Tate Varsity, JV Beat Escambia

The Tate High varsity and junior varsity teams both beat Escambia High Friday.
Tate 8 Escambia 2 (Varsity)
Tate’s varsity baseball team beat the Escambia Gators Friday night 8-2 to improve their record to 3-0, 2-0 in the district.
Cody Palmer, pitching in relief of Gabe Gunter, pitch four and third strong innings giving up four hits while not allowing a run. Palmer had three strike outs.
Offensively, Austin Quina (1-2, 2 RBI’s), Andrew Mack (2-2, 2B RBI) and Tyler Curtis (1-2, 2B RBI) lead the way as the Aggies scored eight runs on 7 hits.
Tate’s varsity team is off next week but will be back in action on Tuesday, March 6 as they play host to Pine Forest in another district matchup.
Tate 15 Escambia 0 (JV)
The junior varsity Tate Aggies improved to 4-2 on the season with a big 15-0 shutout of the Escambia Gators Friday afternoon. The JV team’s next game will be March 6 when they travel to West Florida to take on the Jaguars.
Tate Aggies Beat Washingon 4-3; Tate’s JV Falls

The varsity Tate Aggies beat Washington High School Thursday night 4-3, while Washington got past Tate 4-3 in junior varsity play.

The Aggies came from behind again for the second game in a row on David Moorhead’s two run double in the top of the seventh inning. Riley Hodge threw a complete game allowing three
unearned runs on three hits while striking out six. Mac Seibert 2-4 RBI. JT Granat 1-3 HR RBI. Austin Quina 1-2 2B. Andrew Mack 2B.

Washington 4 Tate 3 (JV)
The junior varsity Tate Aggies fell to 3-2 on the season with a 4-3 loss to Washington Thurday afternoon. The JV Aggies will host Escambia at 4:30 Friday afternoon.
JV Aggies Fall To West Florida

The junior varsity Tate Aggies lost to West Florida High’s Jaguars in Wednesday night baseball action, 7-2.
With the loss, the JV Aggies are 3-1 on the season.
The JV Aggies will be in action again Thursday evening at 4:30 at Washington High School. Varsity action will follow at 7 p.m.
Northview, W.S. Neal Split Double Header

Northview’s JV baseball team split a double header with W. S. Neal Tuesday in Brewton. W. S. Neal won the first game 5-3, with the Chiefs taking the second game 5-3.
Destin Pizzolato led the Chiefs at the plate in the first game with two singles and a run scored. Chason Freeman and Jody Bonner also scored a run for the Chiefs. Daulton Tullis pitched 5 innings for Northview.
In the second game, the Chiefs’s Destin Pizzolato got the win on the mound, with strong relief from freshman Aaron McDonald. Leading hitters for Northview were Dalton Daniel and Daulton Tullis, each with a hit.
Northview’s JV will be back in action Thursday as they host Central at 4:00.
Northview JV, Varsity Beat Escambia Academy (With Gallery)

The Northview Lady Chiefs beat the Cougars of Escambia Academy Tuesday afternoon in both varsity and junior varsity softball.
The varsity Lady Chiefs beat the Cougars 15-5 with the game called in the fifth inning due to the 1o-run rule.
Mallory Ryan pitched the win for the Chiefs in five, allowing five hits, five runs and striking out two. Misty Doran was 3-4 with a double; Samantha Johnson went2-3 with two doubles and Shaquanna Jones was 2-4.
The varsity Lady Chiefs are 2-0 on the young season.
In JV action, Northview beat Escambia Academy 8-1.
The Lady Chiefs will be back in action Thursday on the road against the Baker Gators. The JV takes the field at 4:00, and the varsity plays at 6:00. Northview’s next home games are February 27 against Flomaton.

Tate Names Brad Naggatz As New Head Coach

The Tate High School Aggies have named Brad Naggatz at the their new football head coach, Principal Rick Shackle announced Tuesday afternoon.
Naggatz has been at Tate since 2006 where he has served as both offensive and defensive coordinator. He previously worked as offensive coordinator for Pensacola High School, and head coach at Catholic High School for about a decade.
Naggatz replaces Ed Rigby who had been at Tate for six seasons before resigning in January.
Rigby and Naggatz joined the Tate coaching staff at the same time, leading the the Aggies 22-39 overall performance with a playoff appearance in 2008.
The Aggies were winless during the 2011 season.
Bill Draws Opposition Over High School Sports Recruiting Concerns

Past concerns about recruiting players by high school teams is running square into the desire to foster school choice. A bill intended to open up public school sports programs to more kids who don’t go to public schools drew heavy debate Monday and opposition from organizations involved in scholastic athletics, who fear it may unintentionally open the door to more high school recruiting.
One of the main thrusts of the bill is to broaden the mechanism by which students at small independent and private schools can participate in interscholastic sports.
Right now, some students – those at really small schools that are too little to even contemplate fielding many athletic teams, and which in fact don’t offer sports programs – can play on their zoned public school team while attending the private school. Homeschoolers can too.
The bill would say that students at larger private schools could also play for their local public school. Another part of the bill changes the benefit of the doubt in cases in which a student changes schools within the school district in the middle of the school year to presume that the student wasn’t changing schools because he or she was recruited.
Under current rules, students who change schools mid-year when their family hasn’t moved, must sit out at their new school for a period if there’s an accusation of recruiting. The bill changes that to allow students who transfer to continue to play.
Officials with the Florida High School Athletic Association and the Florida Council of Independent Schools said the measure would increase recruiting of high school athletes by rival coaches.
But the response shouldn’t be to punish the players, said the bill sponsor, Rep. Kelli Stargel, R-Lakeland.
“I understand that recruiting is a big problem,” said Stargel. “But let the student play until you prove he’s been recruited.” The bill passed the committee and now goes to the Education Committee, its last stop before the floor.

Freshman Aggies Beat West Fla.

The Freshman Tate Aggies beat the West Florida Jaguars 11-4 on Saturday.
The Freshman Aggies will be in action again next Saturday at Washington High School and will travel to Escambia on Tuesday, February 28.
Lady Chiefs Beat Catholic: McCall Homers (With Video)

The Northview Lady Chiefs opened their regular season Friday afternoon with a 6-1 win over the Catholic Crusaders.
Senior Lauren McCall hit her first-ever home run for the Lady Chiefs (video below), while junior Misty Doran recorded 15 strikeouts for the win.
The Lady Chiefs will be action again next Tuesday as they play host to the Cougars of Escambia Academy. The junior varsity begins at 3:30, while the varsity is slated for 5:30. The Lady Chiefs will round out next week on the road Thursday against the Baker Gators.

Tate Opens Season With Win Over West Florida

The Tate Aggies came from behind in the bottom of the seventh Friday night, scoring three runs to take down West Florida 7-6.
Hunter Black doubled home two runs for the Aggies to secure Tate’s first win of the season. Cody Palmer was 3-4 with two RBI’s. JT Granat got the win in relief.
