Results, Photos: FCA & Justin Gatlin Panhandle Championships

About two dozen high school track and field teams competed Saturday in the FCA & Justin Gatlin Panhandle Championships at Washington High School.
For the women, Pine Forest High School finished first, followed by Niceville, Bay, Fort Walton Beach and Spanish Fort. Among North Escambia area teams, West Florida High finished eighth, followed by Tate at 16th and Northview at 21st.
For the men, Fort Walton Beach finished first, followed by West Florida, Pine Forest, Pensacola and Washington, Among other North Escambia schools, Tate was 11th, and Northview was 18th.
With fewer athletes competing, and no entries in some events, smaller schools like Northview are at a disadvantage when paired against the Panhandle’s largest schools. Northview’s Cameron Newsome (pictured top) placed fourth overall in the Men’s High Jump at 6-feet, 2-inches.

Northview Defeats Jay

The Northview Chiefs defeated the Jay Royals Saturday afternoon, 9-2.
Aaron McDonald 1-1, R, RBI; Brannon Freeman 1-3, 2R; RJ Prichett 1-4, 2B, R; Thomas Moore 2-4, R, 2 RBIs; Brett Weeks 1-3, R; Daulton Tullis 2-4, RBI, R. Winning pitcher was Daulton Tullis, pitching 5 1/3 innings, allowing 4 hits, one earning run, two walks and 9 strike outs.
The Chiefs (10-4,5-3) hosts T.R. Miller on Tuesday.
Rain Forces Tate, Northview Softball And Baseball Cancellations

Tonight’s Tate Lady Aggies “Strike Out Cancer” game versus Navarre High School has been rescheduled for Monday at 6:30 p.m. due to weather.
Northview vs. Jay softball has been canceled for today. The games have been rescheduled for Monday, JV at 4:00 and varsity at 6:00. Northview vs. Chipley will be play varsity only on Friday, April 4 at 4:00.
Northview vs. Jay baseball has been canceled for today, both JV and varsity. The varsity has been rescheduled for Saturday at 2:00 at Jay.
Tate’s ninth grade baseball game for today has been canceled and has not yet been rescheduled.
Four Northview Lifters Qualify For Regionals

Four Northview athletes qualified to complete at the regional boy’s weightlifting meeting April 9 in Panama City.
Advancing to the regionals were:
- Everette Garvey (JR) in the 119-lb. class. Everette had a 150-lb. bench press and a 135-lb. clean and jerk for a total of 285-lbs., which earned him a first place finish in the weight class.
- Dezmine Moorer (SO) in the 154-lb. class. Dezmine had a 215-lb. bench press and a 185-lb. clean and jerk for a total of 400-lbs., which earned him a second place finish in the weight class.
- Jacob Weaver (FR) in the 199-lb. class. Jacob had a 175-lb. bench press and a 165-lb. clean and jerk for a total of 340-lbs., which earned him a third place finish in the weight class.
- Austin Whitehead (SO) in the HVY class. Austin had a 250-lb. bench press ans a 225-lb. clean and jerk for a total of 475-lbs., which earned him a third place finish in the weight class.
Northview’s top lifter, senior Luke McDaniel who lifts in the 219-lb. class, sustained an injury during the meet and was not able to finish. McDaniel had won each of his previous meets this season.
The regional meet will be held April 9 at Arnold High School with 17 schools competing.
West Florida Lady Jags Win Daytona Beach Grand Slam

The West Florida Lady Jags won the Third Annual Daytona Beach Slam recently. The Lady Jags went 4-0 in the tournament and remain undefeated on the season. Northview Stadium Now Officially The ‘Tommy Weaver Memorial Stadium’

After an emotional outpouring from those that knew “Papa Weave” best, the Escambia County School Board voted Tuesday evening to name the stadium at Northview High School as the “Tommy Weaver Memorial Stadium”.
Tommy Weaver was a longtime DCT and Ag instructor and assistant coach who passed away suddenly at the age of 61 in March 2012. The Chiefs’ entire 2012 state championship football season was dedicated to Weaver.
“We love you Papa Weave, and you are forever in our hearts” Northview FFA 2nd Vice President Haylee Weaver tearfully said before the school board after encouraging their vote.
“He was definitely a colleague of mine , but more importantly he was a friend of mine,” Northview head football coach Sid Wheatley said. “It’s an honor for both myself and my team to be able to play in Tommy Weaver Memorial Stadium.”
Ernest Ward Middle School Principal Nancy Perry spoke on behalf of Tommy Weaver’s son, Toby. “Thank you for doing this for his daddy, and it makes him real….,” Perry said.
“Proud,” Toby Weaver leaned into the microphone and said.

Chiefs Beat Holmes County

The Northview Chiefs beat the Holmes County Blue Devils Tuesday 13-10.
The Chiefs will travel to Jay Friday, with junior varsity playing at 4:00 and the varsity at 6:00.

Century Donates $1,200 To Little League For New Concession Stand
March 25, 2014
The Town of Century has donated $1,200 to Century Little League for a portable concession stand.
The league was in need of a concession stand that could be moved closer to outlying fields on game days. The town council voted to up their usual $1,000 per year donation to $1,200 to cover the cost.
Bondurant Lumber in Century will provide the materials and building the concession stand.
NHS Downs Randolph; JV Jags Over Chiefs

The varsity Northview Chiefs defeated Randolph School Monday night 3-2, while the JV Chiefs fell to West Florida 2-1.
The Chiefs will host Holmes County in a varsity district game at 6:00 Tuesday. The junior varsity game has been canceled.

Northview At Escambia Academy Softball Canceled

Tuesday’s scheduled Northview Chiefs at Escambia Academy softball game in Poarch, AL, has been canceled by EA.
The Lady Chiefs will host Jay on Friday, with junior varsity playing at 4:00 and the varsity taking the field at 6:00 in Bratt.
