Former Escambia Coach Willie Spears Named As 1A Vernon Coach

The District 2 Class 1A Vernon Yellow Jackets have a new head football coach — Willie Spears, former Escambia High School head coach.

The Northview Chiefs’  dreams of a second state championship were stopped cold  in round one of the playoffs last November in Vernon. The Yellow Jackets beat the Chiefs 36-19 in the Region 1-1A football semifinal.

The Chiefs are in District 1, Class 1A with Baker and Jay. Vernon is in District 2 with Cottondale, Graceville, Holmes County, Sneads and Wewahitchka. In the state playoff series, the two districts meet in a regional semifinal game.

Tate Aggies Release Football Schedule

West Florida 4, Northview 3 (JV)

The West Florida Jaguars defeated the Northview Chiefs in junior varsity action Monday afternoon. The Chiefs will travel to Holmes County on Tuesday; the junior varsity plays at 4:00, followed by the varsity at 6:30.

Tate 11, Sheffield 1 (JV)
Tate 12, Sheffield 1 (JV)

The Tate Aggies junior varsity took both games of a double header against Sheffield Monday night. Tate’s 9th grade team hosts Navarre tonight at 6:00.

SOFTBALL

Catholic 12, Northview 11 (9 innings)

Catholic got past Northview Monday in Pensacola 12-11 in nine innings. Hitters for Northview included Hannah Ging who was 3-3 and Penny Banda who was 3-4. The Chiefs will host Jay on Thursday; junior varsity at 4:00, varsity at 6:00.

Strike Out Cancer Game Raises Over $11.5K, Tate Tops WFHS; NHS Splits With Chipley

STRIKE OUT CANCER

Cancer research was the real winner Friday night as the Tate Aggies hosted the West Florida Jaguars. It was the 6th annual Strike Out Cancer Charity Softball Game, with both sides wearing pink jerseys.

Together, the  teams raised over $11,500 for the American Cancer Society. The Lady Jags came prepared with their own $5,000 donation that they raised, mostly on a GoFundMe website.

On the scoreboard, the Lady Aggies were the winners, 4-1 over West Florida.

EA’s Brooks Signs With Huntingdon College

Highland Baptist Hosting Wild Game Dinner, Fish Fry

Highland Baptist Church in Molino will host its  Wild Game Dinner and Fish Fry this Saturday night.

Guest speaker will be Tim Pernie, a retired Marine and avid outdoosrman.

The menu will include a variety of venison dishes and fried fish, plus sides of baked beans, coleslaw and desserts. Trophy mounts will be on display during the event.

The dinners takes place at 5 p.m., with doors opening at 4:30 p.m., at the Highland Baptist fellowship hall at 6240Highway 95A in Molino. Admission is free, but there is a suggested $5 donation. For more information, call the church office at (850) 587-5174.

Second Baptist Of Texas Takes Top Spot In Aggies Classic

The Second Baptist Eagles from Texas won the 22nd Annual Aggie Classic Thursday night as they topped No. 1 seed Tate High School. The 6-5 loss was the first of the season for the Aggies (13-1)

Northview High School’s junior varsity beat W.S. Neal in a baseball double header Thursday night in Bratt. Northview topped Neal 10-2 in the first game and 5-2 in the second. The Chiefs travel to Chipley Friday, with the JV plaing at 4:00 and the varsity in a district matchup at 6:30.

The Northview Lady Chiefs beat Flomaton Thursday night 6-5. The Lady Chiefs will be on the road Friday night at Baker. The junior varsity plays at 4:00, the varsity at 6:00

Undefeated Tate To Play For Aggie Classic Championship

The Tate Aggies beat Tulsa Union, OK, 5-3 in the Aggie Classic Wednesday night. The Aggies advance to the championship of their 22nd annual tourney.

The Aggies will face Second Baptist of Texas at 7 p.m. at Tate High School. Tate and Second Baptist were the only undefeated teams in tournament action this week. All Tate students wearing school colors will be admitted for just $1.
