Stephen Glenn “Steve” Mathi

Stephen Glenn “Steve” Mathis, 69, passed away at home on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Steve was born in Pensacola on July 31, 1954. Steve attended J. M. Tate High School. He had life-long friendships with many of his classmates and considered several of them family.
Steve loved sports of all kinds, particularly football and outdoor sports. As a youth, he played football with the Cantonment Cowboys, and later, as safety and punt returner for J. M. Tate High School and for the University of Southern Mississippi briefly. He was a pole vaulter for the Tate track and field team. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed hiking, skiing, swimming, surfing, fishing, boating, and camping in the mountains. He even lived in his cabin cruiser for a few years.
Steve was an adventurer. Among his favorite occupations was working for Air Florida and truck driving, because he was able to travel to many different locations. He lived in Atlanta, Georgia, Grayton Beach, Florida, and Maggie Valley, North Carolina, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Miami, Arizona, and Gainesville, Florida, where he developed his passion for Florida Gator football. He eventually returned to his beloved Pensacola to be close to family.
Steve loved his family and friends very much and he was fiercely loyal. He will be deeply missed. Although he never married or had children, he loved his nieces and nephews like they were his own. Steve volunteered to help with many youth sports teams that his nieces and nephews participated in throughout the years. He really enjoyed volunteering at his alma mater, J. M. Tate High School with the tennis and JV football team before he started having health issues.
He is preceded in death by his father, Calvin C. Mathis.
He is survived by his stepfather, Cecil R. Franklin; mother, Ida Nette Franklin; sister, Diane Kuykendall (Doug); his sister, Kaye Antone (Ronnie); step-sister, Sandy Erb (Bob); and his many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Visitation services for Stephen Glenn Mathis will be held Monday, November 13, 2023 at 10:30 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Pastor Bill Flannigan officiating. Steve will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore, Alabama.

Catherine Carlene “Carla” Yeager

Catherine Carlene “Carla” Yeager, 85, of Cantonment, Florida passed away peacefully at home Thursday, November 2, 2023. Catherine was born February 11, 1938 in Highsprings, Florida to the late, Katie Corene Davis. She graduated from Bronson High School in 1957 and married Robert “Bobby” Yeager, Sr on November 22, 1961 in Jacksonville, Florida. She loved and honored her family and friends well. She exemplified beauty, kindness, faithfulness, strength and courage to all that knew her. Her strong faith carried her through life and into the arms of Jesus.
Catherine is preceded in death by her mother, Katie Corene Davis; her husband, Robert Lee “Bobby” Yeager, Sr; and her son, Robert Lee Yeager, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Robin Hicks Wopat (Marvin); granddaughter, Hannah Grace Hicks; sister, Patricia “Patsy” Sheppard; brothers, Darrell, Dale, and Arnold Davis; along with many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Catherine Carlene Yeager will be held Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North. The family invites friends for reception following the service.

Edmond Nathan Knowles

Mr. Edmond Nathan Knowles, age 80, went to Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 26, 2023. He passed peacefully at his home in Flomaton, AL, surrounded by family.
Mr. Knowles was born February 16, 1943 in Century, FL. He lived most of his life in Flomaton, having moved from Range, AL as a young boy. He was a faithful member of Little Escambia Baptist Church.
He graduated from Flomaton High School, class of 1961. While there, he played baseball and basketball and was very talented in each sport, especially baseball. He served in the Alabama National Guard from 1964-1970. He married the love of his life, Luverne, on July 14, 1966. They settled in Davis Subdivision in Flomaton, where they raised their 4 children and shared 55 wonderful years together.
He loved hunting and fishing and was an avid sports fan. When he wasn’t watching the Atlanta Braves or the Alabama Crimson Tide, he enjoyed spending time with his family and working in his garden. He could often be found outside, working with his hands, whether it was carpentry or mechanic work. He was a man of many talents, including drawing, and he could often be heard whistling while he worked. In 2005, after nearly four decades of saving, he cashed in his collection of 1,380,459 pennies, totaling $13,804.59, breaking the world record of the largest private penny collection.
He began his career working at the Rebel Oil gas station in Century, FL in the early sixties, and soon became a manager at the Rebel station in Flomaton. He later purchased that station, which at the time was called TCR, and renamed it Ed’s Service Station. It is still remembered by many as the TCR and always associated with Mr. Ed. He operated it for 43 years. After retiring and closing the station in 2006, he returned to work as a sales representative with Phillip Morris and a few years later he went to work at Advance Auto Parts in Flomaton where he worked until August 2023.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Luverne Morris Knowles; his parents, Edward Nathan Knowles and Doris Florine Blackwell Knowles; three brothers, Paul Knowles, Wayne Knowles, and Donald Knowles; daughter-in-law Krystle Knowles; and great-grandson, Evan Wolfe.
He is survived by two sons, Larry Knowles and Marcus Knowles, both of Brewton, AL; two daughters, Debbie (Eddie) Simmons of Flomaton, AL, and Lisa Knowles of Flomaton, AL; two brothers, Edward Knowles and Raybon Knowles, and a sister, Jean Knowles; four grandchildren, Meredith Wolfe, Alayna Simmons, Nathan Knowles, and Jack Knowles; three great-grandchildren, Scarlett Boutwell, Elias Wolfe, and Oliver Harris, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 3, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC with Reverend Jonathan Hill and Reverend Larry Patterson officiating.
Burial will follow at Little Escambia Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 6 PM until 9 PM at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC.
Pallbearers will be Marcus Knowles, Brandon Knowles, Arness Knowles, Tommy Knowles, Timothy Knowles, and Eddie Conway.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Knowles, Terry Knowles, William Blackwell, Buster Crapps, Darryl Fore, Mickey Powell, and Andre Deslonde.

