AirHogs Beat Pelicans 9-5
June 25, 2010
The Grand Prairie AirHogs (20-19) struck in the latter half of the game in a big way and held off the Pelicans (16-23) 9-5 Thursday night.
The AirHogs got on the board first in the top of the third inning with an RBI single to left from Chad Gabriel to bring in Ben Petralli to give Grand Prairie a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth inning, Greg Porter hit a three run homerun with two outs and he drove the ball the other way to left center and over the wall to give the AirHogs a 4-0 lead.
Grand Prairie added five runs in the sixth inning off reliever Tyler Wilson to extend the lead to 9-0. It was a whacky inning that consisted of RBI hits from Joe Spiers, Aaron Garza, and Robert Perry. It was Spiers stealing home in the inning that really shocked the Pelicans and crowd.
Pensacola got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning with John Alonso hitting a sacrifice fly for an RBI and getting back to back RBI hits from Marcos Rodriguez and Chase Porch to cut the deficit to six at 9-3.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, John Alonso ripped a two out two run double down the right field line scoring Antoin Gray and Javier Brito to cut the deficit to four at 9-5.
Luke Prihoda (3-3) gets the win as he goes six solid innings giving up three runs off seven hits.
Austin Quinn (1-1) takes the loss as he gives up four runs off seven hits.
