Aggie Classic Continues (With Monday Scores)

Monday was the first day of action in the Aggie Classic, a 24-team tournament hosted by the Tate Aggies.

Tickets for each game are $6 for adults and students and will be available at the gate at each location. Games will be played at all the five local fields Tuesday and Wednesday. The championship games on Thursday at 4  and 7 p.m. will be played at the University of West Florida.

Escambia Westgate Holding Run, Walk, Wheel 5K On April 5

Escambia Westgate School will host their 2nd Annual Run, Walk, Wheel 5K Fun Run on April 5 at 9 a.m. at the school.

Escambia Westgate School is seeking to raise funds to support the school’s needs, including the goal of building a fully adaptive gymnasium to be used by all of Westgate’s students with severe cognitive and/or physical disabilities.  Registration forms are available on the school’s website. To register, please print a form and mail it along with your check to the school.

Northview Bites The Bulldogs

The Northview Chiefs took two from Freeport Friday in Bratt. In varsity action, Northview beat Freeport 11-1, and the junior varsity Chiefs beat the Bulldogs 13-6.

The junior varsity Chiefs will travel to Pensacola High for a 2 p.m. game next Tuesday, and the varsity will take on PHS at 4:00.

Northview, Jay Compete In Track Meet (With Photo Gallery)

The Northview Chiefs and Jay Royals competed in a track meet Thursday at Jay High School against Baker, Central, Holmes County and J.U. Blacksher of Uriah, AL.

Northview Beats Holmes County

The varsity Northview Chiefs beat Holmes County in Bonifay 7-3 Thursday night. The junior varsity Chiefs downed Holmes County 11-3. The  junior varsity Chiefs will play Freeport at 4:00 Friday afternoon, while the varsity will take the field at 6:00 in a district game.

Log-A-Load Bass Tourney To Benefit Children’s Hospital

The 18th Annual Charity Log A Load for Kids Bass Tournament and Live Auction will be held Saturday, April 12 at Live Oak Landing in Stockton, Ala.

Well over $10,000 in guaranteed prize money will be awarded, including a $3,000 first place prize. The tournament and events will raise funds for Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital. Log-A-Load is sponsored by the Florida Forestry Association and the Florida Loggers Council.

Jay Upends Northview’s Varsity; Northview’s JV Downs Jay

The Northview Chiefs and the Jay Royals split a couple of games Monday in Bratt.

The junior varsity Chiefs defeated the JV Royals 7-2, while the varsity Chiefs lost to Jay 2-1.

In varsity action, Aaron McDonald was 1-2, Branon Freeman was 1-3 and RJ Pritchett was 1-3 with a double and an RBI for Northview. For Jay, Dalton Edwards was 3-3 with 2 RBIs, A.J. Nash was 1-3 and Steven Archer 1-3. Dalton Edwards pitched seven for the Jay win, allowing one run, four hits, one error and striking out 10. Brannon Freeman took the loss for the Chiefs, pitching five while allowing two runs an five hits.

Northview will travel to Holmes County Tuesday with the JV playing at 4:00 and the varsity at 6:00. The varsity Jay Royals will host T.R. Miller at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Softball Wins For Tate, Northview

The Tate Lady Aggies (10-1 , 5-0) continued their winning ways Monday with an 11-1 win over Fort Walton Beach. Tori Perkins hit a home run for the Lady Aggies. Tate Hitters:  Casey McCrackin 2-3, R, 2 RBIs, 2 2B; Kaylen Rowell 1-2, 2B; Rachel Dunsford 2-4, R, 2B;  Tori Perkins 1-3, R, 3 RBIs, HR; Bridget Dall 1-3, 2 R, RBI, 2B; Brooke Howe 1-3, R, 4 RBIs, 2B.

The Aggies will host Crestview Thursday at 6:30.

The Northview High School Chief’s varsity softball team defeated Freeport Monday, 9-1.  A junior varsity game was scheduled, but Freeport does not currently have enough JV players for a team due to injuries.

Chiefs Fall To Chipley

The Northview Chiefs lost two to the Chipley Tigers Friday night.  Chipley’s junior varsity topped Northview 9-4, and Chipley beat Northview’s varsity 7-2. Work Set To Begin On New Weight Training Facility At Northview High

Work is set to begin soon on a new weight training facility for Northview High School.

The $625,510  bid was awarded  to R.D. Ward Construction Company, the lowest of nine bidders. Other bids ranged from $669,400 to $836,300.

The Escambia County School Board approved the weight training facility back at their January 22, 2013, meeting, letting a $69,913 contract with DAG Architects in Pensacola for architectural and engineering services.

The new building will be about 3,500 square feet. The building will include one weight room, coaches’ offices, storage and accompanying restrooms. The construction budget will be funded with local option sales tax monies.

The new weight training facility will be constructed near the main building where outdoor basketball courts are currently located. There is no timetable in place for the completion of the project.
