Bratt Assembly Of God Children Get Colorful While Helping Missionaries

The childrens’ ministries at the Bratt Assembly of God have worked hard to make a difference this year, including raising over $1,500 to help support the efforts of the Boys and Girls Missionary Challenge worldwide. All funds raised through BGMC go to meet critical needs around the world such as feeding programs, water wells, Bible schools, curriculum, and other missionary needs around the world.
As a reward for exceeding their goal for the year, the Bratt AG children were given the opportunity to color the hair of their pastors, Rick and Deborah MaHarrey, and their children’s leader, Elaine Godwin.

Upcoming Class: Chick Raising 101

Escambia County UF/IFAS Extension, the Panhandle Poultry Club and the Florida Panhandle 4-H Clubs will host an Chick Raising 101 program on Wednesday, February 18, at 7 p.m., at the Escambia County Extension office at 3740 Stefani Road in Cantonment.
This free program is for anyone interested in learning more about hatching chicks, raising chicks and basic chick care.

Royal Classic Winterguard and Percussion Competition Saturday In Jay

The Royal Classic Winterguard and Percussion Competition will be held Saturday at Jay High School.
The competition beings at 4:30 with scoring to be announced at 9:15. Admission is $10; full concessions will be available during the entire event.

Group Makes Plans To ‘Reimagine Century’ In May

An organizational meeting was held Tuesday night to make plans for the second Reimagine Century event on May 16.
Organizer Linda English said the group is on a mission to serve those less fortunate — both their physical and spiritual needs. “It is an outreach, but it’s also a chance for the body of Christ to come together and reach those in the community,” she said.
The event will include a wide variety of activities, including a 15,000 pound food giveaway, health screenings, AIDS testing, diabetes information, live music, fishing lessons from Mission Fishin’, free manicures, a laundry detergent giveaway, information from community agencies, a clothing giveaway, free lunch, free haircuts, youth and teen activities and sports, a diaper giveaway and more.
About two dozen people, representing a variety of churches, businesses and community groups, attended Tuesday night’s organizational meeting. Interested persons are invited to attend the group’s next meeting on Tuesday, March 10 at 7 p.m. at the Century Community Center on West Highway 4.

Free Computer Classes Begin Thursday At Century Branch Library

Two free computer classes are scheduled for February at the Century Branch Library:
Introduction to the Internet – Thursday, February 12, 6 p.m.
Participants will learn the basics of exploring the internet, navigation, browsers and internet safety.
Facebook Basics – Thursday, February 26, 6 p.m.
This workshop is designed for beginners who would like to learn how to create a Facebook profile, add and remove friends, upload photos, share posts and more.

Lipscomb Elementary Holds Gallery Night

The hallways of Lipscomb Elementary School were converted into Escambia County’s newest art gallery for a very special night of the arts Monday.
Each student contributed work inspired by lessons about art from different time periods to art inspired by studying well-known masterpieces. Visitors found a variety of art styles from interpretations of Vermeer’s “Girl with a Pearl Earring,” to attempts to recreate VanGogh’s “Starry Night.” Also, there was art inspired by history and flights of fancy, like fire breathing flying dragons.
Also during the Lipscomb Gallery Night, the Ransom Middle School Jazz Band and Opera Society held special performances. Local artists also joined in the night’s events to demonstrate their techniques.

Escambia Extension To Hold Certified Arborist Training

On February 27, a workshop will be held at the Escambia County Extension Office for those desiring to become certified arborists. The workshop will cover about 60 percent of the material that is covered on the certification exam. Attendees will also have the opportunity to take the exam on Saturday, February 28.
Becoming a certified arborist shows that the tree care worker or arborist has a basic knowledge of tree care. To maintain certification, arborists must continue their learning by earning continuing education credits (CEU). This helps them keep up to date with the latest information on tree care as well as broadening their knowledge base. This training is recommended for private and public arborists, foresters, professional landscapers, nursery professionals and tree surgeons.
The workshop will be taught by Sam Hand, ISA certified arborist and forestry agent with FAMU Extension; Stan Rosenthal, Leon County Extension forestry agent; Beth Bolles, Escambia County Extension horticulture agent and Cathy Hardin, Escambia County forester with the Florida Forest Service.

Look Back: Tate Drama Dept. Presents The Addams Family Musical

The Tate High School Drama Department presented a three-night run of “The Addams Family: A Musical Comedy”. The production brought the characters of Gomez Addams, Morticia Addams, Uncle Fester, Wednesday Addams, Pugsley Addams, Grandma, Lurch and other to life in an original story with Wednesday falling in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family – a man her parents have never met.
