Hold Off Marlins: Tate Claims 28-23 Spring Victory At Panama City Beach

The Tate Aggies beat the Arnold Marlins 28-23 in spring football on Friday night at Panama City Beach.
The Aggies were ahead 21-10 at the half and held on for the win.
The fall season begins on August 21 as the Aggies host the Marianna Bulldogs in Pete Gindl Stadium.
White Goes Seven Innings, Backed By Homers From Lewis And Miller In 9-3 Wahoos Win

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos took game 4 of their six-game series against the Chattanooga Lookouts on Friday night, securing a 9-3 victory.
The Wahoos got some early offense, putting up three runs in the second inning on an RBI double from Payton Green and a 2-run single from Gage Miller on back-to-back pitches. They would tack on one more when Dillon Lewis would hit his 4th homer of the series, and 9th of the year to extend the Pensacola lead to 4-0.
Chattanooga would get their only run off Wahoos starter Brandon White (W, 2-1) in the fourth, when Austin Hendrick ripped an RBI double into right field, scoring Zavier Warren and getting the Lookouts on the board. Pensacola’s offense would not be phased though, as Ryan Ignoffo brought in two more runs on an RBI single in the top of the fifth. One inning later, Gage Miller would put one over the wall for his fourth homer of the year to bring the lead to 7-1.
Brandon White would match his career high in innings with 7.0 complete, allowing only 1 run on 4 hits, 1 walk, and 8 strikeouts, making it his second consecutive quality start. Gabe Bierman would get the 8th and surrender one run via an RBI double off the bat of Cam Collier, scoring former Blue Wahoo Shane Sasaki and cutting the lead to 7-2.
Pensacola would top their offensive night off with two more insurance runs in the 9th. Michael Snyder would bring home Emaarion Boyd on a groundout, and Dillon Lewis would drive home Brendan Jones on a single into center, bringing the score to 9-2.
Livan Reinoso would finish things off in the ninth, after allowing a 2-out home run to Ruben Ibarra, cementing a final score of 9-3. Lookouts starter Kevin Abel (L, 3-2) got hooked with the loss and Wahoos starts Brandon White would notch his second career Double-A win.
The Blue Wahoos continue their series against the Lookouts on Saturday.

Wahoos Rally Late In Comeback Win Over Chattanooga

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos rallied for an impressive comeback win over the Chattanooga Lookouts on Thursday night, scoring four times in the eighth inning after letting an early lead slip away.
The Lookouts took a 1-0 lead in the first inning thanks to an infield single, stolen base, throwing error and wild pitch from Pensacola starting pitcher Orlando Ortiz-Mayr. The Blue Wahoos answered back in the second, capitalizing on a missed catch error from Lookouts left fielder Shane Sasaki to score three runs on a Michael Snyder sacrifice fly, Dylan Jasso RBI double and Brendan Jones sacrifice fly.
Jasso extended the Pensacola lead to 4-1 in the fourth inning with an opposite-field solo homer, his second of the season. The Lookouts tied it up in the bottom of the fifth, as Ortiz-Mayr started the frame by issuing a walk and a pair of singles before Christian MacLeod entered to make his Blue Wahoos debut. A run-scoring balk and Leo Balcazar RBI single followed to bring the score to 4-4.
The Lookouts took a 6-4 lead in the sixth on a Dominic Pitelli two-run homer. After the Blue Wahoos got a run back in the seventh on a Jones RBI single, reliever Luis Moreno (W, 1-2) surrendered a two-run homer to Cade Hunter to stretch the Chattanooga lead to 8-5.
Down to their final six outs, the Blue Wahoos mounted a rally in the eighth by drawing three walks against reliever Irvin Machuca. Snyder laced a two-run double into the left field corner against Thomas Farr (L, 1-2), Jasso tied the game with a sacrifice fly, and Gage Miller capped the comeback with a go-ahead RBI single for a 9-8 lead.
Colby Martin (S, 1) earned his first Double-A save, getting the final six outs while allowing only a walk and a single.
The Blue Wahoos went 6-for-9 with men in scoring position, and tied a franchise record last set in 2017 with three sacrifice flies in the same game.

Final Four Bound: Northview Lady Chiefs Seek Financial Support For State Trip

The Northview Lady Chiefs are asking for financial assistance to make the trip to the Rural Division Final Four next week.
The team will travel to Soldiers Creek Park in Longwood (Orlando metro) for the state semifinals on May 19 with the state championship to follow on May 20. The team must fund transportation, lodging, and food.
Donations can be made on Venmo or by check made payable to Northview Diamond Club at the school.
