Melvin Burgett

Melvin Burgett, 89, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2020. He enjoyed fishing and camping with his family along the rivers near his home in Molino. His favorite pastimes were spending time with his brother in law, Everette, eating Popeye’s chicken and playing Checkers with his dear friend, Bob.

He is preceded in death by his wife: Ruby Janette Burgett, parents: Joseph Burgett and Viola Huckabee Burgett and his sisters and brothers, Margaret Burgett, John Burgett, Joseph Burgett, Homer Burgett, Luther Burgett, Fletcher Burgett, Alter Burgett, Elvin Burgett, Arley Burgett, Hazel Burgett, Fred D. Burgett, and Velton Burgett.

He is survived by his son’s Joseph Burgett and Randy Burgett; daughter Janis Yvette Patterson, grandchildren, great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be: Howard Burgett, Larry Burgett, Danny Burgett, Kenneth Burgett, Donnie Burgett, and Peter Welch.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2020 beginning at 10:00am with the service to follow at 11:00am at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North. Burial to follow at Little Pine Barren Cemetery.

Edward Stephen Clemens, Sr.

Mr. Edward Stephen Clemens, Sr., age 90, passed away on Sunday, July 19,  2020 in Atmore, Alabama.

Mr. Clemens was a native of Valley Stream, New York, former resident of Century, FL and had resided in Atmore, AL for the past 10 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #1983, a veteran of the US Army and retired police officer with Nassau County, New York. He was former owner of Travel Ease Limousine Service and E&C Security of Sarasota County, Florida. He is preceded in death by his mother, Helen B. Clemens; father, Edward Clemens; his first wife, Dorothy Cane Clemens; second wife, Debbie Johnson Clemens and brother, Donald Clemens.

He is survived by his two sons, Edward S. (Paula) Clemens of Atmore, AL and William “Billy” (Patti) Clemens of Sarasota, FL; one sister-in-law, Jean Clemens of Baldwin, NY; three grandchildren, Bradley Clemens, Todd Clemens and Sara Clemens; one great grandchild, Avlynn Clemens; one nephew, Donald Clemens and one niece, Jean Clemens.

Omar Helen Williams

Omar Helen Williams, 77, of Oak Grove, FL passed away on July 15, 2020. She was born on February 17, 1943 in Century, FL to the late Samuel Andrews and Lizzie Campbell Andrews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister Evelyn Bass and her son Christopher Henderson.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, William “Bill” Williams; two sons Robert (Leslie) Henderson of Oak Grove, FL and Johnny Williams of New York, NY; one daughter Jeanette (Roy) Moye of Flomaton, AL; three grandchildren Samuel Henderson, Emily Henderson and Naomie Lawson and one sister Eveline Hollingshead of Century, FL. Funeral service will be held Sunday, July 19, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Earl Harrison officiating.

Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Oak Grove, FL. Active pallbearers will be Samuel Henderson, Rick Hammond, Donnie Boatwright, Brandon Smith, Michael Smith and Morgan Mason.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 19, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. until the service time at 2:00 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

John Spickard Fuqua

Mr. John Spickard Fuqua, age 79, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2020 in Pensacola, Florida.

Mr. Fuqua was a native of Memphis, TN and had resided in Pensacola, FL for most of his life. He was a veteran serving in the US Army, where he relocated the Atomic Cannon (M65) throughout Germany and Belgium during the Cold War. He was employed with the Lewis Bear Company as the draft beer department manager in Pensacola for 28 years and with Gray’s Tackle in Innerarity Point, FL for 10 years. He was a member at Temple Beth El Jewish Synagogue, a 32 degree Mason, Member of Hadji Shrine Temple and the Antique Car Club. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Nelson and Hattie Louise Fuqua; son, Lee West and great granddaughter, Audrey Lynn.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Fuqua of Pensacola, FL; two sons, Robert Nelson (Robin) Fuqua of Century, FL and Nathan Fuqua of Pensacola, FL; five daughters, Lee Anne Carroll of Bainbridge, GA, Roberta Carroll of Louisville, KY, Lori West (Fred) Voit of Waverly, GA, Carol Fuqua of Florla, AL and Jordan Fuqua of Pensacola, FL and ten grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at 7:00 PM at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Burial will be held Thursday, July 23, 2020 at 10:00 AM at the Barrancas National Cemetery with Military Honors and with Rabbi Joel Fleekop officiating.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2020 from 5 to 7 PM at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Robert Fuqua, Carol Fuqua, Caleb Barentine, Shawn Black, Nathan Fuqua and David Butler.

Terry Desmond Linam

Mr. Terry Desmond Linam, age 55, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 in a hospital in  Pensacola, Florida.

Mr. Linam was a native and life long resident of the Atmore, AL. Desmond was owner and operator of Snappy Car Wash and Linam’s Electric. Mr. Linam loved his children, mother and grandson. He was a member of the Brooks Memorial Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his dad Yuell Linam, stepfather Pete Helton, grandparents Hubert and Laverta Rounsaville and uncle Donnell Rounsaville.

