Wahoos Snap Skid With 2-1 Win In 10 Over Huntsville

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos snapped their three-game skid with a 2-1 10 inning win over the Huntsville Stars on Saturday night in Huntsville. Rey Navarro provided what proved to be the game winner, with a solo home run in the top of the 10th inning with two outs.
The Blue Wahoos broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth when Juan Duran singled home Juan Silverio from second. The game stayed 1-0 until Mitch Haniger tied the game with a one-out solo home run off Drew Hayes in the bottom of the ninth. Later in the inning, Bryson Smith saved the game with a leaping catch at the wall to take, what appeared to be, a home run away from Adam Weisenburger for the final forcing extra innings.
Hayes allowed just a single in the 10th to shut down the Stars and earn the win despite the blown save. Jon Moscot pitched very well for the Wahoos in his second start of the season. He worked 5.2 shutout innings allowing just two hits and a walk while adding five strikeouts. He left the game early after back to back strikeouts in the sixth inning with a blister. Pensacola’s fifth inning run was the only blemish for Huntsville starter Brent Suter. He logged six innings allowing five hits with six strikeouts. David Goforth allowed the 10th inning homer to Navarro in his only inning of work to suffer the loss.
The Blue Wahoos will look to finish the series on a high note as they send RHP Michael Lorenzen (1-0, 0.00) against RHP Tyler Cravy (1-0, 0.00). First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. before returning home to open a five-game series with the Montgomery Biscuits on Monday.
Northview Ends Season With 10-0 Win Over Escambia Academy (With Gallery)

The Northview Lady Chiefs wrapped up their regular season Friday by beating the Cougars of Escambia Academy 10-0 in a game called in the sixth inning due to the 10-run rule. In junior varsity action, Escambia Academy defeated Northview 7-5.
The district softball tournament beings next week at Jay. Due Monday the forecast of rain for Monday afternoon, tournament play will now begin on Tuesday. Chipley won the coin toss, make them the number one seed. Northview will take on Holmes County Tuesday at 5:00, and Freeport will play Baker at 7:00.

Northview Baseball Takes District Win Over Chipley

The Northview Chiefs beat Chipley 5-4 Friday in their last regular season district game.
For the Chiefs: Aaron McDonald 1-3, 1R; Chason Freeman 2-3, 1R; Brannon Freeman 1-3; Thomas Moore 1-2, 2B, 3 RBI; Jody Bonner 1-2, , 2SB; Kevin Barrow 2-2, 2R, SB. The winning pitcher was Daulton Tullis pitching 4 1/3 innings, allowing six hits, three runs, walking four and striking out three. Brannon Freeman got the save pitching 2 2/3, allowing one hit, one run, three walks and striking out four.
The Chiefs will travel to Flomaton Monday night at 6:00 and to Escambia Academy Tuesday night at 6:30.
Wahoos Fall Short To The Huntsville Stars 5-4

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos bats unloaded for three home runs in a 5-4 loss to the Huntsville Stars Friday night at Joe Davis Stadium in Huntsville. The Stars broke a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the eighth on a solo home run from Mitch Haniger, which proved to be the winner. The Wahoos have now dropped three straight at the hands of the Stars.
In an encore to his 11 strikeouts in his 2014 debut, Wahoo starter Robert Stephenson battled his control and was knocked out after just two innings. He was tagged for 3R/ER on 5 hits with 2 walks and 0 strikeouts. After the Stars loaded the bases to start the second inning against Stephenson, singles from Stars pitcher Taylor Jungman and D’Vontre Richardson and a sacrifice fly from Josh Prince gave Huntsville a 3-0 lead.
Pensacola rallied back with a two-run homer from Juan Duran in the fourth. Rey Navarro blasted his second home run in as many nights with a solo shot leading off the fifth to tie the game at three. Bryan Anderson launched his second home run of the season to start the sixth to give the Blue Wahoos their first lead of the game, but it was short lived. An error in the seventh led to the tying run before Haniger’s homer in the eighth put the Stars back in front for good.
Despite his struggles, Stephenson didn’t factor into the decision. Jamie Walczak (0-1) took the loss with Stars reliever Casey Medlen (1-0) earning the win with a scoreless inning in relief. Arcenio Leon notched his first save of the season with a scoreless ninth.
The Blue Wahoos look to RHP Jon Moscot (0-0, 2.08) to snap the skid against Stars LHP Brent Suter (1-0, 1.80). First pitch is slated for 6:30 from Joe Davis Stadium.

Tate Freshmen Down Northview

The freshmen Tate Aggies defeated Northview 5-0 Thursday in Bratt.
The freshmen Aggies will travel to West Florida at 6 p.m. Friday. The JV Aggies will host West Florida at 4:30. and the varsity Jaguars will play the Aggies at 7:00.
The varsity Northview Chiefs will host Chipley in Bratt Friday at 6 p.m.

