Northview Chiefs Get Two Wins (Updated With Stats)

The Northview varsity boys beat Washington Saturday, make it two wins in a row for the Chiefs.

Washington took a 1-0 lead in the first inning Saturday, but Northview answered with two in the two. At the end of 11, Northview prevailed 6-4.

Northview scored two in the second, one in the third, one in the figth, and two in the eleventh.

The winning pitcher for Northview was Brad Lowery.  He pitched four innings, gave up two hits, no runs, he walked two batters , and struck out eight. Lowery’s record is now 5-1.

Hitters for Northview were Scooter Hamilton, who went 2 for 5 at the plate.  Brad Lowery was 3 for 4 with two runs scored.  Dabney Langhorne was 3 for 4 with a run scored, and one RBI.  Austin Lowery was 1 for 5 with a run scored.  Heath Burkett was 2 for 4, with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.  Aaron Chancery was 2 for 5.  Taylor Martin was 1 for 5 with an RBI.  Northview improved their record to 12-8 and 4-2 in the district.

Northview 9, Walton 2

Northview beat Walton 9-2 on Friday in a seven inning matchup.

Northview scored one in the first, six in the fourth and two in the six for their 9 runs.  Walton scored one in the fourth, and one in the seventh.

The winning pitcher for Northview was Heath Burkett.  He pitched five innings, gave up one run on two hits, walked three and struck out five.

Leading hitters for Northview included Scooter Hamilton, going 2 for 3 and scoring two runs.  Patrick McPherson was 2 for 3 at the plate, scoring two runs and collecting three RBIs.  Brad Lowery was 2 for 4, with three RBIs and a double.  Austin Lowery was 1 for 3 with a run scored.  Heath Burkett was 1 for 3 with a run scored.  Austin Arrington was 1 for 3 also.

Lady Chiefs Scalp Pine Forest

The Northview Lady Chiefs scalped the Pine Forest Eagles 11-1 Friday night in Pensacola.

After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Chiefs took care of business in the second, putting 11 on the board. Pine Forest managed a second point in the third, making the final score 11-1.

Junior Candice Greenwell had 3 RBIs and a home run, and sophomore Emily Vickrey was 3-3 on the night with two RBIs. Sophomore Ashley Digmon had a pair of RBIs and Hayley Simpson, who is also a sophomore, had an RBI.

The winning pitcher was Miranda Burkett, pitching five innings.

Ernest Ward Names 2009-2010 Cheerleaders

The National Champion Ernest Ward Middle School Cheerleaders have named their 2009-2010 squad.

This year’s squad includes 24 girls. Principal Nancy Gindl-Perry said that 20 girls are allowed on a competition squad. With 24 members, the school have alternates in case of injury.

In addition, she said such a large squad will allow the cheerleaders to be split into smaller groups to cheer at events like basketball games, meaning that the girls will miss less homework time because of cheering.

Catholic Shuts Out Northview

baseball.jpgThe Catholic High School Crusaders shut out Northview Thursday night in Pensacola.

Catholic defeated Northview 8-0 in seven innings.

Scooter Hamilton, Austin Lowery and Brad Foster had hits for the Chiefs.

Catholic jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Crusaders add one point per inning in the second, third and fourth. The Chiefs held them scoreless in the fifth, but the Crusaders answered with two in the sixth.

Friday night, the Chiefs will host Walton at 6:00 in a varsity game. Saturday, the varsity Chiefs will travel to Washington for a 3:00 game.

Northview Baseball Schedule Changes For This Week; Final JV Game Of Season

Rainouts and cancellations have led to some schedule changes for the Northview Chief’s varsity baseball team.

Northview will travel to Pensacola Catholic Thursday with the varsity playing at 6:30 p.m. The final JV game of the season will be played against Catholic at 4:00.

Friday night, the Chiefs will host Walton at 6:00 in a varsity game.

Saturday, the Chiefs will travel to Washington for a 3:00 varsity game.

Northview Chiefs End Spring Break With A Win And A Loss

The Northview Chiefs split a couple of late Spring Break games last week, winning one over Washington and dropping one to St. Paul.

Washington took an early lead in the first inning, putting on on the scoreboard. But Northview answered in the bottom of the second with Austin Reid rounding the bases.

The third was even, with one each for the Chiefs and the Wildcats.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Chiefs secured the win with Dabney Langhorne and Austin Arrington rounding the bases.

The next three innings were scoreless, giving the Chiefs the 4-2 win over Washington.

St. Pauls 8 Northview 3

The end of the Spring Break games against St. Pauls did not go as well for the Northview Chiefs.

St. Pauls took an early 2-1 lead by the bottom of the first, with the Chiefs seeing Dabney Langhorne score.

St. Pauls upped their lead to 5-1 by the end of the second, and they scored again in the third and the fifth.

The Chiefs added one more with a Patrick McPherson run in the bottom of the sixth and Austin Arrington in the bottom of the seventh

But it was not enough for the Chiefs, with St. Pauls spoiling their Spring Break, 8-3.

Lady Chiefs Beat Catholic 2-0

The Northview Lady Chiefs picked up another win Wednesday, shutting out Catholic 2-0.

Sophomore Miranda Burkett pitched the shutout, never allowing Catholic on the board. She allowed seven hits and no runs.

The game against Catholic in Pensacola was a make up game for one recently rained out.

Northview Lady Chiefs Scalp Walton Braves

The Northview Lady Chiefs beat the Walton Braves 7-1  in Walton, adding one to Northview’s district win column.

Miranda Burkett was the winning pitcher for NHS Friday with five strikeouts. Hitters for the Chiefs were Briana Halterman, Shawna Montgomery, Amy Clark, Hayley Simpson, Emily Vickery, Miranda Burkett and Kolby Cobb. Batters earning RBIs were Candice Greenwell with three, Hayley Simpson with one and Kara Hardin with two RBIs.

The game was a makeup for a game previously rained out.

Even though it is Spring Break, the Lady Chiefs will play Catholic this Wednesday to make up another rained out game. The team will travel to Catholic for a 6 p.m. district game.

The game between the Chiefs and Jay will be made up the following Wednesday, April 15 at Northview. In addition to the Jay game, regular scheduled games next week will be played on Tuesday at 5 p.m. against Washington at NHS, and Friday the 17th with NHS traveling to Pine Forest for a 5 p.m. game.

Saturday was the official Opening Day at the Molino Ballpark. The park has 18 teams this year, compared to 14 in 2008.

“On behalf of the Molino Recreation Association Board, we would like to thank all the parents, sponsors, volunteers and the community that came out to
make our opening day a success,” said Arty Kleinatland, president of the Molino Recreation Association. “Good weather, good food and good support  made
the day the most enjoyable for all.”

NHS Baseball, Softball, Track Canceled Due To Weather

(Updated 3:19 p.m.) Thursday’s weather  canceled all high school sports in Escambia County, including a baseball, softball and track for the Northview Chiefs.

The varsity and junior varsity baseball game sscheduled Thursday against Pensacola High School has been canceled.  The games will be made up on Monday, April 6.  There will be three games at PHS that day beginning with a varsity game at 1:00.  One JV game will  follow that game at approximately 3:30.  The varsity will play the last game around 6.

Thursday’s softball game against Jay has been rescheduled for April 15.

The Northview track team was scheduled to take part in the Pace Invitational Meet Thursday afternoon. The Pace Invitational will not be rescheduled.