He is survived by his mother Barbara Helton of Atmore, AL; two sons, Ryan Linam of Atmore, AL and Nolon Linam Atmore, AL; two daughters, Gabby Linam of Atmore, AL; and Claire Linam and (Dalton Tolbert) of Uriah, AL; four brothers, Alan Helton of Atmore, AL; Roger Helton and Beverly of Atmore, AL; Osborn Linam and Kathy of Spanish Fort, AL. and George Linam of Columbia, TN; four sisters, Linda Farr and Billy of Atmore, AL; Dawn Turner and Tim of Atmore, AL; Cindy Linam of Spanish Fort, AL. and Sonja Crowel and Mark of Daphne, Al. one grandson Braxton Tolbert of Uriah, AL; nine nephews, Brandon Whitehead, Craig Helton, Cody Helton, Dustin Helton, Nate Turner, Cullen Pierce, Logan Pierce, Gavin Primm and Trent Linam; six nieces, Shane Spence, Brooklyn Turner, Mary Katherine Crowel, Haley Witherow, Hannah Linam, Maggie Linam and special friends, Karen Matthews, Roy Tolin, Jackie Lee, James Pettway, David Kirby and Dave Kinam.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 3:00 PM at the Petty Funeral Home with Dr. Dale Patterson officiating.

Reita Wearren Irwin

Mrs. Reita Wearren Irwin, age 66, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at her home in Bratt, Florida.

Mrs. Irwin was a native of Atmore, AL; former resident of Louisiana and had resided in Bratt, FL for the rest of her life. Mrs. Irwin, was a 1972 graduate of Ernest Ward High school and was a 1976 graduate of Troy State University. She was retired, secretary with the Florida State Correction Department. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Larry Irwin, her parents Frank and Levetia Wearren.

She is survived by her one brother Arther Hollis Wearren of Navarre, FL; one sister Donna Sue Dowdy of Navarre, Fl; nephew Jace Hall (Tasha) of Shalimar, FL; great nieces Arianna Hall, Ember Hall and a great nephew Gavin Hall.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 10:30 AM at Godwin Cemetery with Bro. Doug Sanders officiating.

Burial will follow at the Godwin Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 18, 2020 from 9:00 AM till 10:00 AM at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Tom Francis Simard

Thomas Francis “Tom” Simard, resident of Walnut Hill, FL passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at the age of 75. He was born on December 3, 1944, in Lynn, Massachusetts to the late Herman Simard and Bertha Boudreau Simard.

He was a deacon for many years at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church and had worked in Prison Ministry. Tom, an inventor and entrepreneur, was also a private pilot, airplane builder and a business owner in the computer business.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Raymond Simard.

Tom is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jane Fowler Simard; brothers, Robert (Fran) Simard and Paul Simard; sisters, Arlene (Bob) Connor and Claire (Ronnie) Larson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 16, 2020, at St. Jude Thaddeus Church with Father George Thekku officiating.

Burial will follow in Barrineau Park Colony Cemetery.

Carolyn Worley

July 16, 2020

Carolyn Worley, resident of Pensacola, FL, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2020, at the age of 82. She was born in Robertsdale, AL on March 25, 1938, to the late Dewey Lee Godwin and Elizabeth Mae Hurd Godwin. Carolyn was an active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and had the gift of serving. She loved her children and her grandchildren very much.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, John Worley; parents; four brothers; and three sisters.

Carolyn is survived by her children, Katherine (Joseph) Reding, Mike (Holly) Allan, Ronny Allan, and Jacqueline (Jonathon) Stoner; step-son, James Worley; sister, Linda Bugaj; brother, Renae Godwin; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2020, at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Pastor Pat Mobley officiating.

Burial will follow in Baldwin Memorial Cemetery in Robertsdale, AL.

The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. prior to services.

Clarence Eugene Carlton

Clarence Eugene Carlton, 71, of Atmore, AL passed away on July 12, 2020. He was born on January 17, 1949, in Bay Minette, AL to the late Lloyd and Lettie Thompson Carlton. He served 21 years in the United States Army and during his military career, he also served in Vietnam retiring at the age of 38. Thereafter, he became a contractor for Shell Oil (Gulf of Mexico). He attended Healing Waters Church in Bay Minette, AL.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janet Carlton and his brother, Tommy Carlton.

He is survived by his wife, Felicia Carlton of Canoe, AL; one son Brandon (Heather) Carlton of Alabaster, AL; eight grandchildren Rylee, Reese, Rowan, Kennedy, Dagan, Addie, Maddie and Garrick; one sister, Patsy White of Nokomis, AL and three brothers Jimmy (Janice) Carlton of Canoe, AL, Johnnie Ray Carlton of Eufala, AL and Billy Joe Carlton of Atmore, AL.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 15, 2020, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home with Bro. Josh Long and Bro. Don Davis officiating.

Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore, AL.

Active pallbearers were Johnny Rolin, Sean Rhinehart, Sam Singleton, Eric Jones, Seth Williams and Eric Marshell.

Larry Eugene McCoy

Mr. Larry Eugene McCoy, 74 of Nokomis, AL, passed away July 12, 2020, in Nokomis, AL.

He was born in Anna, IL on December 5, 1945, to the late Wilbert and Mary Bloodworth McCoy. He served in the United States Army 2nd Armored Division and was an E-5 SPC 2nd Class and served during the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of Southern Illinois University. He served 30 years with National Mine Service and served on the rescue team which he was awarded the Coal Mine Rescue Hall Of Fame Award for his twenty six rescues. Mr. McCoy then continued his  protection with his Company Mc2 and worked six years with Draeger Safety.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James “Jim” McCoy.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Barbara Rogers McCoy of Nokomis, AL; two children, Ross McCoy of Montgomery, AL and Katherine (Khaki) Bell of Atmore, AL; three grandchildren, Tyler, Lucas and Emily; many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends across the country.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at Sullivan Cemetery in Nokomis, AL.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a Ronald McDonald House near you.
