Deborah ‘Debbie’ Hedgepeth

Deborah “Debbie” Hedgepeth, 56, of Molino, Florida beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 15, 2024. She dedicated her whole life to taking care of her family. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. Debbie was happiest when surrounded by her family and friends. She was a mother figure and a confidant to many and will forever be remembered for her unconditional love and huge heart.

She is preceded in death by her father, Wayne Carnley; her stepmother, Robin Carnley; her brother, Nathan Carnley.

Debbie is survived by her former husband, Joe Hedgepeth; their children, Shawna Carnley, Jessica (Wes) Navarre, Hannah Hedgepeth, and Kayden Hedgepeth; and the children of her heart, Andrew Hedgepeth, Skye Bullington, and CJ Bullington. She left her mother, Judie (Dan) Holt; sisters, Tina Green, Christine Carnley, and Kayla (Jason) Stone; and brother, Michael Carnley. She had 8 grandchildren.

The visitation will be held at Faith Chapel North on Monday, July 22, 2024, at 9:15 am for family and 10:00 am for friends.

Darryl Dwayne Goodale

Darryl Dwayne Goodale, a resident of Pace, Florida passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at the age of 56. He was born on February 29, 1968, in Pensacola, Florida to Nellie Bell Goodale and Carlis Goodale.

Darryl began his law enforcement career as a Camp 5 Road Prison Correctional Officer and later added the duties of an EMT.

Darryl served 28 years in law enforcement simultaneously serving 21 years with the Escambia County Sheriff Department Reserves. He had previously worked 7 ½ years with the Escambia County Road Department. The best part of Darryl’s career was the lifelong friends that he made and the brotherhood that he was a part of. Darry was respected for his dedication and hard work. He approached every task with diligence and integrity, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who worked with him.

He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife, children, family, and friends. He touched so many lives and will be remembered fondly for his kindness, compassion, and loving heart.

Darryl had a love for his 2 children. He was always involved with his children’s sports teams and was passionate about teaching his family to hunt, fish, and enjoy the outdoors just as he did. They could have never asked for a more supportive Dad. Darryl found much joy in spending time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Nellie Bell Goodale.

Darryl is survived by his wife of 26 years, Shea Guier Goodale; two children, Daulton Riley Goodale and Kylie Reese Goodale; and his father, Carlis Goodale.

Darryl may have left this world too soon, but his love and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

The family will host a Celebration of Life at a later date.

Bennie Charles “Chuck” Presley, Jr.

Bennie Charles “Chuck” Presley, Jr., age 52, of Wawbeek, AL passed away on July 16, 2024. He was born on August 31, 1971 in Monroeville, AL to Bennie C. and Carolyn Till Presley, Sr. Chuck was a member of Grace Fellowship Church and the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. He was faithful and humble in carrying out God’s mission sharing the Gospel of Christ. Chuck valued studying his Bible and cherished time spent with his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing with his dog, Cali and working in his yard. He was a Technician with Frontier Communications. He is preceded in death by his father, Bennie Charles Presley, Sr.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Tammy Jefferies Presley; his children, Blake (Mary) Presley, Madison (Matthew) Cook and Ashtyn (Nate) Donald; his grandchildren, Griffin Cook and Eden Presley; his mother, Carolyn Presley; his sisters, Ronda Woodard, Regina (Huey) Swilley, Melissa Presley and Chasity (Robert) McGillivray, and his extended family, Karissa Knight and her children, Peyton Lee, Landon Lee, and Remi Knight.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Grace Fellowship Church in Atmore, AL with Bro. Floyd Harris, Pastor Gene King and his son-in-law, Bro. Matthew Cook officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Doug Murphy, Chuck Thompson, Keith Classen, Dave Landis, Brandon Blanton, Mike Thomas, Daniel Harris and John Salter.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. until service time at 3:00 p.m. at Grace Fellowship Church.

Our momma, Barbara Ann Mathis Thomas, 71, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2024, surrounded by her family, after a two-year battle with cancer.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Robert Thomas; her parents, D. Earnest and Blanche Mathis; her brothers, Joe and David Mathis; her daughter, Tiffany Johnson; her grandson, Noah Johns; and her nephew, Joe-Joe Mathis.

Barbara is survived by her children, Patricia “Tinker” (Pete), Earnest (Jennifer), Kimberly (Tim), Tara (James), Robert (Collyn), Nathan (Crystal), Joanna, Mechelle, Robin, and Johnna (Joe); her sister and best friend, Katie Mathis; her nieces, Janet and Karen; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Our family would like to express our sincerest gratitude to her Oncologist, Dr. Brown, and his amazing team and her hospice team. We appreciate everything you did for our momma.

