Northview Chiefs Name Players Of The Week; Lett Sets School Rushing Record

The Northview Chiefs, now ranked No. 5 in the latest state football poll, have named players of the week from last Friday night’s win over Jay, including an offensive player that set a new school record.
Senior Keondrae Lett was named Offensive Player of the Week with 313 total rushing yards, a single game school record. Lett amassed the rushing yardage on 15 carries for three touchdowns — that’s a 20.9 yard per carry average. He also recorded one catch for 24 yards and a touchdown. Lett has 842 total rushing yards for the season, plus 82 yards receiving.
Defensive Player of the Week is Jaylen Parker with 13 total tackles including three tackles for a loss and two sacks.
The Special Teams Player of the Week was Chasen Freeman who was 5 of 6 on point after attempts, had two touchbacks and averaged 36 yards on punts.
And the Chief’s Dominator Award went to to Kadarious Johnson for a tackle on kickoff.
Ernest Ward Cross Country Takes On TRM Challenge (With Gallery)

The Ernest Ward Middle School Cross County team joined about 400 other runners Saturday morning at the T.R. Miller Cross Country Challenge in Brewton.

Northview Sinks Jay 53-20 In District Opener (With Photo Gallery)

The Northview Chiefs open district play Friday night with a big 53-20 win over the Jay Royals,.
“I thought we executed well on offense,” he said. “Our backs had a tremendous night, especially Keondrae Lett. Our defense…we gave up a couple of plays, but we were able to get key stops.”

Lett racked up 300 yards and four touchdowns against the Royals at Tommy Weaver Memorial Stadium.
A 23-yard run from Cameron Newsome put the Chiefs on the board first 7-0 Friday Homecoming night. The Chiefs followed with 10:10 in the second with a touchdown from Tydre Bradley and at 6:16 with an 80-yard TD from Lett.
In the third, Newsome added another Northview touchdown, before Lett increased the Chiefs’ advantage to 34-7 with another touchdown. Lett scored touchdowns again with a 60-yarder with 2:26 to go in the third, and from 73 yards out with 10:30 in the fourth. Kardarius Jackson rounded out the Northview scoring with a 25-yard touchdown run with 6:56 to go in the fourth.
“It was a big game. Coach Kent Smith does a great job with that football team over there. They play hard,” Northview coach Sid Wheatley said.

The Chiefs are headed into another off week, with their next district game on the road October 17 against Freeport.
Niceville Tops Tate

The Tate Aggies lost their district opener on the road Friday night to the Niceville Eagles, 35-7.
The Eagles were on the board first with a short touchdown run. Tate answered with a 67-yard touchdown from Sawyer Smith to Reginald Payne to even it up 7-7. But Niceville went on to score 28 unanswered points against the Aggies for the win.
The Tate Aggies (4-2, 0-1) will host Washington next Friday night at 7:30.

Northview Dedicates The Tommy Weaver Memorial Stadium

Northview High School officially dedicated its stadium Thursday night as the Tommy Weaver Memorial Stadium in honor of the late Tommy Weaver, a beloved teacher and coach.
Weaver passed away in March 2012 at the age of 61, a few months before the Northview football team won its first-ever football state championship, culminating a season played in his honor. He was lovingly known as “Papa Weave” to most students.
A graduate of the University of West Alabama, he was Northview’s DCT coordinator and taught horticulture. He dedicated countless hours to baseball, football, the Quarterback Club, FFA and the FFA Alumuni. He was also a Senior Class sponsor and organized Northview’s first homecoming parade in 2011.
Weaver, husband of Northview High Principal Gayle Weaver, was remembered Thursday night by friends and co-workers as great man with an unwavering love of family, the Auburn Tigers and anything and everything related to the Northview Chiefs.
The dedication included the unveiling of a Tommy Weaver Memorial Stadium sign and a Chief statue with plaques donated by the Northview classes of 2013 and 2014.

Middle School Football: Ernest Ward Beats Jay (With Photo Gallery)

The Ernest Ward Eagles defeated the Jay Royals in middle school football Tuesday evening in Walnut Hill, 24-12.
The EWMS Eagles will travel to Graceville Saturday night at 6 p.m. before hosting Excel on Thursday, October 9.

Volleyball: Baker Sweeps Northview (With Photo Gallery)

In varsity action Tuesday evening, Baker defeated Northview in three straight, 25-7, 25-20, 25-13.
The Northview JV will host the Northview JV Tournament on Saturday, October 4. Both the varsity and junior varsity Lady Chiefs will be in action on Thursday, October 9 as they host Jay for Senior Night.

Tate Bounces Back For OT Win Over Pine Forest (With Photo Gallery)

Tate Aggie fans that left Pine Forest High early Friday night really missed out.
Down 26-12 with six minutes to go in the game, the Aggies rallied for a nail-biting 33-32 overtime win over the Pine Forest Eagles.
Running back Alondo Thompkins, a junior, scored a couple of touchdowns — six and five yards — late in the game for the tie. He also earned the OT points for the Aggies, in from 10 yards out. Chase Seibert was 3-3 on the accompanying extra point kicks.
The Aggies overtime win came as Pine Forest scored, went for two and fumbled the snap.
Earlier in the game, Tate scored in the first on a nine-yard pass from Sawyer Smith to Bradley Trambley and a good kick from Seibert for a 7-0 lead. Moments later, the Aggies added a couple on a forced safety.
The Aggies were scoreless in the second and had the only points of the third quarter on a 33-yard field goal from Seibert.

The win over Pine Forest was the second in a row for Tate, which snapped a nine-game losing streak to the Eagles last year.
Tate (4-1) will travel to Niceville next Friday night in their first district game of the season.
