Northview Beats Jay; Jay Beats Northview In Volleyball Action

Northview High School’s Lady Chiefs beat the Jay Royals on the volleyball court Thursday night; and the JV Royals were victorious over the JV Chiefs.

Tate Volleyball Hit Hard By The Flu

The flu bug has hit the Tate High School volleyball team hard, knocking most team members out of action.
The Aggies canceled their Monday game against Washington High School because a large percentage of the team was sick. Tonight’s match against Escambia is also in jeopardy, with less than a half dozen players able to make the latest volleyball practice.
Changes To Deer Season? Fish And Wildlife Seeks Hunter Input

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) wants to hear from hunters around the state regarding when they think the white-tailed deer rut happens in their neck of the woods.
The FWC, along with its deer management stakeholder group, is considering making possible changes to Florida’s deer hunting zones and corresponding season dates. The first goal of the “Strategic Plan for Deer Management in Florida 2008-2018″ is to manage deer at a more local level and better align hunting season dates with peak rutting (breeding) activity.
The FWC has deer-breeding information from many counties and several of its wildlife management areas, but there are gaps in the biological data. The deer management stakeholder group would like to obtain rut information from hunters to try and close gaps in the data.
The agency recognizes the value of local knowledge and is asking hunters who are familiar with when the deer rut historically occurs in the areas where they hunt to fill out an online survey. The FWC would like to take this information to compare hunters’ perceptions of the rut with scientifically known conception data.
During rutting periods, bucks are more active during daylight (shooting) hours and often less cautious, making the chances of seeing them in the field better.
“Deer hunters want to hunt during the rut, and we want to be able to share comprehensive information about when the rut occurs with the hunting public,” FWC biologist and deer team coordinator Cory Morea said. “We realize a lot of hunters know when the rut happens in their area, and we want to take this information and compare it with our conception data to see if they are similar. It would be great to be able to use any new data to help fill in the holes in what we already know.
“At the very least, we think there is value in knowing what hunters perceive as the peak of the rut where they hunt,” Morea said.

Ernest Ward Eagles Beat Pollard-McCall – Again

The Ernest Ward Middle School Eagles beat Pollard-McCall on the volleyball court in Pollard Tuesday, making it two days in a row the Eagles defeated Pollard.
Tuesday, the EWMS White team won 25-21, 25-18. The EWMS Blue defeated Pollard-McCall 24-26, 25-17, 15-9. EWMS Blue and White were victorious over Pollard-McCall Monday in Walnut Hill.
EWMS White team members are: Raven Weaver, Madison Arrington, Brianna Parker, Lily Townson, Chloe Leonard, Kyndall Hall, Leah Fischer and Tiffani Pritchett.
EWMS Blue team members are: Mallory Wiggins, Mallory Ryan, Rebecca Grim, Shelby Nielson, Danielle Steadham, Saige Garrett, Lorri Harrell, Kaitlyn Abbott and Reagan Bell.
Volleyball: Baldwin County Defeats Northview

JV Chiefs Fall To W.S. Neal
September 22, 2009
Turnovers plagued the Northview High School JV Chiefs Monday night in a 22-0 loss to W.S. Neal.
The Chiefs’ defense held the W.S. Neal Eagles at Bay during the first quarter. Then a Tanner Brooks interception fired up the Chiefs who gained a first down on a Jacob Gibson carry. Northview then fumbled the ball, but recovered. A flag on Neal brought the Chiefs within scoring range, but the Chiefs fumbled the ball away to Neal.
Neal was headed toward pay dirt when Brooks intercepted another Neal pass in the second. Neither team made the goal line in the first half, making it 0-0 heading into the locker room.
Jamie Gafford gained some ground with a kick return in the second, followed by a first down run from Reid Bell, but Northview was unable to continue the drive.
Then it was a game of flip-flop, with Northview recovering a Neal fumble. Then Neal recovered a Northview fumble.On a Neal drive, a NHS face mask penalty for 15 yards allowed Neal to gain a good scoring position. A touchdown with 6:46 to go in the third followed by two point conversion put Neal ahead 8-0.
NHS answered with a good drive , but Neal intercepted a pass. Neal scored again with 3:05 remaining in the game , making the score 16-0. A Chiefs’ pass was intercepted once more with just 1:54 on the clock, allowing the final Neal TD for the 22-0 final.

EWMS Eagles Beat Pollard-McCall

The Ernest Ward Middle School Eagles beat Pollard-McCall on the volleyball court in two matches Monday afternoon in Walnut Hill.

Northview To Hold First-Ever Homecoming Parade
September 21, 2009
Northview High School will hold its first annual homecoming parade this year on October 2. The school, founded in 1996, has never had a homecoming parade outside the school campus.
The homecoming parade will leave Bratt Elementary School at 12:30 on Friday, October 2 and proceed east on Highway 4 to Northview High. The school is currently seeking entries for the parade. There is no charge to enter, but all entries must be approved by the sponsoring Northview DCT class.
Units already entered in the parade include the Tribal Beat band, Northview cheerleaders, NHS ROTC, Ernest Ward Middle School cheerleaders, Poarch Fire Department and Princess Danielle Martin, NHS Mascot Raylin Spence and floats from the senior, junior, sophomore and freshmen classes.
Everyone is encouraged to support the Chiefs and line the route for this first annual Northview High School homecoming parade.

The Leroy High Bears, the top ranked team in Alabama 2A football, beat the Flomaton Hurricanes Friday night 27-21 in Flomaton. ‘
A 73-yard kickoff return from Neino Robinson put the Canes on the board in the first. Jacob Newton had an 11-yard TD pass as the Hurricanes trailed the Bears 14-13 at the half.
Leroy added a TD and a good kick to take a 21-13 lead. Flomaton tied the game with a six yard run from Anthony Odom and a two-point pass from Newton to Austin Patterson. The Bears block a late game field goal attempt from the Hurricanes to send the game into overtime.
The Bears scored on a 10-yard run on the first play of overtime to take the game 27-21.
The Hurricanes (2-2, 1-2) will be at home against Central-Hayneville next Friday night.