Charles Izelle Bailey

Charles Izelle Bailey resident of Pensacola, Florida passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at the age of 64. He was born in Atmore, Alabama on August 2, 1959 to the late Marion B. Bailey and Eunice Hall Bailey. Charles was an automotive painter by trade and worked for Coastal Paint and Body.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping with friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; maternal grandparents, Leslie and Lottie Hall; paternal grandparents, Izelle and Ruth Bailey; and numerous other loved ones.
Charles is survived by son, John Alec Bailey (Tara); granddaughter, Arianna Mollie Jane Day of Pensacola, Florida; sister, Judy (Carl) Daley of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; brother, Randy (Melodie) Bailey of Travelers Rest, South Carolina; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2023 at Victory Assembly of God with Pastor Jeff McKee officiating. Burial will follow in Bay Springs Full Gospel Church Cemetery. Jacquelyn Daniel Presley (Jackie), beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully October 16, 2023, at the age of 90 in her home community of Nokomis, Alabama.
Jackie grew up in Nokomis, Ala., attended Perdido Elementary and Perdido Junior High and Escambia County High School. She graduated from Mobile Infirmary School of Nursing with her RN degree. She was employed with Greenlawn Hospital, now known as
Atmore Community Hospital, for 42 years. Her hobbies included gardening, fishing, cooking, baking, being active in her church, watching Alabama football and spoiling her grandchildren. She was well known in her community for her cooking, especially her
cheese straws.
Jackie is preceded in death by her parents Perlie Edward and Leona Jeter Daniel; her husband James Ollie Presley, Jr.; son, Edward Allen Presley (Eddie), daughter-in-law Debra Presley; grandson Troy Allen Presley; great-granddaughter Gabriella Casey;
brother Joe Edward Daniel (Sue); and sisters Geraldine Williams (Frank) and Edro Hall (Ray).
Jackie (known as Jack to her family) is survived by her children Laura Presley Smith (Don) and Mark Daniel Presley; six grandchildren: Allison Presley Wynn (Guy), Anna Presley, Stephanie Roberts Maddox (Walt), Eric Roberts (Morgan), and Kelley Presley

Darral Ray Walkera age 65, passed away, Monday, October 23, 2023, at his home in Marrero, LA. A native of Atmore, AL; and a resident of Marrero the last 29 years.
Mr. Walker was an avid fisherman, who also enjoyed building and remodeling houses. He was an avid Alabama Football Fan and New Orleans Saints Fan.
Mr. Walker is preceded in death by his father, Floyd Willard Walker, mother, Jewell White Amerson, step-father, Jessie Amerson, and one son, Darral Ray Walker, Jr.
He is survived by his one daughter, Dianna Walker (Keith) Brooks, of Uriah, AL; two brothers, Keith (Kaylee) Amerson, of Katy, TX; Jody (Felicia) Amerson, of Katy, TX; two grandchildren, Natalie Brooks, Nathan Brooks and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 27, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC. with Sister, Helen Stewart officiating.

Alexander “AD” Owens Jr.

