Homer Not Enough For Wahoos In 6-3 Loss To Clingstones

June 13, 2026

Aiva Arquette hit his third home run in as many weeks for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, but mid-inning bullpen woes proved costly in a 6-3 loss to the Columbus Clingstones on Friday night.

Columbus took a 2-0 lead in the second inning against Blue Wahoos starter Orlando Ortiz-Mayr by stringing together four consecutive two-out singles, capped by run-scoring hits from Keshawn Ogans and Patrick Clohisy.

The Blue Wahoos chipped away against Columbus starter Lucas Braun (W, 1-3), as Arquette hit a solo homer in the fourth and Jay Beshears hit a game-tying RBI single in the fifth to bring the score to 2-2.

The game turned in the fifth, as Colby Martin (L, 2-3) struggled to find his command in relief for the Blue Wahoos. The righty allowed a two-out hit-by-pitch and a single before Logan Braunschweig hit a go-ahead RBI single for a 3-2 lead. A pair of bases-loaded walks followed, putting the Clingstones ahead 5-2.

Drew Compton added a sacrifice fly in the seventh against Blue Wahoos reliever Michael Perez for a 6-2 Columbus advantage. The Blue Wahoos got a run back in the eighth with a Ryan Ignoffo RBI double, but Samuel Strickland (S, 2) quieted the rally and worked around a single in the ninth to earn a five-out save.

The Blue Wahoos continue their series against the Clingstones on Saturday night.

Matheus, Belgrave Lead Blue Wahoos To Wild Extra-Inning Win

June 12, 2026

In a game filled with ups, downs, and three ejections, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos beat the Columbus Clingstones 6-5 in 11 innings on Thursday night.

Juan Matheus was the offensive star for Pensacola, blasting a three-run homer in the fourth inning against rehabbing major leaguer Hurston Waldrep and delivering a go-ahead RBI double in the top of the 10th inning.

The night began as a pitcher’s duel between Waldrep and Eliazar Dishmey, the reigning Southern League Pitcher of the Week making his third career start for the Blue Wahoos. Archer Brookman took Dishmey deep with a solo homer in the second inning, but that would be the only hit allowed by the young righty over 5.0 solid innings.

After a perfect first trip through the order, Waldrep ran into trouble in the fourth. Ryan Ignoffo brought home Aiva Arquette with a game-tying RBI single, and Matheus followed with a three-run homer to put the Blue Wahoos ahead 4-1.

The Clingstones chipped away against the Pensacola bullpen, as Patrick Clohisy hit a solo homer off Jake Christianson in the sixth and David McCabe hit a game-tying RBI single in the eighth against Jack Sellinger.

Kade Bragg left the bases loaded in the eighth and worked a scoreless ninth despite an unusual sequence in which Blue Wahoos defensive coach Cam Vega was ejected by home plate umpire Pedro Torres for arguing balls and strikes.

In the top of the 10th, Matheus delivered again with an RBI double to give the Blue Wahoos a 5-4 lead. Matheus was stranded at third by Brett Sears, who allowed just an unearned run over 6.0 innings of long relief for the Clingstones, giving Pensacola’s Nigel Belgrave (W, 2-4) little margin for error in the bottom half of the inning. Belgrave retired all three men he faced, but uncorked a wild pitch to score Keshawn Ogans and force an 11th inning.

The Blue Wahoos didn’t get the big hit they were looking for in the 11th against Tyler LaPorte (L, 0-2), but Emaarion Boyd sprinted home from third base on a two-out passed ball from Brookman behind the plate to put Pensacola ahead 6-5.

Belgrave came back out for the bottom of the 11th once again trying to protect a one-run lead, and executed both on the mound and by fielding his position. He foiled a Kevin Kilpatrick Jr. sacrifice bunt attempt, firing to third base to throw out Brookman, and then one batter later lobbed a perfect toss to Dylan Jasso to retire Drew Compton on a dribbler up the first base line. With Kilpatrick at third as the tying run, Belgrave struck out Ambioris Tavarez on a check swing to end a hard-fought Blue Wahoos win.

Blue Wahoos manager Nelson Prada and catcher Ryan Ignoffo were both ejected by third base umpire Warren Eubanks arguing a Kilpatrick stolen base in the 11th. Combined with Vega’s ninth-inning dismissal, they marked the first three ejections handed to the Blue Wahoos this season.

The Blue Wahoos continue their series against the Clingstones on Friday night.

Three Former Tate Aggies Coaching In The College World Series

June 11, 2026

Three former Tate High Aggies will be coaching on college baseball’s biggest stage during the College World Series in Omaha.

They are Logan Blackmon and Jesse Sherrill of the Troy Trojans and Nolan Cain at Texas.

Logan Blackmon. Troy

Blackmon was elevated to director of Catching & Assistant Player Development ahead of the 2026 season, following three seasons on the Troy coaching staff as a graduate assistant. During his time with the Trojans, Troy has won 37-plus games for three straight seasons for the first time since 1996-98, including an NCAA Regional appearance in 2023.

