JV Football: West Florida Over Northview (With Gallery)

The JV West Florida Jaguars got past Northview 22-20 Thursday evening in Bratt.

The JV Chiefs will end their season next Monday evening at 6:30 against Escambia County High School of Atmore.

Undefeated: Ernest Ward Beats Summerdale (With Photo Gallery)

The Ernest Ward Middle School Eagles continued their perfect season with a 30-0 win over Summerdale (Ala.) Thursday night in Walnut Hill. The Eagles (6-0) will wrap up their season next Thursday night at 6:00 at Elberta, Ala.

Volleyball: Gators Defeat Chiefs (With Gallery)

October 12, 2012

Baker’s Lady Gators defeated the Northview Chiefs in varsity and junior varsity volleyball action Thursday in Bratt.

In junior varsity action, E’Layzha Bates had five aces and McKenzie Nasser had four aces and one kill for the JV Lady Chiefs as Baker downed Northview 25-11, 22-25, 15-17.

In varsity play, it was Baker over Northview in four, 8-25, 26-24, 20-25, 14-17. Lily Townson had one kill and 17 assists for the Lady Chiefs. Misty Doran had one ace, seven kills and four blocks, and Morgan Payne added 15 kills, one block an an assist for Northview.

The Lady Chiefs will be at Tate next Tuesday with junior varsity playing their final game of the season at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity playing  at 5:30 p.m.  Northview’s varsity will wrap up the regular season on Thursday, October 18 with Senior Night beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Volleyball: Chiefs Down Central

October 10, 2012

The Northview Lady Chiefs defeated Central High in varsity and junior varsity volleyball Tuesday.

The Northview varsity beat Central in five, 23-25, 28-26, 25-19, 14-25, 15-11. Danielle Steadham had one ace, four kills and five digs for the Lady Chiefs, and Misty Doran added one ace, 10 kills and seven blocks.

In JV action, Northview downed Central 25-19, 19-25, 15-12. Hope Coggins had one ace and seven assists, and Kyndall Hall had four kills and five assists.

On Thursday, Northview will host the Baker Gators. The junior varsity takes the court at 4:30 followed by the varsity at 5:30. Thursday was scheduled to be Senior Night, but that event has been postponed until October 18.

Week Six: Prep Football Standings

October 10, 2012

Leaders are beginning to emerge, but district titles are not yet set in local high school football action.

In District 1-6A, Pace remains undefeated, while Milton and Escambia are 2-1.  The Patriots and the Gators will meet this Friday night at Escambia.

West Florida is unbeaten in District 1-5A after handing Gulf Breeze their first district loss last Friday night.

The Northview Chiefs and the Baker Gators are 1-0 in District 1-1A, while Freeport and Jay each have a district loss.

Northview Chiefs Name New Head Baseball Coach

October 8, 2012

Northview High School has named a new head baseball coach for the upcoming season.

Martin “Marty” Lister will bring an extensive baseball background to the field for the Chiefs, replacing Sid Wheatley who stepped down from the baseball program.

Lister was drafted in the seventh round by the Cincinnati Reds in the 1992 MLB June Amateur Draft from Jefferson Davis Community College in Brewton. He has pitched for the Cincinnati Reds, Houston Astros and Arizona Diamondbacks organizations.

Lister taught at Escambia High School in Pensacola for five years before coming to Northview to teach drafting and construction technology. He coached varsity baseball for four years at Escambia, along with freshmen football, running back coach for varsity football and boys weightlifting. He also was an assistant baseball and pitching coach at Pensacola State College.

Results And Photos: Third Annual Chief Challenge 5K Run/Walk

Over 100 runners and walkers took part in the third annual Chief Challenge 5K Saturday morning at Northview High School.

The overall fastest male for the second straight year was Northview’s Isaac McGahan with a time of 19:44. The fastest overall female runner was middle school student Savanna Brown from Jay at 23:39. There were 107 finishers in Saturday’s event, which was sponsored by Atmore Pepsi, Lee Veterinary Clinic, EREC, Living Water Fire Protection, Century Care Center, House of Prayer, Scott’s Pharmacy and Northescambia.com.