Wahoos Drop Second Straight To Stars, 6-3

The Huntsville Stars jumped out to an early lead Thursday night and never looked back as they topped the Pensacola Blue Wahoos 6-3. It’s the first time the Wahoos have dropped consecutive games during the 2014 campaign.
The Stars owned a 3-0 lead at the end of two innings, but Huntsville’s three-run fourth inning proved to be the difference. All three runs scored with two outs in the inning and after Hainley Statia stole second base on what would’ve been the final out of the inning. The throw to second beat Statia, but he slid around Rey Navarro’s tag for his first stolen base of the year. The next four batters reached, including D’Vontre Richardson with a two-run double to put the Stars in front 6-1.
Pensacola pulled within three on a solo home run from Navarro in the eighth, but that was as close as it got. Daniel Corcino (0-2) suffered his second loss of the season surrendering 6R/5ER on 5 hits with 3 walks over 4.0 innings. Drew Gagnon (1-0) earned the win after tossing 6.0 innings and allowing just 2R/ER on just 3 hits. He walked three and struck out one. Kevin Shackelford (1) shut the Wahoos down in the ninth to earn his first save.
The Blue Wahoos turn to RHP Robert Stephenson (1-0, 0.00) to right the ship against RHP Taylor Jungmann (1-0, 1.50). First pitch is slated for 6:30 from Joe Davis Stadium.

West Florida Takes Boys And Girls 2A-1 Track Championship; Northview Places

The West Florida High School boys and girls track teams are now six-time defending 2A-1 champions after wins Wednesday in Santa Rosa Beach. The Northview girls team finished at number seven in the district, while the Northview boys finished at sixth place.
BOYS
Northview’s Cameron Newsome was number two in the district in the boys varsity high jump at 6-feet, 4-inches, a couple of inches shy of first place. Northview’s Martavious Odom placed eighth in the event at 5-feet, 6-inches.
Newsome also placed fifth in the boys varsity triple jump at 39-feet, 2.25 inches. The Chiefs’ TyDre Brandley was eighth overall in the triple jump at 38-feet, 1.75 inches.
Newsome, Everette Garvey, Dezmine Moorer and Holden Moore finished second in the boys 4×100 meter relay with a time of 45.78 seconds, just off first place at 45.67 seconds from Walton High School.
Moorer was second overall, back 0.04 seconds in the boys 100 meter dash with a time of 11.25 seconds and fourth in the boys 200 meter with a time of 24.23. Moore took third in the 100 meter with a time of 11.47.
Tristen Creamer was fifth in the boys 300 meter hurdles with a time of 47.58.
GIRLS
Northview’s Elayzha Bates took first in the varsity girls discus throw with a final of 84-feet, 5-inches. Bates also took fourth in the girls shot put at 30-feet even.
The Chiefs’ Zacarra Davis placed sixth in the girls triple jump varsity at 31-feet, 1.25 inches.
Northview’s girls 4×100 relay team — Autumn Albritton, Angelique, Johna Carter and Davis took seventh overall with a time of 57.56.
The Chiefs’ girls 4×400 meter varsity relay team — Hannah Gibson, Bethany Reynolds, Morgan Ward and Bates — took sixth place overall with a time of 5:24.40. Also for Northview, Ward, Morgan Myrick, Reynolds and Tamara Green were eight in the girls 4×800 replay.

Chiefs Dominate Crusaders

The Northview Lady Chiefs dominated Catholic Thursday in Pensacola, with the Chiefs beating the Crusaders 13-0.
The Lady Chiefs are scheduled to end their regular season Friday as they host Escambia Academy, with the JV playing at 4:00 and the varsity at 6:00.

Stars Take Series Opener From Wahoos 5-4

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos jumped out to an early 3-0 lead Wednesday night in Huntsville, but it wasn’t enough as the Stars rallied to take the series opener 5-4 at Joe Davis Stadium. Wahoos pitching added to their league-leading strikeout totals with 11 K’s between four pitchers.
The Stars broke a 4-4 tie with a solo home run by Nick Ramirez (1) in the seventh inning. Huntsville plated its other four runs on a pair of two-out hits. The first from starting pitcher Brooks Hall in the second inning, a shallow pop up that dropped in short left field. Brewers No. 3 prospect Mitch Haniger provided the second with a two-run double in the fifth.
Donald Lutz led the way offensively for the Wahoos with a 3-for-5 game including an RBI and a run scored. Bryan Anderson chipped in with his first home run of the season, a solo shot leading off the second inning.
Blue Wahoos starter Carlos Contreras was charged with 2R/ER over 4.0 innings despite allowing just two hits with six strikeouts. Fabian Williamson (0-1) suffered the loss after giving up the go-ahead home run in the seventh. Kevin Shackelford (1-0) earned the win for Huntsville after working 1.0 scoreless inning out of the bullpen. David Goforth picked up his third save of the season with 2.0 shut-out innings to close it out. The Blue Wahoos had the tying and go-ahead runs on in the ninth but couldn’t score.
The series continues on Thursday when the Blue Wahoos send RHP Daniel Corcino (0-1, 1.50) to the mound against RHP Drew Gagnon (0-0, 3.60). First pitch is slated for 6:30 from Joe Davis Stadium.

Chiefs Celebrate Senior Night Win Over Baker; Moore Hits Grand Slam

The Northview Chiefs celebrated Senior Night Tuesday with an 8-5 win over the Baker Gators. The Chiefs were led by Thomas Moore with grand slam.
Seniors honored were: Jody Bonner, Kevin Barrow, Brannon Freeman, RJ Pritchett and Daulton Tullis.
The junior varsity Chiefs also beat Baker, 8-3.
