Strength Team Delivers Strong Message

With feats like ripping a phone book in half,, crushing  concrete and bending steel, the Strength Team brought their strong inspirational messages to Highland Baptist Church and Molino Park Elementary School Wednesday.

At Molino Park, the Strength Team delivered a motivational message, addressing how students can work hard toward obtaining their goals and dreams through education and hard work.

The leader and founder of The Strength Team, Mike Hagen, has dedicated over 20 years of his life to this kind of work. He has spoken to hundreds of thousands of people and performed at thousands of school and church assemblies. He has been featured on CNN, ESPN, and the popular television show “Walker Texas Ranger” with Chuck Norris.

District 1-1A Volleyball Tourney Set With Jay, Northview

The District 1-1A volleyball tournament schedule and seedings have been set following a blind drawing between Jay, Central and Northview.

Seedings are as follows:

  1. Baker
  2. Jay
  3. Northview
  4. Central
  5. Laurel Hill

Next week, the district tournament will open at Central High School with Central against Laurel Hill at 4 p.m. The winner will advance to play number one seed Baker Tuesday at 6 p.m. Also on Tuesday, Northview will play Jay at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Tuesday’s winners will advance to the district championship.

Locker Room Renovation Planned For Tate, Escambia, West Florida

Locker rooms at Tate, West Florida and Escambia High School will be renovated.

The Escambia County School Board is set to approve architectural service to design the renovations at a meeting later this month.

Architectural fees for Escambia and West Florida are expected to be $61,513 with a total construction budget of $527,045. At Tate High, architectural fees will total $65,235 with a construction budget of $737,866.

The architectural design will be provided by Townes + Architects in Pensacola. The projects will be funded with half cent sales tax monies.

JV Football: Escambia Academy Downs Northview

2012-2013 Florida Hunting Seasons Begin

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission has announced 2012-2013 hunting season dates.

The statewide hunting season for gray squirrel on private lands has been extended.  From now on, it will open the second Saturday in October and close the first Sunday in March. This season, the dates will be October 13 – March 3.

The chart below shows 2012-2013 hunting season dates for “Zone D”, which includes all of Escambia and Santa Rosa counties, except for wildlife management areas. For complete information, including bag limits, see the FWC website.

Homecoming Win: ECHS Beats Monroe County

The Escambia County Blue Devils defeated Monroe County 36-18 Friday night in Atmore.

The JV West Florida Jaguars got past Northview 22-20 Thursday evening in Bratt.

The JV Chiefs will end their season next Monday evening at 6:30 against Escambia County High School of Atmore.

Undefeated: Ernest Ward Beats Summerdale (With Photo Gallery)

The Ernest Ward Middle School Eagles continued their perfect season with a 30-0 win over Summerdale (Ala.) Thursday night in Walnut Hill. The Eagles (6-0) will wrap up their season next Thursday night at 6:00 at Elberta, Ala.

Volleyball: Gators Defeat Chiefs (With Gallery)

Baker’s Lady Gators defeated the Northview Chiefs in varsity and junior varsity volleyball action Thursday in Bratt.

In junior varsity action, E’Layzha Bates had five aces and McKenzie Nasser had four aces and one kill for the JV Lady Chiefs as Baker downed Northview 25-11, 22-25, 15-17.

In varsity play, it was Baker over Northview in four, 8-25, 26-24, 20-25, 14-17. Lily Townson had one kill and 17 assists for the Lady Chiefs. Misty Doran had one ace, seven kills and four blocks, and Morgan Payne added 15 kills, one block an an assist for Northview.

The Lady Chiefs will be at Tate next Tuesday with junior varsity playing their final game of the season at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity playing  at 5:30 p.m.  Northview’s varsity will wrap up the regular season on Thursday, October 18 with Senior Night beginning at 5:30 p.m.
