Century, Cantonment Cable Customers Could Lose WEAR
November 30, 2010
Cable television subscribers in Century and Cantonment are in danger of losing WEAR TV 3, the local ABC affiliate.
The current retransmission agreement that allows Bright House Networks to deliver the Sinclair Broadcast Group owned WEAR expires on December 31. That contract is still in the negotiation stage.
“If another agreement is not reached by the end of the year, our programming will no longer be available on their system,” WEAR Operations Manager Joe Smith said.
“Unfortunately, based on the status of the negotiations Sinclair does not believe we are going to be able to reach agreement on an extension of the deal,” according to statement released by Sinclair. “As a result, (Bright House) would no longer be carrying the stations covered by the agreement with Sinclair beginning on January 1, 2011.”
“As a normal part of business operations, our agreements with channels come up periodically for renewal. As a negotiating tactic, sometimes the channel owner threatens to take its channel off of the cable system. While this is an extreme measure, it rarely happens in our markets. Most channel owners stay on and put our mutual customers first,” Bright House said in a statement on their website.
In information aired on WEAR, the station is urging Bright House customers in Century and Cantonment to begin considering other methods to received WEAR 3.
“We are telling them to make plans to receive the station elsewhere, like DIRECTV, Dish Network or over the air with an antenna,” Smith said.
Bright House does not currently carry WEAR sister station WFGX MyTV 35. However, Smith said part of the Sinclair negotiations with Bright House would include adding the station to the cable provider’s lineup.

Milton Man Arrested For North Santa Rosa Double Homicide
November 29, 2010
A Milton man has been charged in connection with a September double homicide in north Santa Rosa County.
Robert Lee Hobart, 41, is charged with the deaths of Robert Hamm, 41, and Tracie Tolbert, 43. The couple was discovered shot to death September 22 on Jesse Allen Road in Allentown. Both victims died from gunshot wounds, according to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office.
“Hobart was developed as a suspect in the murders early during the investigation but detectives waited for conclusive forensic evidence before making the arrest,” according to Marc Ward, spokesperson for the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office.
Hobart has been in the Santa Rosa County Jail since October 4 on unrelated drug charges. His arrest was delayed as investigators waited for the results of DNA tests, Ward said. The murder weapon was recovered, and investigators said ballistics tests matched the weapon to both the shell casings and the bullets recovered from the crime scene.
A resident of Jesse Allen Road called authorities to report what looked like a large amount of blood in Jesse Allen Road. When deputies arrived, deputies found the two bodies on opposite sides of the roadway.
Jesse Allen Road runs west off Highway 87, about 18 miles south of Jay and not far from Central High School.

The Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff’s Office located the unnamed evidence against Rice while investigating the death of her husband, Atmore dentist Dr. Thomas Rice, late last year. She was released from the Escambia County (Ala.) Detention Center on $300,000 bond.
Dr. Thomas Alvin Rice, Jr., 54, was found dead from a gunshot wound at his Nokomis home on November 21, 2009. Authorities said the death was an apparent suicide and unrelated to any alleged marital problems between the couple.
Atmore Man Sentenced For North Escambia Burglary
November 29, 2010
An Atmore man has been sentenced to just under a year in jail for a North Escambia burglary.
Brady Lee Mosley, 52, of McRae Street, was found guilty on felony charges of burglary and larceny. He was sentenced to 11 months and 15 days in the Escambia County Jail by Judge Nickolas P. Geeker.
About 1 p.m. July 11, Escambia County Sheriffs’ Office investigators said Mosley took five automotive radiators from a workshop at a home in the 10000 block of Highway 97 in the Davisville community. Witnesses reported seeing a 1995 tan Mercury Marquis with an Alabama tag backed into the carport area of the workshop. The suspect removed five radiators worth about $500 from the workshop area, according to a Sheriff’s Office report.
A witness confronted Mosley, at which time he fled north on Highway 97 in the Mercury Marquis. The witness followed Mosley as he turned west on Nokomis Road, to Rockaway Creek Road to Miller Road. Knowing that Miller Road was a dead end, the witness parked his car and waited while on the phone with a Sheriff’s Office dispatcher. When Mosley exited Miller Road a short time later, the witness again followed him back to Nokomis Road. That’s where the witness stopped the chase because he said the man believed to be Mosley was driving erratically at a high rate of speed.
Two witnesses reported that Mosley had a juvenile male about 11-years old in the car at the time of the incident.
The burglary victim reported that several items in the workshop had been tampered with or moved, but only the radiators were missing.
According to the Sheriff’s Office report, the Mercury was registered to the Mosley’s stepfather, and his roommate in Atmore told authorities that Mosley had left home in the vehicle just prior to the incident. Two witnesses independently picked Mosley out of separate photo lineups.
