Greater Escambia Relay For Life Team Meeting Tonight

The last team meeting for the Greater Escambia Relay for Life will be held at 6:00 tonight at Jim Allen Elementary School.

There are currently at least 35 teams registered for the Relay for Life of Greater Escambia. The event will take place beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, April 25 at Tate High School and ending at 6:00 the following morning. The theme for this year’s event is “Cirque Du Relay”.

School Board Set To Name Northview Stadium For Tommy Weaver

The Escambia County School Board is set to consider a resolution to name the stadium at Northview High School as the “Tommy Weaver Memorial Stadium”.

The board will hold a public hearing on the proposal 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday during the board’s regular meeting the Hall Center on Texar Drive. The name change will be official after being approved at the meeting.

Weaver was a longtime DCT and Ag instructor and assistant coach who passed away suddenly at the age of 61 in March 2012. The Chiefs’ entire 2012 state championship football season was dedicated to Weaver.

Rodney Atkins Rocks Beulahfest; Fun Continues Today

Hundreds attended Beulahfest Friday, and the event continues today at the Pensacola Fairgrounds with a full slate of activities.

The festival features not only great music, but plenty of fun, rides, and of course those delicious sausages.  Beulahfest attracts thousands each year, with proceeds benefiting the Beulah Volunteer Fire Department and other local charities.

Friday’s entertainment included local favorite Chloe Channel of America’s Got Talent fame, and county star Rodney Atkins.  Saturday’s entertainment includes headliners The Charlie Daniels Band and Lynyrd Skynyrd .

Saturday admission is $15 before 7 p.m.; $20 after. Admission for kids 12 and under is free.

Saturday’s schedule is as follows:

Lane Closures This Afternoon On Hwy 97A At Boggy Creek Bridge

Drivers can expect delays this afternoon at the newly constructed bridge on Highway 97A over Boggy Creek near Enon. Crews will be paving the final asphalt surface on the approaches to the bridge.

The work will require alternating lane closures over the bridge from noon until 5 p.m. All activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or re-scheduled in the event of inclement weather.

The bridge construction was a $1.5 million Florida Department of Transportation project.

Free Health Screenings Today In Molino

Free health screenings will be offered today in Molino.

The community event will be held at Scott’s Pharmacy from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesday. The free screenings including total cholesterol, glucose, body mass index and blood pressure. Results will be ready in about five minutes, and no appointment in necessary.

Scott’s Pharmacy is located on Highway 29 at the Molino Road intersection.