The 2017 Tate graduate played his sophomore through senior season for the varsity Aggies. He played two seasons at Pensacola State (2018-19), earning All-Panhandle Conference honors as a sophomore. Blackmon was a catcher at Troy in 2021 before kickstarting his coaching career as a student assistant in 2022.

Jesse Sherrill, Troy

Former All-Sun Belt second baseman Jesse Sherrill joined the Troy coaching staff as a graduate assistant prior to the 2025 season. Sherrill assists with the development of Troy’s hitters and infielders.

Sherrill played his junior and senior years on the Aggies varsity before graduating in 2018. During his college career, he starred at Gordon State College (2019-20), Kennesaw State (2021) and Georgia Southern (2022-23). Sherrill was named to the All-Atlantic Sun Second Team in 2021 before landing on the All-Sun Belt First Team during both of his seasons at Georgia Southern. As a senior, Sherrill took home the Sun Belt batting title with a .409 batting average.

Nolan Cain, Texas

An accomplished recruiter and national-champion player, Nolan Cain begins his second season as the associate head coach at Texas in 2026. He serves as the Longhorns’ recruiting coordinator, third-base coach and mentors the catchers.

Over his nine seasons as a recruiting coordinator at LSU (2017-21), Texas A&M (2022-24) and Texas (2025-Present), Cain has inked eight top-10 classes, including six slotted in the top five nationally. In his first cycle on The Forty Acres, he signed the No. 1 class, according to both Baseball America and Perfect Game.

A four-year letterwinner at LSU (2006-09), Cain was a member of the 2009 national championship squad that defeated Texas in the CWS finals.

Blue Wahoos Split Doubleheader In Columbus

June 11, 2026

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos took one of two games played on Wednesday against the Columbus Clingstones. Pensacola took game one by a score of 6-3 and lost game two by a score of 2-1.

Through the first 5 innings of game one, both offenses were quiet. That all changed in the top of the 6th though, when 7 of the first 8 Wahoos would reach. Cam Cannarella got things started with a leadoff double, followed by an Aiva Arquette single that pushed Cannarella to third. Fenwick Trimble proceeded to drive in Cannarella with a single and Dillon Lewis would walk to load the bases with nobody out and the Wahoos leading 1-0.

With the pillows packed, Ryan Ignoffo knocked a single up the middle to extend the lead to 3-0, which was immediately expanded upon on a Juan Matheus run scoring single. Following a fly out and a wild pitch, Ian Lewis Jr. brought two more home on the 5th single and 6th hit of the innings, bringing the Pensacola lead to 6-0.

That lead would hold, thanks to a stellar outing from Blue Wahoos starter Alex Williams (W, 3-5). Despite allowing a run in the 6th and two more in the 7th, Williams would set a season high and match a career high with 7.0 innings of work and throwing the first complete game for the Wahoos since Jeff Lindgren did it back in 2022. Clingstones reliever Jacob Wallace (L, 1-1) would be charged with the loss after allowing all 6 runs in just 0.1 innings.

The Wahoos would be unable to garner the same result in game two, losing 2-1 despite a great start from typical reliever Gabe Bierman (L, 0-1).

The Wahoos struck first when Cam Cannarella scored on a wild pitch from Clingstones starter Drue Hackenberg (W, 2-0) following singles from Cannarella and Fenwick Trimble. But Columbus would answer in the bottom of the first when a one out walk to Luke Waddell would be brought in on David McCabe’s Southern League leading 14th home run of the season, giving the Clingstones a 2-1 lead.

Both offenses would put up zeroes after the first frame, with Bierman going 4.0 innings with just Waddell’s walk and McCabe’s homer being the only blemishes on his start. Relievers Luis Vargas (H, 4) and Blane Abeyta (S, 4) would tackle the 6th and 7th innings to close out the win for the Clingstones and secure a doubleheader split.

Cannarella and Trimble each had three hits across both games, and Pensacola relievers Holt Jones and Colby Martin would each throw scoreless innings in game two.

The Blue Wahoos continue their series against the Clingstones on Thursday night.

Aggie Nation Rallies For ‘MyMy’ Padgett As Heart Surgery Declared A Success

June 10, 2026

As Tate High School softball and the Aggie Nation community stepped up to the plate to support one of their own, some of the best possible news arrived from Orlando: Mykamia “MyMy” Padgett’s heart surgery was a success.

Padgett is now in the recovery phase and is expected to spend the next week in Orlando under specialized care before she is cleared to make the journey back home.

The positive update set a meaningful backdrop for an emotional and impactful Tuesday evening at the ballpark. While the Tate Lady Aggies opened their Summer Ball season on the field, the focus of everyone in attendance extended far beyond the scoreboard.

