First Baptist Bratt Is Operation Christmas Child Central

Volunteers will be busy for the next week at the First Baptist Church of Bratt during “National Collection Week” for Operation Christmas Child. For the 17th year, the simple, gift-filled shoe boxes will bring Christmas joy and evangelistic materials to children in over 130 countries across the world.
The First Baptist Church of Bratt will be the official Operation Christmas Child Relay Center for North Escambia and will also accept boxes from Escambia County, Ala.
“This is not about the FBC of Bratt”, said student Pastor Tim Hawsey. “Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational non-profit organization that has mission’s opportunities all over the world. This is about being a blessing and bringing God’s love and hope to children in poverty around the world that would not receive it otherwise. We have gone through the intense process of being approved as a church to be a Relay Center to collect the boxes from individuals, families, and churches in our area, document and pack them into special cartons and take them to the next level for Samaritan’s Purse, and we are glad to do it!”
The Christmas boxes collected at FBC Bratt will be delivered to children in Panama, Ukraine, Macedonia, Bahamas, Uganda, Lebanon, Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia, Seychelles, Togo, Benin, Belize, Ecuador and Madagascar.
“It is so exciting,” Hawsey said.

Cantonment Cowboys Advance In Youth Playoffs; NWE, NEP And Jay Out

With weekend wins, the Cantonment Cowboys are headed to round two of the Gulf Coast Youth Alliance football playoffs next Saturday. For Jay’s mini mites, Cantonment and Northwest Escambia’s midgets, and Cantonment and Northwest Pensacola’s juniors, the season is over.
Here are scores from round one of the Gulf Coast Youth Alliance football playoffs on Saturday:
Mighty Mites
The Cantonment Cowboys defeated Gulf Breeze 30-0. Cantonment will face Bellview next Saturday.
Mini Mites
East Pensacola beat the Jay Royals, 30-0.
The Cantonment Cowboys shutout Milton Black, 30-0. Cantonment will play Milton Gold next Saturday.
Midgets
Bellview Green got past the Cantonment Cowboys 13-7, and Northwest Escambia lost to Navarre Silver, 30-0.
Juniors
Pace defeated Cantonment 36-14, and East Pensacola defeated Northeast Pensacola 30-0.

FFA Smoked Meat, Citrus Sales Underway

The annual Northview High School FFA Alumni Smoked Turkey and Boston Butt Sale is now underway, just in time for Thanksgiving. And, the Northview FFA’s Fruit Sale is also underway.
Turkeys And Boston Butts
In the annual fund raiser, you can choose either a seven to nine pound smoked Boston butt or a 10-12 pound smoked turkey for $28 each.
Boston butts will be available for pickup on Monday, November 21, and the the smoked turkeys will be available for pickup on Tuesday, November 22.
Proceeds from the sale will go to benefit the Northview High School FFA Scholarship Fund. The sale is sponsored by Archie’s Catering Smokehouse in Molino. For a printable order form, click here. Orders must be placed by Tuesday, November 15.
Fruit Sale
The NHS FFA is selling citrus in attractive 2/5, 1/2 or 4/5 bushel boxes perfect for gift wrapping. The Florida citrus is from RiverBrite in Vero Beach.
Orders must be made by Tuesday, November 29. The delivery date is Tuesday, December 13.

Fruits available include red apples, grapefruit, navel oranges, tangelos and Hamlin oranges. Mixed trio half bushels are also available.

Blues Wow Hometown Crowd (With Photo Gallery)

Nearly 200,000 people attend the Blue Angels Homecoming Air Show Friday and Saturday.
Hometown spectators were wowed by the world famous Blue Angels F/A 18 Hornet performances with perfect flying weather at Sherman Field aboard Pensacola Naval Air Station. Before the Blues, their C-130 Hercules transport known as “Fat Albert” thrilled the crowd with its short field take-off and low level passes.
The show also included the F/A Super Hornet Tactical Demonstration Team from the “Gladiators” of VFA-106 and a demonstration by an Air Force A-10 Warthog. A replica of the first aircraft to take off from a ship, the Ely-Curtis Pusher took to the air, along with several other vintage aircraft.

Molino Park, Jim Allen Conducting Food Drives

Food drives are currently underway at two North Escambia elementary schools.
Molino Park Elementary School is sponsoring a school-wide “Help Our Neighbor” Food Drive through Wednesday, November 16th. The drive provides an opportunity for students to learn the importance of remembering those in need at this time of giving thanks. The top three classes collecting the most food will be announced on November 17 at the fourth grade production of “On The Radio.” Performances will be held at 1 p.m. for students and 6:30 p.m. for family and friends.
Laura Jackson’s fifth grade class at Jim Allen Elementary School is helping Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen by gathering nonperishable food items to help families for Thanksgiving. Donations will be accepted through Thursday, November 17th.
Satsumas Available From Davisville Man’s Orchard

A local man was selling the fruits of his labor last week— satsumas from his orchard. Jimmie Davis sold the fruit from nearly 67 satsuma trees on Highway 97 in Davisville.
They are better than an orange, and they peel like a tangerine,” according to his daughter Karen Jay.
By Sunday, all of Davis’ satsumas were sold out.

Seven Hour SWAT Standoff Ends Peacefully

A Pensacola man is undergoing psychological evaluation after a seven hour standoff with police that began after he refused to allow a welfare check on his children Saturday.
The incident began just before 10 a.m. after a relative of the 34-year-old man called police and said the man had been behaving irrationally and he was afraid for the safety of the children, ages 10 and 13, said Pensacola Police Department Lt. Steve Ordonia.
When officers arrived at the residence in the 3900 block of North 12th Avenue, the man refused to answer the door or to talk with officers. Because of safety concerns, SWAT officers were called to the home around 10:50 a.m., Ordonia said.
After approximately five hours of negotiations, the man fell asleep and one of the children answered the telephone when an officer called inside. The officer talked the children into coming outside.
Police said negotiations resumed a short time later when the man awakened. The incident ended around 5:30 p.m. after officers forced their way into the house and talked the man into coming downstairs where he was taken into custody.
No weapons were found in the house, and no one was injured. The children are now staying with another family member, Ordonia said.