Willie Lucille Robbins

Willie Lucille Robbins, age 89, of Bratt, FL, went to be with the Lord on July 18, 2024. She was born to Willie Wayne and Ruby Hall. Lucille was a graduate of Ernest Ward High School in 1953. She was a devoted wife to her husband Alton and a loving mother to her son Matt. Furthermore, she was a beloved grandmother and great-grandmother.

Lucille had the heart of a traveler. Even from a young age, she loved to explore new places, creating memories that would last her a lifetime. One place in particular that she explored frequently, was the Smoky Mountains. Enjoying the mountains with her friends and family, was no doubt an activity she cherished.

Lucille was a simple woman who found comfort and joy in the morning coffee and talks she shared with her sister-in-law, Glennie Robbins. She was also an advent storyteller and had the most interesting stories that her grandchildren and great-grandchildren prided themselves in hearing. Moreover, she was able to make a signature gumbo that was swoon-worthy.

Mrs. Robbins was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, James Alton Robbins.

Mrs. Robbins is survived by her son Matt (Margo) Robbins of Bratt, FL; two grandchildren, Harmony (Mike) Ramsey of Grand Bay, Al, and Sheldon (Kelly) Robbins of Bratt, FL; four great-grandchildren, Logan Bell, and Mackenzie Bell, Madison Robbins, and Maddox Robbins, plus a host of other beloved relatives.

Lucille was an incredible woman, a woman with drive, and a woman with kindness. While her death is and will be mourned, her family knows that she is now with the Lord, her parents, and her husband, comfortably watching over them. She will be missed dearly.

The family would also like to thank Linda Nelson Lee, Lucille’s cousin, for all her support and help during these past few months.

Graveside and burial service will be held Sunday, July 21, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. at Godwin Cemetery with Rev. Ronald Hall officiating.

Visitation and viewing will be held at Petty Funeral Home in Atmore, AL on July 21th at 1-2 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Michael Ramsey, Logan Bell, Greg Robbins, Barney Cash, Aaron Hall, and Aaron Killam.

Patricia Arnette Dees, a resident of Molino, Florida passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at the age of 75. She was born in Pensacola, Florida on October 12, 1948, to the late Leslie Arnette and Alma Frances Hayes Arnette.
Patricia loved to dig in the yard and take care of her flowers. She would tell all her friends that she was a gopher at heart.

She and Milford were blessed, in their later years, to have spent 11-plus years together.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, JoAnn Peacock.

Even though she had health problems, Patricia was a loving wife and will be loved and missed very much.

I love you, sweetheart, Milford.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North. Burial will follow in Cottage Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at 11:00 prior to services.

Beverly Ann Gilfillan Austin

Beverly Ann Gilfillan Austin, the widow of Charles Calvin Austin, mother to Scottie Austin Wilson and Paula Austin Brantley, grandmother to Andrew Mitchell Wilson, Austin William Wilson, John Calvin Wilson, and Wyatt Austin Brantley, passed away on Friday, July 12th, 2024. Beverly was 80 years old.

Born on August 6th, 1943 in Camden, New Jersey Beverly was known for her love of her family, God, and Alabama football. She and her husband Charles started Austin’s Carpet Service in 1973 in Milton, Florida. Beverly and Charles built a family-owned business in the community and were well known for their contributions to the First United Methodist Church Youth Group and numerous Milton High School Booster Clubs. She and Charles touched the lives of many in their community through their generous, kind, and loving spirit. She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Milton, Florida. Upon Charles’ death, Beverly went on to work as a bookkeeper at Escambia Collision in Pensacola, Florida, volunteered with the Arthritis Foundation, and was a doting grandmother of 4 grandsons. While many people have numerous hobbies, Beverly would always say that her family was her hobby and that was all she ever needed.

