Central High Makes History In Cross Country Meet

Central High School set a school record Thursday during a cross country meet at Baker as Beth Smith became the first girl to win a meet in school history with the girls team picking up their first-ever win.
Smith was followed by Kennedy Fuller in third and Erica Waters in fourth as Central defeated Baker, Laurel Hill, Paxton, Walton County and Rocky Bayou.
The Central boys placed second, with top school finisher Kyle Fuller coming in fourth.

The Northview Lady Chiefs and the Flomaton Hurricanes took part in a Dig Pink volleyball match Thursday evening to raise breast cancer awareness.
In varsity action, Northview fell to Flomaton 15-25, 27-25, 12-25, 20-25. JuniorMisty Doran had seven kills, one assist, two blocks and a dig for the Lady Chiefs as sophomore Lily Townson added one ace, three assists and a dig. Morgan Payne had two aces and a two kills, while Shelly Mothershed posted two aces, one kill and four assists. NHS is 4-14 overall, 3-3 in the district.
In junior varsity action, Northview defeated Flomaton 9-25, 25-12, 15-12. Rebecca Grim recorded one ace and two kills, and Hannah Fiellin contributed six aces and two assists. Tiffani Pritchett had six aces, one kill and four assists, and Kyndall Hall had four aces and three kills. The JV Lady Chiefs are 8-7 overall, 3-1 in the district.
Northview will travel to Baker on Tuesday, October 13. The JV takes to the court at 5 p.m. and the varsity plays at 6 p.m.

Ernest Ward Beats Blacksher

Volleyball: NHS Falls To Catholic

The Northview varsity and junior varsity fell to Catholic High School Tuesday evening in high school volleyball action.
The Chiefs will be in action again Thursday — the JV at 5:00 and the Varsity at 6:00 — in a “Dig Pink” game for breast cancer awareness against the Flomaton Hurricanes.
Varsity
Northview lost to Catholic 13-25, 8-25, 17-25.
Misty Doran had three aces, one kill, a block and a couple of digs for the Lady Chiefs, while Taylor Roberson had two digs. Morgan Payne record an ace and a kill for Northview, as Paeton Hadley added a kill and two digs.
With the loss, Northview’s varsity record stands at 4-13 overall, 3-3 in the district.
Junior Varsity
Northview lost to Catholic, 11-25, 13-25.
Rebecca Grim has an ace, four kills and two digs for the Lady Chiefs, as Danielle Steadham added a kill, a block and a dig. Tiffani Pritchett contributed three assists and an block for Northview, while Kyndall Hall posted one kill, one assist and two digs.
The JV Lady Chiefs are 7-7 overall, 3-1 in district play.
Volleyball: Jay, Flomaton Split

The Jay Royals and the Flomaton Hurricanes split varsity and junior varsity volleyball Tuesday.
In varsity action, the Flomaton Lady Hurricanes beat the Jay Lady Royals 11-25, 26-24, 25-21, 25-17.
In junior varsity action, Jay beat Flomaton, 25-16, 22-25, 15-10.
Two Escambia High Coaches Arrested

Two Escambia High School coaches have been arrested, charged with obstruction of justice.
Head Coach Scott Anderson (pictured) and Assistant Coach Timothy Jansky turned themselves in this morning at the Escambia County Jail on the misdemeanor charge.
The charges stem from a September 19th incident where one student struck another student. According to the report and witnesses, both Anderson and Jansky approached the victim
of the battery on separate occasions and told him that if he pursued charges against the suspect, they could not guarantee his safety and the student would not play football.
According to an arrest report, Escambia Principal Michael Sherrill, told Anderson that he was “to stay out of the matter and allow law enforcement to do their job”.
Anderson and Jansky were released on their own recognizance. Both are on paid administrative leave from the school.
Editor’s note: The Sheriff’s Office did not release Jansky’s mugshot. His arrest report lists him as a “law enforcement official, former, spouse, or child of LEO”.
Registration Continues For Chief Challenge 5k Run/Walk; Students Handcraft Awards

The Second Annual Chief Challenge 5K Run/Walk is coming up Saturday morning at Northview High School.
This week, Northview’s Materials and Processes Class students are making the awards for first through third place in each category. The students designed the award tomahawks in the class that has a focus on mass production techniques and use of materials.
The event will be held Saturday, October 8 at 8:30 a.m. at the school campus in Bratt.
Awards will be broken down to each grade level for males and females, as well as awards for adult, master and grand master. For a registration form and more details, click here.
Over 140 runners and walkers took part in last year’s Chief Challenge.

Football: Leaders Emerge In 1-6A and 1-5A, Not Yet In 1-1A

Five weeks into the high school football season, leaders are beginning to emerge in District 1-5A and 1-6A, while the 1-1A schools will play their very first district games this upcoming Friday night.
In District 1-6A, Pace (4-1, 2-0) and Pensacola (3-1,1-0) sit undefeated atop the standings heading into week six, while Tate (0-5, 0-2) sits at the bottom of the pack.
In District 1-5A, West Florida (5-0, 1-0) and Gulf Breeze (3-1, 1-0) are at the top of of District 1-5A.
This Friday night will see winners and losers begin to emerge in District 1-1A with the first district matchups of the season — Northview at Jay and Baker at Freeport.

Dig Pink Volleyball Matches To Benefit Breast Cancer Awareness

The Northview Lady Chiefs and the Flomaton Hurricanes will take part in a Dig Pink volleyball match this week to raise breast cancer awareness.
Dig Pink is an organization raising awareness for cancer through volleyball. A hospitality room will be available for survivors and cancer survivors will receive free admission to the games.
The Dig Pink event will take place Thursday, October 6 with the junior varsity playing at 5:00 and the varsity playing at 6:00 at Northview High School in Bratt.

Dobson Takes Eighth In Disney Half Marathon

Matt Dobson of Jay finished eighth overall in the second annual Disney World Wine & Dine Half-Marathon Saturday night at Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando.
Dobson, 42, finished the 13.1 mile course through Walt Disney World in 01:19:42. First place went to Anton Van Zyl of Fort Lauderdale with a time of 01:13:14.
Another area runner, Steve Harris of Pensacola, finished 19th overall with a time of 01:26:07.
There were more than 12,500 runners that took part in the night course, which began at 10 p.m. Eastern.
Dobson, a graduate of Jay High School, holds the distinction of being the only American to win the Disney World Marathon Championship with a first place finish in 2004. He finished the 2004 Boston Marathon 49th overall out of 20,000 runners and was the 16th fastest American.
Last year, Dobson finished the inaugural Disney World Wine & Dine Half-Marathon in second place.
