FHSAA Approves New Classification Proposal On 12-3 Vote

The Florida High School Athletic Association Board of Directors voted 12-3 Monday to approve a new FHSAA classification proposal Wednesday that would reduce the number of classes and change playoffs for sports not including football.
The proposal would not make any changes to the current 1A rural classification (including Northview and Jay).
The new two-year classification cycle begins with the 2019-20 school year. The board also reduced the classifications in the following sports to six classes plus rural (rural is not affected): baseball, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, softball and girls volleyball.
District tournaments will remain and be seeded by MaxPreps rankings released at the end of the regular season. However, schools are no longer required to play regular-season district contests.
Following district tournaments, the regional playoff brackets for Class 2A-7A (1A rural playoff structure remains the same) will consist of four regions per class and four districts per region. District champions now automatically qualify for the playoffs, with the top four seeds in each region being seeded by MaxPreps. Following the top four automatic qualifiers being seeded, teams 5-8 will receive at-large bids via their MaxPreps rankings. Higher seeds would host. All regional MaxPreps rankings will combine schools’ regular season and district tournament results.

The Miracle League: Where Everyone Wins

The Tate High School Cheerleaders volunteered as buddies Saturday morning at the Miracle League, where everyone wins.
In a park where hundreds of Escambia County area athletes play baseball, softball and t-ball every year, one set of baseball diamonds stands out from the rest. A rubber surface covers what would normally be clay and grass on three of the fields at the county-owned John R. Jones Jr. Athletic Complex on Nine Mile Road, providing a safe, fun place for everyone who wants to play ball.
And for the Miracle League of Pensacola, “everyone” truly means everyone.
It’s a place where every player plays, hits, gets on base, scores and wins – every game. Operating out of the John R. Jones Jr. Athletic Complex, the Miracle League of Pensacola provides physically and mentally challenged children and adults an opportunity to play baseball, softball and t-ball just like anyone else, all in a spirited and secure environment.
The Miracle League of Pensacola relies on its many volunteers or “buddies” to keep the program going.

NWE Sophomores And Freshmen Advance To ERC Championships

The NWE Freshmen and Sophomore Chiefs are headed to the ERC championships after wins Saturday in Bratt.
The freshmen championship game will be next Saturday at 1 p.m. at Poarch; the sophomore game will kick off at 2:30.

Northview Blanks Snook 56-0
October 27, 2018
The Northview Chiefs earned a big 56-0 senior night win over the Eagles of Snook Christian Academy.
“It was a good game by our guys,” Northview football coach Derek Marshman said. “I thought for the first time we came out with a lot of urgency. We played good football for, really for four quarters.”
Northview held a commanding 20-0 lead by the end of the first quarter, and the Chiefs were up 49-0 at the half before going on to a 56-0 win in Bratt.
“Right there at the end we had a bunch of young guys in. They let some emotions get to them; some penalties kind of hurt us,” he said.
The Chiefs (5-4) will wrap up their regular season next Friday night on the road against the Freeport Bulldogs (3-6). Freeport is coming off a 30-26 loss to Jay Friday night.
“If we can with that one, it should secure us a home playoff spot. So it’s going to big for us to go over there and get a victory,” Marshman said.

Pine Forest Beats Tate
October 27, 2018
The Pine Forest Eagles defeated the Tate Aggies 35-20 Friday night. Pine Forest (6-3, 3-0) clinched the district title with the win.
Pine Forest cruised to a 21-0 lead before Tate’s first score of the game on a quarterback keeper from Hunter Riggan.
Tate (2-7, 1-2) will host Elba, AL (7-1, 4-1) next Friday night at Pete Gindl Stadium.

Northview’s Girls Golf Advances To Regionals; Boys Team Makes Districts
October 23, 2018
The Northview High School boys and girls golf teams played in the 1A District tournament at Osceola Golf Course in Pensacola last week. Competing against five other schools, the girls team placed third and will advance to the regional tournament at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin. Qualifying team members are Emily Boutwell, Bradi Edwards, Meredith McGhee and Raeliegh Woodfin.
The Northview boys team placed fourth at the district tournament, ending their season. Boys team members include Bryce Korinchack, Billy Rolin, Brandon Santos, Nick Venable, Josh Wilson and Hunter Zisa.