Beverly Austin is survived by her daughters, Scottie Austin Wilson (James Wilson), and Paula Austin Brantley (Lee Brantley); grandsons, Andrew Mitchell Wilson (Sarah Grace Wilson), Austin William Wilson (fiancée Emmy Beason), John Calvin Wilson, and Wyatt Austin Brantley; step-grandchildren, Jennifer Brantley Taylor and Meagan Brantley; step great-grandchildren Doyle Taylor, Preston Taylor, Beckham Brown, and Brantley Brown who will cherish and work to honor the memory and legacy of their beloved mother and Nana. Additional family members include sister, Susan Gilfillan Shunk; brother, Andrew George Gilfillan III (Doris Gilfillan); niece, Veronica Austin; nephew, Andrew George Gifillan IV (Jennifer Gifillan); niece, Stacey Pietruszynski (Steve Pietruszynski); and additional great nieces and nephews, Kelly Gilfillan, Conor Gilfillan, Spencer, Pietruszynski, Carson Pietruszynski, and GiGi Gilfillan. The extended family includes Rod Courtney (Donna Courtney) and Wanda Conway. Beverly will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

Beverly Austin was predeceased by her husband of 32 years Charles Calvin Austin; parents, George and Altana Gilfillan; sister, Nancy Lee Gilfillan; brothers-in-law, Otis Austin (Jean Austin), Herman Austin (Mavis Austin), James Bernard Austin (Janie Austin), and Robert William Chute; and nephew, James Austin.

Visitation and viewing will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Faith Chapel North, 1000 South Highway 29, Cantonment Florida, 32533. The funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. where friends and family are invited to pay their respects or join in remembrance. Beverly will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Charles in Bayview Memorial Park following the service.

Beverly fought many health issues during her life, including doctors telling her that she would be wheelchair-bound by her 50s but she was a fighter and never gave in. She will be remembered by all as a woman of incredible faith, unbounding love of her family and friends, and endless courage, determination, and persistence.

Her family would like to say a special thank you to Wanda Conway for the friendship and comfort she gave Beverly as well as the wonderful insights, knowledge, love, and emotional support she showed our entire family.

Nicholas S. Steele Jr.

Nicholas S. Steele Jr., 73, peacefully joined his Lord and Savior surrounded by his loving family on July 10th, 2024. He was born on November 5th, 1950, in Pensacola, Florida, to Nicholas S. Steele Sr. and Nelda H. Steele. Nick is survived by his devoted son, Nicholas S. Steele III, and daughter-in-law Samantha Steele. Nicholas S. Steele Jr. graduated from Woodham High School in 1968 and pursued an associate degree at Marion Military Institute, graduating in 1970. Initially in insurance sales, he later discovered a passion for carpentry, eventually founding his own successful carpentry business in 1978 before retiring at the age of 50. His exceptional work ethic and extraordinary dedication were truly admired by everyone who knew him, especially when it came to his son. He showed his unwavering commitment by being present for his son in every aspect of his life, whether it was for support, guidance, or spending quality time together.

An outdoorsman at heart, Nick cherished time spent hunting and fishing with his son. He was known for his kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand without expecting anything in return.
Funeral services and visitation will be held on July 19th, 2024, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home in Cantonment, Florida. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Pineville Methodist Cemetery in Beatrice, Alabama. We are gathering to celebrate a life well-lived, so please join us in colorful attire to honor Nick’s vibrant spirit.

Rodney Brown Maxwell

Rodney Brown Maxwell, 79, of Pensacola, Florida peacefully passed away on June 12, 2024, surrounded by his devoted family.

He was known to many as “Max”. Rodney is survived by his loving wife Sheila Sheehan of 57 years.

He was the proud father of daughters Crystal Lane and Dawn (Eric) Jackson and sons Corey (Jennifer) Maxwell and Ryan (Heather) Maxwell. He was most affectionately known as Poppy to his loving grandchildren Tyler (Megan), Sierra, Maxwell, Ryleigh, Sydney, Reece, Emalyn and great granddaughter, Elizabeth. He is also survived by his sister, Maxine Strickland, cousin Buddy Brown, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Wilbur Lee and Mary Autney Maxwell and brother-in-law, Roy Strickland.

Rodney was born on September 2, 1944 in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. He graduated from Walton High School in 1962. He joined the Air Force and was stationed in Germany and Hill Air Force Base in Utah where he met his wife whom he married on December 22, 1967. After serving, Rodney moved to Pensacola and began his career with Southern Bell as a cable splicer where he made many lifelong friends. He was a dedicated and hardworking employee for 40 years until his retirement in 2007. He spent much of his time fishing and listening to Alabama football. He was his grandchildren’s number one fan and spent countless hours supporting their many endeavors.

A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held on Sunday, July 14th at 4:00 pm at the Sanders Beach Community Center.

The family is encouraging guests to dress in appropriate “Rodney” attire including Hawaiian or fishing shirts. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to ARC Gateway. Interment at Barrancas National Cemetery will occur on a separate date.
