FHSAA Moves Forward With Rural School Division To Include Northview, Jay

The Florida High School Athletic Association’s new Rural School Division moved a step closer to reality this week, with the group’s board of directors voting to continue the classification process.
Locally, both Northview and Jay high schools have expressed interest in taking part in the new classification.
Across the state, 44 schools have indicated interest in participating in the new division in girls and boys basketball, baseball and softball, with 34 also interested in football and 38 in girls volleyball. The classification policy for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 school years will be brought to the Board for a vote in November.
“The Board unanimously approved moving forward with the concept, which benefits a number of our member schools without detriment to any others,” said Executive Director Roger Dearing. “This is a win-win situation for everyone.”
The invitation deadline for the new classification was September 15 for schools with students populations under 600 and located in areas designate rural by the Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development.
Schools in the rural division would compete within their own division and have their own playoff series for boys and girls basketball, baseball, football, softball and girls volleyball, and boys and girls soccer.

Middle School Football: Ernest Ward Beats Escambia Academy 14-8

The Ernest Ward Middle School Eagles beat the Cougars of Escambia Academy 14-8 Tuesday evening in Canoe, Alabama.
The Eagles — the only middle school football team in Escambia County, Florida — will host Uriah on October 5 at 6 p.m. in Walnut Hill. Ernest Ward will be off October 12. EWMS will return to action at home on October 18 with another game against Escambia Academy.

Jay’s JV Royals Hand Flomaton Their First Loss Of The Season 36-30

The Jay Royals beat the Flomaton Hurricanes Tuesday night in hard fought junior varsity game. Jay scored the final tie-breaking touchdown with 46.5 seconds to go in the game and held off a final Hurricane drive for the win. Tate, Northview, Jay Take Top Three Spots In Cross Country Meet

The Tate Aggies finished first among the boy’s cross country teams in a Tuesday meet hosted by Jay High School, followed Northview in second and Jay in third.
Eighth grader Micah Kemp took the top spot among boys, finishing with a personal best time of 17:59. Josh Scott of Northview finished second with a time of 19:16, and Thomas Simmons of Tate came in third at 20:48.

JV Football: Northview Beats Escambia County 24-20

The junior varsity Northview Chiefs beat the Escambia County (Atmore) Blue Devils Monday night, 24-20.
The Chiefs were first on the board with a touchdown run from sophomore LaMikal Banks. The Chiefs went for the two point conversion, with Kevin Vaughan finding Dalton Daniel with a pass into the end end zone. With 2:03 to go in the quarter, the Chiefs were up 8-0.

The Blue Devils tied the game 8-8 with 6:43 on the clock in the second. The Chiefs answered with a touchdown run from Dy’shun White with 2:27 in the half . Vaughan was in for the two point conversion, and the Chiefs were back on top 16-8.
Escambia County scored again with 1:48 in the second with a 46-yard touchdown pass. A good two point conversion was called back on a holding flag. The Blue Devils’ second attempt at two failed with the quarterback taken down in the backfield by Daulton Tullis and a host of Chiefs. At halftime, Northview was up 16-14.
After a scoreless third quarter, sophomore White had an 11-yard touchdown run. Vaughan was successful on the two point conversion, and the Chiefs were on top 24-14 with 6:38 to go in the ballgame.
But Escambia County was not done, scoring again with a 65-yard touchdown and a good two-pointer, cutting Northview’s lead to 24-20.
With seconds on the clock, the Blue Devils unsuccessfully tried several a long-distance passes on their last possession.
The junior varsity Northview Chiefs will be at home October 7 at 6 p.m. against the Baker Gators.