All concession proceeds from the evening’s three-game slate—featuring matchups between Tate, West Florida, and Northview—were dedicated to helping Padgett and her family with the immense travel and medical expenses associated with her treatment. Pizza for Tuesday night’s event were donated by Johnny Brusco’s New York Style Pizza on West Nine Mile Road.

The community showed out, transforming a standard summer opener into a powerful rally of love, prayer, and financial support for the incoming Tate senior and Alabama State University commit.

The open-heart surgery in Orlando was scheduled to correct a heart condition that was discovered after Padgett unexpectedly passed out following an intense game mid-season.

Before heading into the operating room on Tuesday, Padgett expressed how overwhelming the sudden diagnosis had been for her as an athlete, but noted that her strength came from a higher place.

“More than anything, I’m putting my faith in God, trusting that He will give me strength to get through this like He has every other challenge in my life,” Padgett said.

With the surgery successfully behind her, the long road to recovery begins. But as Tuesday evening proved, Aggie Nation and the entire North Escambia community will be standing right by her side every step of the way.

See A Wild Turkey? FWC Wants You To Report The Sighting

June 9, 2026

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is asking Florida residents and visitors to report all sightings of wild turkeys between now and Aug. 31. This includes hens, poults (newly hatched wild turkeys) and gobblers.

Florida’s annual summer wild turkey survey is part of a broader multi-state initiative aimed at better understanding the reproductive success and abundance of wild turkeys. This survey helps determine wild turkey nesting success, poult survival, and population distribution and abundance, which is crucial information that FWC biologists need to manage and sustain healthy wild turkey populations for years to come.

Wild turkeys are abundant in Florida and are found throughout the state, and nests typically begin to hatch in late spring and continue into the summer. However, nesting success can vary each year based on several factors, including weather conditions, predation and habitat quality. Fluctuations in nesting success and poult survival can strongly influence wild turkey populations. By reporting wild turkey sightings, Floridians and visitors can help biologists estimate population metrics at statewide and regional levels.

Championships And All-Stars Wins Highlight Century Youth Ball Weekend

June 8, 2026

The Century Baseball Association brought home several tournament wins over the weekend.

In baseball action, the 8U and 10U teams competed in the USSSA Region 11 All-Star tournament. Severe weather disrupted play, ultimately preventing the teams from finishing their championship games or taking post-game photographs. Tournament officials determined the final standings based on tournament seeding.

Because both Century teams held the number one seed when play was halted, the Burkett 8U squad was named the Gold Bracket Champions, and the Smith/Little 10U squad earned the Silver Bracket Championship. Both teams have advanced to the state tournament in Oxford, Alabama.

The association’s softball divisions also completed their All-Star tournament runs over the weekend.

The 8U softball team finished in third place. A highlight of their tournament included an over-the-fence, walk-off grand slam hit by Kenzie Burkett to secure a victory.

The 10U softball team earned a second-place finish, while the 16U baseball team placed third in the competitive “A” bracket.

Blue Wahoos Fall 10-1 To Chattanooga In Series Finale

June 8, 2026

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos fell to the Chattanooga Lookouts by a final score of 10-1 on Sunday afternoon.

A hot start by the Lookouts (31-26) in the first inning backed by dominant pitching from starter Jose Acuna (W, 4-4) left the home side unable to catch up. Tying his season high in innings pitched, Acuna delivered 7.0 stunning frames that saw three hits and one earned run allowed while fanning six Pensacola bats.

Though the Blue Wahoos (28-29) got one back in the fifth inning, seven unanswered runs spelled disaster in the series finale. Starter Luis Moreno (L, 1-3) suffered his third loss, allowing four earned runs to cross on four hits yet setting a season high in strikeouts, collecting eight.

Chattanooga evens the series with Pensacola at 6-6 on the season after the Blue Wahoos took the first series 4-2 at Erlander Park earlier this year. The Lookouts sit atop the North division of the Southern League, while the Blue Wahoos come in at third in the South division. They are 0.5 games back of Biloxi, and 2.5 games back of first place Montgomery.

The Lookouts jumped ahead early after a strong three-run first inning. Back-to-back sacrifice flies into deep left from Cade Hunter and Ruben Ibarra scored Carlos Jorge and Jay Allen II respectively, and a solo homer over right field from Cam Collier punctuated the 3-0 start for Chattanooga.

Pensacola got a run back in the bottom of the fifth as Connor Caskenette took home on a groundout by Cam Cannarella. The Lookouts answered immediately in the top of the sixth with a Julio Carreras sacrifice fly to score Ibarra, followed by a double from Pablo Aliendo to plate Collier and extend the lead to 5-1.

A five-run ninth inning for the Lookouts would shut down any hope for a late-game comeback, exacerbated by three hit batters and two errors in the field.

After an off day Monday, the Blue Wahoos begin a six-game road series against the Columbus Clingstones, Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, on Tuesday night.