t is a sad day to announce the passing of Alexander “AD” Owens Jr. Known for his unwavering dedication to his family, and his profession, AD left a legacy of love, mentorship, and an enduring legacy.
AD lived his 82 years of life between Monroeville, AL and Destin FL. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Emily Owens; two daughters, Anita Dienes (JP Dienes) and Maria Owens-Wicker (Brian Wicker); grandchildren, AJ Dienes, Erica Dienes, Jayden Wicker, Abigail Wicker, Torey Morphew (Justin Morphew), Destiny Embry (Neal Embry); 2 great-grandchildren; beloved nieces, nephews and many cousins that he loved very much.
During his working years, AD was a fixture in the Destin community for over three decades prior to his retirement, where he became known as the passionate little league baseball coach. His commitment to the young athletes was unparalleled, instilling not only a love for the game but also life lessons that extended far beyond the baseball diamond. He was more than just a coach; he was a mentor and a role model who helped shape the character of countless young players.
His professional life was equally distinguished. AD was a brilliant mathematician who dedicated 37 years to serving his country through his work with the Department of Defense. His contributions to national security were immeasurable, and his dedication to excellence set a high standard for all who worked alongside him.
AD overcame many challenges in his life, demonstrating remarkable resilience and strength. His journey inspired those around him, showing the power of determination and the capacity to conquer any obstacle.
As a mentor, AD was a consummate example. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer guidance, and share his vast knowledge and experience. His influence extended beyond the workplace, as he consistently nurtured the growth and success of those who had the privilege of working with him.
In his later years, AD may have been a little ornery, but those that knew him understood he has no issue standing with you in the face of adversity. Friends and family knew he had a kind heart underneath the tough exterior that was AD. He treated everyone he met like an old friend, making instant connections with his warmth, humor, and genuine interest in their lives.
The world may be a little dimmer without AD’s presence, but the impact he made will shine on in the memories of those who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy lives on through his daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the countless lives he touched and the wisdom he shared.
Alexander “AD” Owens will be forever missed but never forgotten. As we remember the laughter and wisdom he brought into our lives, we find solace in the knowledge that his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
A celebration of AD’s life will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Petty Funeral Home in Atmore, Alabama. Visitation will begin at 10am. Service will be held at 11am.
A celebration of life service will also be held at Angels Assisted Living Connerton in Land O’Lakes, FL on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at 3:30pm.

Jon Eric Seamon, 80, of Cantonment, FL passed away Sunday, October 22, 2023, at home inCantonment, FL. He was born to Eugene and Virginia Seamon on August 17, 1943, in Natchez, MS. Jon proudly served his country in the United States Army. He earned ranking as an Expert Riflemanand was in the Army Security Agency (ASA) as a Morse code intercept operator affectionately known as “ditty- boppers”. Less than one half of one percent were assigned to this career field. After being honorably discharged from military service Jon had a long career at the Monsanto Corporation as an industrial engineer working in the nylon development research department and retired in August of 1999. He was an avid fisherman and a huge fan of NASCAR, and especially the late, great Dale Earnhardt.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years Veronica (Frazier) Seamon; sons, Eric Seamon and Ryan Seamon; sisters, Sandra (Dave) Schultz and Sherry (Mike) McRann; brothers, Larry (Delaine) Seamon and Kevin Seamon; multiple nieces and nephews; his two lifelong best friends and fishing buddies, John Yuknis and Bob Aaron.
Visitation will be held Saturday, October 28 th from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North (1000 S Hwy 29, Cantonment, FL 32533).
The funeral service will be held at Faith Chapel North on Monday, October 30 th from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Park Stallworth Young

Park Stallworth Young, born May 7, 1952, passed away October 22, 2023 in his home in Pace, Florida surrounded by his family.
Park was preceded in death by his parents Vivian Stallworth Young and Clarence Walter Young.
Park is survived by his wife of 35 years, Karen Gail Young; his daughter, Ashley Long; his son-in-law who qualified more as a son, Thomas Long; and the two greatest joys in his life, his grandsons, Triston Long and Cameron Long.
Park was born in Atmore, Alabama and he lived a majority of his life in Walnut Hill, Florida. He resided in Pace, Florida at the time of his passing.
Park had a rewarding, wonderful career working in offshore oilfields. He was a superintendent and oversaw the construction and maintenance of oil rigs until he was blessed to retire at 64 years old.
Park loved a simple life, enjoying working in his shop and going on golf cart rides along trails with his grandsons and his lab, Tucker. He loved cooking for others, telling “dad” jokes, and teaching his grandsons numerous handy skills in his shop. Park enjoyed fishing, gardening, and all aspects of nature.
At his request, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, Park would love to know that children from St. Jude Hospital or the Shriners would benefit from a donation in his name.

Mrs. Dean McCauley Jones, age 86, of Century, FL. passed away on October 18,
2023. She was a member of the Brewton congregation of Jehovah Witness.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Winford Jones; son,
Mikel Jones; and three brothers, Clifton McCauley, Clyde McCauley and Charles
McCauley.
She is survived by four sons, Vinson(Janet) Jones of Tallahassee, FL, Gerald (Lisa)
Jones of Flomaton, AL, Terry (Pamela) Jones of Jennings, LA, and Ron (Yenny)
Jones of Mobile, AL; three daughters, Sherry (Bruce) Waters of Flomaton, AL,
Belinda (Tom) Arrington of Flomaton, AL, and Rose (Richard) Ash of Century,
FL; two sisters, Gloria Cann of Pensacola, FL and Freida Cruz of Houston, TX; 18
grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
As a Jehovah Witness, she passed with eyes of faith, peaceful and courageously.
Her victory is sure.
Services will be announced at a later date.
