The Florida Department of Health reported one additional COVID-19 death and 135 new positive cases Wednesday in Escambia County.

Florida Tops One Million COVID-19 Case; Escambia Reports One New Death, Another 143 Cases

The Florida Department of Health reported one additional COVID-19 death and 143 new positive cases Monday in Escambia County as the state surpassed one million cases.

Tuesday Was Hurricane Sally Deadline Day: Apply For Financial Help, Put Out Debris By Today

Tuesday was the deadline to apply for Hurricane Sally financial assistance, and the final day to put out debris or drop it off at a designated site.
Financial Help
The FEMA application deadline for Escambia County residents with uninjured losses is Tuesday, December 1.
Survivors can register with FEMA:
- By visiting DisasterAssistance.gov
- Downloading the FEMA App for smartphones
- Calling 800-621-3362 (800-462-7585 TTY). Multilingual operators are available.
December 1 also is the deadline for homeowners and renters, businesses of all sizes, and nonprofit organizations to apply to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for low-interest disaster loans for physical property damage. The deadline for working capital applications for small businesses and eligible nonprofit organizations is July 2, 2021. For more information, visit https://DisasterLoanAssistance.sba.gov/. Applicants may also call SBA’s Customer Service Center at 800-659-2955.
Debris Collection
The third and final Hurricane Sally debris collection pass begins Tuesday, with a goal to collect all of the roadside debris in Escambia County by Christmas.
Debris that was generated by Hurricane Sally should be placed and sorted on the area immediately adjoining the road in front of your home. Vegetative debris like tree limbs need to be separate from construction and demolition materials like drywall and carpet. Keep debris away from storm drains, low power lines, other utilities and mailboxes.
In addition to curbside removal of debris for residents, residential drop off sites are accepting vegetative debris generated by Hurricane Sally through today. The locations are:
- Escambia County Equestrian Center at 7750 Mobile Highway
- John R. Jones Athletic Complex at 555 East Nine Mile Road
- Oak Grove Convenience Center at 745 North Highway 99
- Baars Field at 13020 Sorrento Road
- Lexington Terrace at 900 S Old Corry Field Road
- Park East at 1233-1235 at Fort Pickens Road
10,000 Pound Food Giveaway Tuesday At Carver Park In Cantonment

The Cantonment Improvement Committee will hold a food distribution on Tuesday, December 1 at Carver Park, 208 Webb Street. There will be 10,000 pounds of food distributed.
The food distribution will begin at 3:30 p.m. and continue while supplies last for anyone in need of food. Line up on Webb Street facing north. An identification is required.

Another Freezing Night; Mid 20s In North Escambia

Another freeze in forecast in the North Escambia area for Tuesday night.
Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
To prevent freezing and possible damage to outdoor water pipes, they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

Century Town Hall Closed After ‘Some Staff’ Test Positive For COVID-19

The Century Town Hall is temporarily closed after “some staff” tested positive for COVID-19.
According to the town, the town hall will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday for professional cleaning “due to some staff testing positive”. The drive-thru will reopen on Thursday at 7 a.m., but the lobby will be closed until further notice.
The town will pay ServePro and estimated $2,000 to fog and wipe down the building with disinfectants.
Century closed the town hall back in late July after two employees tested positive for the virus.
One Additional COVID-19 Death, 54 New Positives Reported In Escambia County

A lower number of tests than normal were reported Monday due to the preceding Thanksgiving holiday weekend when many testing centers were closed.

Atmore Police Seeking ‘Armed And Dangerous’ Suspect For Shooting Death Of Teen

The Atmore Police Department is searching for a suspect they say shot and killed a local teenager as he sat in a vehicle Friday afternoon.
Rodarious Tyrig Dailey, age 22 of Atmore, is wanted for murder and should be considered armed and dangerous, according to police.
Just before 4:30 p.m. Friday, the Atmore Police Department received a 911 call reporting that one person had been shot at 163 Harris Street. Atmore officers arrived to find the 17-year old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body area, according to Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks.
The teen was transported by ambulance to Atmore Community Hospital where he later died.
Witnesses told police that the Atmore teen was sitting in the back seat of a vehicle parked at the residence when a lone suspect entered the property. Police were told the gunman then fired into the car, striking the victim.
Anyone with information about Dailey’s whereabouts is asked to call Atmore Police at (251) 368-9141 or 911.

There is a freeze warning in effect in effect for the North Escambia area for Monday night, with temperatures as low as 25 degrees expected.
