Woman Now Charged For Abandoning Kids In Bratt

A Walnut Hill woman arrested last week in Atmore is now behind bars in Florida after allegedly abandoning five young children at a Bratt Park and driving under the influence to an Atmore business with another child in her vehicle.
Amber Rose Ryals, age 25 of North Pine Barren Road, was booked into the Escambia County (Fla.) Jail late Wednesday morning on multiple counts of cruelty toward a child and for failing to appear in court for violating her probation in a March 2010 driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident case. She remained in jail early Thursday morning with bond set at $27,500.
Ryals is charged in Alabama with driving under the influence of narcotics, theft of property and endangering the welfare of a child in Alabama.
Five children were found alone at the Lcpl. Travis M. Nelson Park near Northview High School about noon on December 19. A concerned citizen had noticed that the children, believed to range in age from 3 to 6, were alone in the park. She called the Escambia County (Fla.) Sheriff’s Office and reported the situation.
Meanwhile in Atmore, employees at Burke’s Outlet on Lindberg Avenue reported to the Atmore Police Department that Ryals was in a vehicle directly in front of their store. They told police that they witnessed Ryals take a bottle of medication and numerous pills to the point where she was incoherent and confused.
Police said there was as small child about one year old in the backseat of the vehicle. Officers also discovered that she had taken several items from a nearby Fred’s store without paying for them. Ryals told Atmore Police that she could not remember how she got to Burke’s.
Ryals was transported by ambulance to Atmore Community Hospital for evaluation before being booked into the Escambia County (Ala.) Detention Center in Brewton.
The Alabama Department of Human Resources and the Florida Department of Children of Families are both investigating the incident.
Four of the six children involved in the incident belonged to Ryals, police said, while two were nieces or nephews. None of the children were injured. They were released into the custody of a relative.

East Pond Street In Century To Close Next Week

East Pond Street in Century will be closed next week for a scheduled drainage improvement project.
The street will be closed Monday through Friday from Jefferson Avenue west to Ramar Street near Highway 29, according to the Town of Century.

Traffic Stops Ends With 19-Year Old Facing Felony Drug Charge

A 19-year old Cantonment resident was charged with felony drug possession after a traffic stop not far from Tate High School.
An Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped Kyle Mason Driver on Tate Road at Planta Canada Drive due to window tint that was observed to be excessively dark. According to an arrest report, the deputy smelled what he believed to be the odor of burnt marijuana from his 2008 Ford F150. Driver refused to give the deputy consent to search the vehicle and a K-9 was called to the scene.
The K-9 alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle located 20 Oxycodone pills in the vehicle, according to deputies.
Driver was released from the Escambia County Jail on $5,000 bond.

Two Charged In Double Shooting Near Baptist Hospital

Two 20-year olds were arrested and charged with homicide Wednesday in connection with a double shooting near Baptist Hospital.
Novel Austin and James Emanuel Dortch have been charged by the Pensacola Police Department with the December 17 shooting death of 17-year old Keondrick Abrams of Pensacola. Another 17-year old, Tykey Douglas, was shot and critically wounded.
Austin and Dortch are being held in the Escambia County Jail without bond.
The shooting happened outside the Baptist Hospital Sleep Disorders Clinic on West Moreno Street about 7:15 on December 17. Abrams was pronounced dead at the scene, while Douglas was transported to Baptist Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

America’s Most Wanted Dewayne ‘Money’ Pinestraw Extradited To Escambia

Recently named one of America’s Most Wanted, a Cantonment resident that was the suspected triggerman in the shooting of a Pensacola toddler is now back in Escambia County.
Dewayne “Money” Pinestraw of Lake Drive, Cantonment, was extradited Tuesday from Texas and booked into the Escambia County Jail. He is being held without bond on an open count of murder for the shooting death of Ty’Quarius Moultrie, 19 months old; aggravated battery for the shooting of Vincent Dennis, 23; and firing a weapon into an occupied building for the incident that occurred in July at Pensacola Village, 500 East Fairfield Drive.
On the run since July, Pinestraw, 19, was apprehended last week in Dallas by the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force.
Pinestraw, using the alias “Nicholas Williams” was found hiding out at a house believed to be the home of a girl he befriended in recent months. According to U.S. Marshals on the scene, they had to force the door open to apprehend him, where they recovered a 9 mm handgun, marijuana and fake identification. The marshals were able to capture Pinestraw only 48 hours after his story aired on the TV program America’s Most Wanted.
“Although we had leads to the Dallas area we could never pinpoint his location,” said Inspector Dominic Guadagnoli of the Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force in Pensacola. “It’s simple; without AMW (America’s Most Wanted) he’d still be a fugitive.”
Man Shot By Police Now Facing Charges

The man shot by Pensacola Police last Friday is now facing charges.
Robert Jason Donson, 25, was charged late Tuesday afternoon with five felonies — aggravated battery, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and carrying a concealed weapon — according to Escambia County Jail records.
Donson remains hospitalized and guarded in an area hospital that has not been disclosed. He is being held without bond. His condition has not been released by Pensacola Police, but he is shown sitting up and conscious in a booking photo.
He was shot about 5:45 p.m. Friday outside Tom And Buddy’s lounge and liquor store on West Cervantes Street. He reportedly got into a scuffle with member of the Pensacola Police Department’s Vice and Narcotics Unit.
The scuffle began after officers, who had identified themselves as police and were wearing “POLICE” vests, exited a vehicle with blue lights. As Sgt. John Austin began to take Donson into custody, he began to resist and attempted to reach a firearm in his jacket pocket.
Court records indicate that Donson has felony convictions over the last six year, including several drug charges, robbery and resisting arrest with violence.
The incident is under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, as is normal with officer involved shootings. Auston remains on paid administrative leave during the investigation.

Escambia Voters To Receive New ID Cards In The Mail

All voters in Escambia County will be mailed a new voter information card beginning this week.
The updated card will reflect district changes approved over the past few months by the Escambia County Commission, School Board and City of Pensacola redistricting process following the 2010 Census.
Most voters will not see a change in their polling place for the upcoming January 31, 2012 Presidential Preference Primary election, according to Supervisor of Elections David Stafford.
However, a more substantial change in precincts and polling locations will occur following the redistricting of congressional and legislative districts by the Florida Legislature next year. For that reason, all voters will receive another card prior to the August primary election.
Voters should be on the lookout for their new card, and contact the elections office immediately with any necessary updates.
Voter information cards are not required when voting; Florida requires photo and signature ID when voting in person.
