On The Road, Again: Northview’s 2010 Football Schedule

The 2010 football schedule for Northview High School has been released, and it won’t have the Chiefs playing a home game until late September.

The Chiefs, 7-3 last year, will open their 2010 season on the road at Graceville on September 3.  They will travel the next week, September 10, to South Walton before having an open date on the third Friday night of the season, September 17.

The first home game for the Chiefs, in their second year under Head Coach Sid Wheatley, will be September 24 against Bozeman.

Here is the complete schedule for the 2010 Northview Chiefs:

Winning Streak For The Pelicans: Pensacola Tops Captains 9-5

The Pensacola Pelicans scored at least one run in each of  the first five innings of the game in a wild and crazy affair to top the Shreveport-Bossier Captains 9-5 Wednesday night.

Shreveport-Bossier opened up the contest with three straight singles including an RBI from Christopher Garcia giving the Captains an early 1-0 lead.

Pensacola (22-28, 2-0)  tied the game up in the bottom of the first inning when Javier Brito hit into a fielder’s choice to bring in Carlos Leon from third base to tie the game up at 1.

Jorge Alvarez led off the second inning with a golf shot that left the park in a hurry to left for his first homerun of the season. The homer gave the Captains a 2-1 lead.

The Pelicans grabbed their first lead of the contest in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI single from Marcos Rodriguez bringing in Chase Porch tying the game up at 2. Later in the inning, Carlos Leon had an RBI groundout scoring Rodriguez and which gave the Pels the lead 3-2.

In the bottom of the third inning, Lou Palmisano hit a line drive double into deep left center to score John Alonso to give the Pelicans a 4-2 lead. Later in the inning, Adolfo Gonzalez hit an infield RBI single to score Brito from third base to give Pensacola a 5-2 advantage.

Shreveport-Bossier answered right back in the top of the fourth inning when Brian Peterson crushed a hanging curveball from Jared Gothreaux deep to left center for his first homerun of the season. The homer pulled the Captains within a run at 5-4.

With the score 6-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Dallas Christison lined a single to right to score Porch and give the Pels a two run lead at 7-5.

The Pelicans got some insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning when Javier Brito hit a bomb to left field for a two run homerun that gave Pensacola a 9-5 lead. The majestic shot was Brito’s tenth homerun of the season.

Jared Gothreaux (5-5) gets the win as he goes five innings and gives up five runs off nine hits on the night. Pelican reliever Lee Henry tossed a scoreless sixth and seventh inning. Seth Overbey threw a scoreless eighth inning while Austin Chambliss pitched a perfect ninth to close out the game.

Northwest Escambia All-Stars Win District Softball Championship

July 3, 2010

The Northwest Escambia All-Stars are the 11-12 year old girls Little League Florida District 1 champions after a 4-1 win over Niceville Friday night.

Mallory Ryan pitched all six innings for NWE, walking just two and striking out half a dozen Niceville batters. Kyndall Hall scored two runs for NWE, while Addy Lee and Kristen Byrd scored one each. Courtney Peebles had two RBI’s.

The NWE All-Stars will next to head to the Florida Little League Sectional Tournament in Tallahassee on July 17.

Members of the NWE 11-12 year old All-Stars are: Savanna Roux, Peighton Dortch, Courtney Peebles, Kyndall Hall, Penny Banda, Addy Lee, Kendal Cobb, Mallory Ryan, Kristin Byrd and Natalie Goetter. The team is managed by Jerry Mason, and coached by Ronald Peebles and Eddie Ryan.

NWE, Tri-County All Stars Out Of 9-10 Tournament

Northwest Escambia and Tri-County are both out of the Florida District 1 All Star Tournament for 9-10 year old boys after losses Wednesday.

Northwest Escambia lost to R.L. Turner 18-2, and Tri-County lost to Destin.

Saturday afternoon, NWE beat Tri-County 9-8 before losing to DeFuniak Springs 11-1 Monday Night.

NWE Girls Remain Undefeated In Tourney With Win Over Niceville

June 30, 2010

The Northwest Escambia 11-12 year old All-Stars beat Niceville 5-1 in six innings Tuesday night at Walnut Hill’s Bradberry Park.

Mallory Ryan pitched all six innings for NWE with six strikeouts and no walks. Ryan, Penny Banda, Courtney Peebles, Kristen Byrd and Peighton Dortch each scored one run for Northwest Escambia.

With the win, undefeated NWE advances to play again Thursday night at 6:00 against the winner of a 6 p.m. Wednesday game between Niceville and DeFuniak Springs.

Tri-County 11-12 Boys Beat Destin

June 30, 2010

Tri-County beat Destin 16-1 Tuesday night in the Florida District 1 All Star Tournament for 11-12 year old boys baseball.

Chase Shell had three big homers for Tri-County, while AJ Nash had one home run.

Tri-County, 1-1 in tournament play, will face either Shalimar or Niceville Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Softball: Northwest Escambia Beats Defuniak Springs 12-2

June 29, 2010

The Northwest Escambia 11-12 year old All-Stars beat DeFuniak Springs 12-2 in four innings Monday night at Walnut Hill’s Bradberry Park. With the win, NWE advances to play Niceville at 7:30 Tuesday.

Kristen Byrd hit triple to left field for NWE. Mallory Ryan pitched two innings with two strikeouts, and Courtney Peebles pitched two with two strikeouts.

Scoring for NWE were: Mallory Ryan 2, Kyndall Hall 2, Penny Banda 1, Courtney Peebles 1, Kendal Cobb 2, Addy Lee 2, Kristen Byrd 1, and Savanna Roux 1.

Softball: Tri-County Falls To Destin

June 29, 2010

Tri-County was eliminated from the Florida District 1 All Star Tournament for 11-12 year old girls Monday night with a 27-16 loss to Destin. It was the second loss of the tournament for Tri-County, which fell 26-8 on Saturday to DeFuniak Springs.

Baseball: DeFuniak Beats NWE

DeFuniak Springs handed Northwest Escambia their first  9-10 year old All-Star loss Monday night, 11-1 in DeFuniak Springs.

NWE is 1-1 in the tournament, having beat Tri-County 9-8 Saturday afternoon.

Northwest Escambia will be in action again Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in DeFuniak Springs.

NWE Downs Tri-County In 9-10 Year Old All-Star Tourney

The 9-10 year old Little League All-Star Tournament is taking place in DeFuniak Springs. In Saturday’s action, Northwest Escambia got past Tri-County 9-8.

NWE plays DeFuniak Springs on Monday at 5:30, and Tri-County will play again Tuesday at 7:30.

Members of the NWE 9-10 year old All-Stars include:

Dawson Brown, Jason Fischer, Chase Gifford, Trey Holder, Adrian King, Daniel Mascaro, Preston Milstead, Teddy Nelson, Hunter Spence and Samuel Stott. The team is coached by PJ Gifford and Cameron Horning.
