Family Homeless After Fire Destroys Gonzalez Home

A single mom and her 13-year old daughter and 18 month old son were able to escape without injuries from a fire that heavily damaged their Gonzalez home Saturday morning.
The fire was reported in the single story brick home about 8:50 a.m. on Mates Circle, north of Kings Way Drive off East Kingsfield Road. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Four Injured In Morning Crash On Highway 29

At least four people were injured in a two vehicle crash Saturday morning on Highway 29 at 9 1/2 Mile Road.
The accident happened about 6 a.m. involving a pickup truck and car. Three people were briefly trapped in the car before being extricated by firefighters.Four people were transported area hospitals, one listed as a “trauma alert”.
The accident remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. Further details have not been released.
The Ensley, Brent and Ferry Pass stations of Escambia Fire Rescue, Escambia County EMS and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the crash.

Paving Operations On Highway 89 Near Jay Rescheduled

Paving operations scheduled to begin today on State Road 89 in Santa Rosa County have been rescheduled.
Motorists traveling Highway 89 from Bragg Creek south to County Road 178 in Santa Rosa County can expect daytime lane restrictions as crews begin laying the final layer of asphalt on Saturday, March 16. Paving operations are expected to be complete within one week.
There will be no lane closures allowed from 6:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Access to businesses and residences will be maintained throughout the construction zone.
Construction activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or re-scheduled in the event of inclement weather. Motorists are reminded to obey the posted speed limit when traveling through the work zone, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.
Winning $244,230 Fantasy 5 Ticket Sold In Molino

A winning ticket worth $244,230.09 in Thursday night’s Florida Lottery Fantasy 5 drawing was sold in Molino.
The Quick Pick ticket, with numbers 13-28-30-32-35 was sold at the Molino First Stop, 6530 Highway 95A.
There was only one winning ticket sold for Friday night’s drawing. There were also 299 tickets with four correct numbers worth $131.50 each, and 8,801 with three of five numbers worth $12.50 each.

The Northview Lady Chiefs remained undefeated after a 4-3 win over the Baker Lady Gators Friday night in Bratt. The Lady Chiefs improved to 7-0 on the season. The Lady Chiefs will host Jay on Tuesday.

Fire Heavily Damages Ensley Mobile Home

A late night fire that damaged a Mobile home in Ensley is under investigation.
The fire was reported about 11:30 p.m. Friday on Callahan Place, just north of I-10, in Ensley. The mobile home was reportedly full of smoke when the first firefighters arrived on scene. There were no injuries reported.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office. The Ensley, Bellview, Brent, and Ferry Pass stations of Escambia Fire Rescue responded to the fire.

All Star Basketball: Escambia County’s West Beats East

It was a battle of the All-Stars as the best of the best from Escambia County on the West team battled an East Team from Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties in both boys and girls basketball.
In girls action, Escambia’s best on the West team defeated the East 71-64 at Pensacola State College.
In boys action, the West, with players from Escambia County, beat the East 89-76.
Players for the West teams, with North Escambia area schools in bold, were:

Hunter Edwards was named Junior Mr. Miss Ernest Ward Middle School in a womanless beauty pageant Friday night. First runner-up was Jacob Weaver, and second runner-up was Luke Ward. Edwards also received the audience vote People’s Choice Award.

Second Arrest Made In Cantonment Murder

A second arrest has been made in connection with a deadly drug-related home invasion late last year in Cantonment.
D’Montrey Antuan James, age 24 of Cantonment, was arrested overnight and is being held without bond in the Escambia County Jail on a charge of homicide. James and 32-year old Robert Dale Purifoy of Cantonment, who was arrested earlier this week, are accused of the murder of Amber Tricona Johnson.
Johnson, 22, who was shot and killed during an exchange of gunfire during a home invasion on Stefani Circle. Johnson was found dead inside the home from an apparent gunshot wound.
An undisclosed amount of money and a “significant” quantity of marijuana was found at the scene, leading investigators to believe that robbery was a motive
