Molino 16U Jags Advance To Tourney Finals

The Molino 16U Jags beat the Pace Patriots Wednesday night 12-10.
With the win, Molino advances to play Tiger Point Friday night at 7:30 in the Gulf Coast Girls Softball Association Midseason Tournament at Bellview.

District Softball: Northview Beats Baker; Jay Over Ponce DL

The Northview Chiefs and the Jay Royals both advanced in the District 1-2A softball tournament Tuesday in Freeport. Northview will visit Jay Thursday at 6 p.m. for the district championship.

The Lady Chiefs game with the Baker Gators was called after five innings under the 10-run mercy rule. In the 10-0 win, sophomore pitcher Misty Doran allowed just three hits while striking out five for the Chiefs (14-9).
Shawna Montgomery had a third inning solo home run for the Chiefs and a two-run double in the fourth. Miranda Burkett added a two-run single in third and two-run doubles in the fourth. Doran was 2-3 with a double and RBI, and Sarah Killam was 2-2 with a double and RBI.
Jay 9 Ponce de Leon 3
The Jay Royals (14-7) beat Ponce de Leon Tuesday in Freeport to advance in the District 1-2A softball tournament. Becca Calloway went 2-2 with a solo homer in the third and a three-run homer in the fourth for the Lady Royals. Tessa Hendricks was 2-4 with two runs, two RBI and a double. Camille Driver was 3-4 with a run and RBI, Alicia Ashworth was 2-3 with a run and RBI, Ashley Stokes was 2-4 with a double and Olivia Wright was 2-3 with two runs and a double.

The Molino 16U Jags are in the top four of the ongoing Midseason Tournament at Bellview Park. The girls will be in action Wednesday night to determine if they make the championship game Friday night.

Neal Beats Northview; Flomaton Over Jay – Newton Gets Single, Double, Triple & Homer

The Jay High School Royals picked up a win Monday over the Flomaton Hurricanes, while the Northview Chiefs were dealt a loss.

W.S. Neal defeated the Northview Chiefs 10-2 Monday in Bratt. The Chiefs will wrap up their regular season as they host West Florida Thursday at 6:00. Playoffs begin Monday, April 25 in Jay.
The Flomaton Hurricanes defeated the Jay Royals 13-0 Monday afternoon in Jay. Jacob Newton was 4-4 with a single, a double, a triple and a homer for the Hurricanes — believed to be a first in the school’s history during a single game.
The Royals will be on the road with a 6 p.m. Tuesday game at Gulf Breeze.

The new cheerleaders for 2011-2012 have been named at Jay High School.

Local Girls Place In Miss Majorette Of Alabama Competition

Colbi Kendall and Scarlet Carter of Flomaton won first place awards in the Miss Majorette of Alabama Baton Twirling Competition this weekend in Wetumpka.
Carter competed for the first time in the one baton solo division and brought home first place in the one baton 13-15 year old novice division. Kendall competed in the beginner level for the 10-12 year olds and brought home first in one baton solo, first in show twirl and third in two baton.
Last month, Kendall competed in the open division of the Florida State Competition in Winter Haven and won first in two baton, third in show twirl and fifth in one baton solo.
Chiefs Beat The Royals For Top Spot In District

The Northview Chiefs beat the Jay Royals 4-3 Friday afternoon in Jay to claim the top seed in the upcoming District 1-2A baseball tournament.
The Chiefs are 12-7 on the season, 7-2 in the district, while the Royals are 12-7, 6-3 for the second seed in District 1-2A.
Northview was led at the plate by Josh Scott. He was 2 for 3, with a double, and 2 RBI’s, including the game winner in the bottom of the 6th to score Kevin Vaughan with the winning run. Kevin Vaughan was 2 for 3 with a run scored, and an RBI. Tyler Brooks was 1 for 3 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI. Dabney Langhorne was 1 for 3 with a run scored for the Chiefs, as well.
Colton Sims was the winning pitcher for Northview running his record to 7-3 on the season. He pitched 7 innings, gave up 3 runs on 5 hits. He walked one and struck out one.
Northview improved it’s district record to 8-2 on the season. The Chiefs return to action Monday, April 18, for Senior Night beginning at 6 p.m. vs WS Neal.
The district tournament begins Monday, April 25 in Jay and continues April 26 with the championship game set for Thursday, April 28.
Northview To Hold Beginners Volleyball Clinic Next Week

Northview High School will host a Volleyball Junior/Beginners Clinic next week for new players wishing to learn the basics of the game.
Participants must be in at least the sixth grade. High school participants are also welcome if they are new to volleyball. Different skill level groups will be formed during the clinic. Participants will work with current and former Northview players and coaches and learn to improve their individual and team skills. Sessions will begin at 4 p.m. each day April 19-21.

The junior varsity Northview Chiefs ended their season Thursday with a win over the Flomaton Hurricanes. Northview beat the ‘Canes 9-5 to end their season at 14-3.