Molino Teen Wins Alabama State Kart Racing Title

Jarrett Parker of Molino won another kart racing Alabama Maxxis Series State Title this past weekend in Talladega.
Jarrett raced as an adult in the Alabama Maxxis series at Talladega Raceway Park with some of the most experienced senior racers in the southeast.
Parker, a sophomore at Northview High School, raced against 35 other senior drivers throughout the series in Stock Medium at the Alabama Maxxis Series. Going into the last race, Parker was leading the points chase but needed another strong finish to secure that title. Parker qualified in the fifth spot and won the race on his way to another Alabama State Title. He also won the state title in 2009 as a junior racer.
“I thank the Lord for everything. I have had a great year of racing so far. A big thank you to my dad as he has been with me every step of the way,” Parker said. “I also want to thank Dee Paschal, Mark Bowers with MB Motorsports, Todd Miller Racing Engines, and Phantom Racing Chassis.”
Parker was after another state title in Stock Heavy hoping for another win. He was leading the chase going into this weekends race. Parker qualified in second and finished third, narrowly missing the points title. Parker raced against 35 other senior racers throughout the year having all top five finishes, earning second place in Stock Heavy points chase.
Other races Parker competed in this weekend were Stock Lite where he qualified fifth and finished third and the big race for the night was Senior Pro, with Parker qualifying on the pole and winning the big race.
Parker has won a total of three state titles for 2010, two in Mississippi and one in Alabama. Parker has three national events to finish out the 2010 season.
Jarrett Parker is the son of Scott and Tammy Parker of Molino.
“The Lord blessed our karting team in many ways by putting us with the right people and the right circumstances to allow Jarrett to excel to his fullest potential. I am very proud of his hard work and dedication,” Scott Parker said.

Vote For Northview’s La’Mikal Kyles For TV 3 Play Of The Week

Northview’s La’Mikal Kyles is a finalist for WEAR 3’s Prep Football Final Play of the Week.
Bozeman thought they were on the move with about nine minutes to go in the half, but Kyles and company had other plans. The sophomore running back swiped the ball from a surprised Bucks player on a fumble, running it 32 yards for another NHS touchdown. The play put the Chiefs up 21-0 with 8:43 to go before halftime on their way to a 48-14 win.

Northview Schedules Homecoming Parade
September 27, 2010
The second annual Northview High School Homecoming Parade has been scheduled for Friday, October 8 at 1 p.m.
The parade, sponsored by the NHS DCT class, will travel from Bratt Elementary School to Northview, with a pep rally to follow.
Entries are being accepted now; there is no cost to enter. Contact Tommy Weaver at (850) 327-6681 ext. 254 to participate. The DCT class will also be selling homecoming t-shirts and spirit items.
The Northview Chief’s homecoming game will kickoff at 7 p.m. on October 8 against Bonifay.

Northview Chiefs 3-0 After Beating Bozeman (With Photo Gallery)

The Northview Chiefs destroyed the Bozeman Bucks 48-14 in Bratt Friday night.
The Chiefs (3-0, 2-0) pounded away at the Bucks with over 330 yards on the ground and five players into the end zone for touchdowns.
“It was the most complete game that we’ve played this year. I challenged them to really finish a ballgame. During our first two games, we played well at times, but it was not consistent through the course of the game,” Northview Head Coach Sid Wheatley said. “I thought from the opening bell to the end, we played well tonight. I was pleased with that.”

The Chief’s first touchdown of the game came from sophomore La’Mikal Kyles (pictured left) to put the Chiefs on the board with 3:06 to go in the first quarter with a 38-yard touchdown run. A good kick, at the Chiefs were up 7-0 early in their home opener.
Less than two minutes into the second, quarterback Brandon Sheets was in from 23-yards out as the Chiefs expanded their lead to 14-0.

With another good kick, the Chiefs were up 21-0 with 8:43 to go before halftime.
That lead jumped to 28-0 after Sheets hit Jake Clayton with a 25-yard pass with 4:23 to go in the second.
Roderick Woods had a five-yard TD run with 8:55 on the clock in the third. The Bucks answered with their first touchdown of two with 4:03 in the third. Dustin Yuhasz was in for a touchdown from a full 80 yards out with 3:00 to go in the game as the Chiefs wrapped up a win over the Bozeman Bucks 48-0.
Yuhasz had a half dozen carries for 140 yards, while Mitchell had 80 yards for the Chiefs. Sheets had three carries for 24 yards and was 2 of 3 in the air for 38 yards.
Dustin Yuhasz was in for another touchdown with 26.1 seconds go to before the bands took to the field, but his 54-yard TD was called back on a holding flag. On the next down, Montaio Mitchell, a junior, followed with a 54-yard touchdown run of his own to put the Chiefs up 34-0 after a good Lance Bushaw kick.
The Chiefs will rack up some more frequent traveler miles next week as they head to Baker in another District game.
“I know they are going to throw the ball around a little bit,” Wheatley said of the Baker Gators. “It’s going to be a challenger. We’ve got to get better and be ready to play next Friday. Every Friday can be tough, so we are going to be ready.”
